Caron Butler Signs Two year deal with Kings!

Look at this. For what we offered Matthews we got:

Belineli
Koufos
Butler
Rondo
Cassipi
Total: $68 million

What a favor he did us. I'd say we have a formidable team. Winning will cure all so if the Kings can play some .500 ball I think Karl and Cousins can close the wounds.

That's not entirely true. We could have signed Anderson, Butler, & Casspi even after signing Matthews and the trade we made gave us more cap space than what Matthews would have cost.

After the Philly trade, we had $25.1 mil in cap space. Matthews would have cost around $16 mil, That's 9 mil of cap space you're basically saying we got because we didn't sign Matthews. That's not right. We could have easily grabbed both Matthews and Rondo (which was rumored at the time) and went on to sign Anderson, Butler, & Casspi.

There's many ways you can organize this, but instead of Matthews, we signed:

Rondo
Koufos

OR

Rondo
Belinelli

OR

Koufos
Belinelli
Josh Smith (if we sign him)

We could have easily ended up with Matthews and Koufos this year and had a team like this:

PG - Collison/Miller (vet min)/McCallum/Stockton
SG - Matthews/McLemore/Anderson (vet min)
SF - Gay/Casspi (room exception)/Butler (vet min)
PF - Cousins/Cauley-Stein/Evans (vet min)/Moreland
C - Koufos/Aldrich (vet min)

That team is not better than what we have now given Matthews' injury worries and what salary he would have made.

That's coming from someone who was disappointed not to get Matthews. Objectivity is key, and no, I'm not being biased.

I think I'll not look back and, rather, sit here and bask in the glow of what we do have. Great round up of talent. Vlade and Karl are hitting all the high notes. Welcome, Caron Butler. You are long of tooth but I still hit over 400 half court shots at twice your age.

Did I ever say it was better?

Great vet signing. Great locker room presence.

Welcome tough juice. I'll save the Mountain Dew for the playoffs

as with belinelli and koufos, this is another nice under-the-radar signing that adds important depth to a team that had none to speak of in the last couple of seasons. if butler can give the kings a solid 10-15 mpg while hitting 3's at his standard clip, then it's a pretty great move...

Don't really know what he has left in the tank but for 3 million, his presence and toughness ought to have some kind of value in the locker room.

We need to send Cousins, Gay, and Vlade to his house and lock the door. :P

According to reports, the Clippers have reached an agreement with Cole Aldrich on a two-year minimum salary deal. The second year is a player option.

They don't call him Tough Juice for nothing, I'm glad we got a 3rd SF just in case playing small ball with Rudy/Casspi works.

It never crossed my mind to get a throwback vlade jersey until this past week. He is working hard and making what looks to be good changes. Can't tell without trying. I am sure somebody won't work out as planned but that how you do it. Big changes this year then they get smaller each year.

And what surprises me is that the kings paid the minimum for him. The kings didn't over pay at all. Maybe with the exception of the rondo deal, everyone else that signed with the kings signed a fair contract!

This series of signings does go a long way to show, that a you don't necessarily have to be in a "stable" situation to get quality players. Just need a quality straight forward man in charge. We've got that guy

He played 20 mins a game last year so he isn't some corpse that is just being brought in to help the locker room. He will be able to contribute, although I wouldn't expect him to play more than 10-15 min a game. I'm sure he will be needed to fill in for an injury at some point in the season.

With the current roster, there is some serious pressure on Ben and Rudy to play great defense. We did a good job to add shooting and veteran presence, but our wing defense doesnt look very good on paper.
