Cavs-Bulls trade....

I thought they would at least be able to get something decent out of this.. I guess they really wanted draft picks.. good trade for both sides.

Finally the Bulls have decided to tank. Feel bad for Thibs and Rose. But they will never be able to win a championship this year. Deng is expendable with Butler getting some spotlight last playoff as well as having picked Snell in this year's draft. Those guys may not be damn as good as Deng now, but those young players can, especially Butler will take Deng's spot.
Chi-town will tank this season. But three draft picks and a lot of money saved can refresh the franchise faster than Sacramento under the Maloofs era.

Fire sale coming in Chicago. GIVE US NOAH

Well I'd say it's highly likely that they will amnesty Boozer if they can't find a trading partner.

I also would expect that Noah plays into their plans for the future since he's still young (28) and they have him under contract for 3 more years.

But if they do want to tank and are willing to trade Noah for draft picks/prospects/expirings here is how I'd go about it.

So given that I want to use IT, DWill, Thornton, JT, & 2019 1st pick to trade for Rondo/Wallace, that doesn't leave a whole lot of assets left to try and get Noah, but here are two trades that could work:

1.) We remove restrictions on our 2014 draft pick so that they get our draft pick for this year. (Maybe throw in some 2nd rounds if we can)
We then send Ben, Jimmer (expiring), Gray (expiring) so they get 2 expiring and a talented rookie. (This can't be done due to Gray's contract till Feb 10th)
We get Noah.

2.) We remove the restrictions on our 2014 draft pick so that they get our draft pick for this year. (Maybe throw in some 2nd rounds if we can)
We send them Jimmer (expiring) and Landry (With the idea that he can provide cheaper scoring than boozer once they amnesty Boozer)
We get Noah.

If we did that we'd be in complete 'Win-Now' mode and would have to fight to make a play-off push. We'd also have to sign some D-League types to get to the minimum.
We'd have to hope that Noah could stay healthy and Rondo would come back and play close to his old self.
But a Rondo/???/Gay/Noah/Cousins starting line-up would be absurd.

Well...I don't plan on winning the lottery and figure that we'll be in the 7-12 range.
I expect to pick a big man with that pick with my current preference being Cauley-Stein, followed by Vonleh.

As long as Ben is here I hope that he puts it all together and is able to use his elite athleticism to become an elite defender while finding his outside shot to space the floor. But there are no guarantees that such will happen.

So if I can go out and grab Rondo, then I would trade my chance at Cauley-Stein as well as the hope that Ben pans out for Noah. Because if Noah can stay healthy, his defense, intensity, and ability to simply battle, especially in the play-offs, would be phenominal next to Cousins.

Cavs just basically down-right murdered the Bulls.
What was them folks in the Windy City thinking bout this bad boy?????

i think it was a win win actually. cavs get their sf. bulls get our first round pick, the rights to swap 2015 first round pick and 2 second rounders (blazers) for a player they thought they cant resign anyways. i wouldnt call that getting murdered. getting 3 picks and a chance to swap picks for a guy that was leaving at the end of the year anyways.

I should also mention that the other way to go about getting Rondo and Noah could go down like this.

1st trade
We trade IT, Landry, Jimmer, and our rights to this year's pick to Bulls for Noah.
The Bulls get their replacement PG in IT in case Rose can't recover as well as getting our 1st round pick this year, and Landry to replace Boozer once they amnesty him.

2nd trade
We trade Ben, DWill, Thornton, JT, 2016 + 2018 1st round picks to Boston for Rondo/Wallace.
By trading all our rights to this year's 1st pick to the bulls, that sets us up to offer multiple 1st round picks to Boston.
We get Rondo.
Boston gets 2 1st round picks, removes Wallace' bad contract, while also getting two young prospects in Ben & Dwill.

If our FA is truly in Win-Now mode and want to surround Cousins with veteran Play-off tested talent that fit what Malone wants to do while also fitting next to Cousins, you couldn't really do better than bringing in Rondo and Noah. So if you have to trade all your young prospects as well as mortgage your future, then you do it. I think the Kings probably have the assets to pull something like this off if that is the direction they wanted to go and both Boston and Chicago are willing to trade Rondo and Noah.

One of those top fit guys. Also: winner.

But Noah is like any other big $$ frontcourt guy for us. Once we take that plunge, we are largely set. As OKC found out, you can't pay 4 guys mega money.

Snazzy. But like I said above. ALL of our money is tied up. You know what? I do it anyway. Easily. But it would 4 guys against the world, and then we could barely field a team. In fact after your trades we physically couldn't. :p We'd have to call up the Bighorns. Like the whole team. Mikki!

heh, yeah we'd be seriously depleted.
In the Rondo deal we'd need to get back either Pressey or Marshon Brooks (Brooks preferable to take over the SG role) so that Boston wouldn't have to cut one of their players. (I've mentioned this in previous threads but didn't in this one, though I should have)
In the Bulls deal we'd need to bring back someone like Erik Murphy (1/2 mil contract), but in my first post regarding this specific idea of going after Rondo & Noah I did mention that we'd probably have to hit up the D-League in order to fill out the roster.

But we'd have Cousins for 4 years, Noah for 3 years, Rondo & Gay for 2 years.
With those starting 4 you should be able to fill out the roster in the next off-season with ring-chasing vet-min guys.
And then it would just depend on the FO if they wanted to really pony-up to pay all 4 guys or not when it came time to re-sign Rondo & Gay. Considering that they just over-paid for the Kings Franchise and we would be moving into the new arena with new contracts for Rondo & Gay I could maybe see them doing it, if they were able to find the right role players to fill out the roster.

Of course it's not my money so I can ignore the Luxury tax penalties. :D

the real hold up from Chicago's POV would be making the Kings so strong that the restriction wouldn't have applied in the first place. Noah is such a perfect fit that he might actually make up the difference between picking fourth and 13th, at least with this year's tanking brigade.

No, I'm all for Noah, but you don't take off all the protection for the pick. That's downright stupid in this draft, regardless of Noah being good fit or not. If you really want him, lower the protection to top 5, though you could still end up regretting it. Take off all the protection and then what happens if you strike gold and get top 3? You've just traded Parker/Wiggins/Randle/Embiid/Exum + Ben for Noah and left yourself no other room for movement. We'd be better, but not challenging. Ludicrous really.

Yeah, the other scary thing about Noah is that he just can't quite seem to stay healthy. So far this year he's only missed one game, but he's got seasons missing 16, 18, and 34 games to various injuries and he's only 28. It's a scary prospect to commit that kind of money to someone who is a constant injury risk.

Don't see the Bulls moving Noah at all. This is just a "temporary tank" for them, a lost season with their superstar out (a la San Antonio and Robinson?). No reason to pay the luxury tax this season for the privilege of a first round exit, especially for a guy who sounds like he was likely to walk this summer anyway. Boozer is likely on his way out, too, but they can move forward with Rose/Butler/Mirotic/Gibson/Noah/Snell and this year's pick and be right back in the thick of things in the East both next year and for the future.

Absolutely true if the only pick-up is Noah.

I'd only go after Noah if I had Rondo in hand as well.

Rondo would be the primary pick-up. And then if Chicago were interested in trading Noah (doubtful in my opinion, but I can play 'what-if') then at that point you remove the restrictions because with Rondo/Noah/Gay/Cousins in the starting line-up you are probably looking at 12-14 lottery spot or 8th seed in the play-offs.

With that in mind, if you could get Boston to bite for 2 future 1st round picks, you would do the deal with Chicago first to take care of the Cleveland issue in order to offer Boston those 2 future 1st round picks. Of course, if Chicago doesn't want to deal Noah then you go back to one of the other talent/asset dumps to secure Rondo.
