Bulls Interested in Ron?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and as some of you know, I’m very intrigued with a trade with the Bulls (I really hope we can pull it off). There are some players that I would love to have. I mentioned Kirk Hinrich for Mike Bibby a short while ago but I heard something on the Carmichael Dave Show regarding Ron.

Carmichael Dave was talking to Sam Amick from the Bee. They were talking about Ron and his possible future. Sam was saying that the Bulls were thinking about acquiring Ron Artest and if Ron can help them (but nothing was on the table). So here’s my question. Is Ron Artest a player that 1. Can help the Bulls? 2. How many players would be they willing to give us? 3. Would you want draft picks?

I never really thought that the Bulls would be thinking about Ron (if this is true), it just never crossed my mind and I didn’t think they would be interested in getting him after they dealt him out before….Here’s a couple players I think the Bulls might be willing to trade (maybe, maybe not).

Ron is making $7,400,000 (SF).

Ben Gordon $4,881,669 (SG) – Geoff loves Shooting Guards and so do I. Plus, it seems that Ben hasn’t lived up to his potential and the team might be willing to send him off (hopefully to us :p )

Joakim Noah $2,135,400 (C) – Geoff was interested in drafting him but we got a more skilled guy in Hawes. With his recent issues with the Bulls staff and teammates, who knows. But do we need him? Spencer has barely seen the floor (I’d rather see Hawes develop his talents) and I don’t want to see another angry player on our team.

Tyrus Thomas $3,505,320 (PF) – Don’t really know that much about him except that he’s only 21 years old; and he isn’t averaging too many points this season. Even though Joe Smith is getting more minutes that Thomas is, I’m not sure they’d be willing to keep their 32 yr oldy over a much younger guy.

Your thoughts would be great. Anybody on the Bulls roster that you think we can get? I would love to hear your ideas/thoughts.

I don't really see the kings going for Ron. And if they did want him I think that they would be reluctant to give us something we really would want.

I would want Tyrus or Noah for sure, but would they give it? Build expirings around one of those two and I would be down for sure but I doubt that will happen

Yeah me too. I Reckon Ty would definitely like Reggie as coach and vise versa. Skiles pretty much had no patience with him and would get angry everytime, i mean everytime Ty made a mistake. Usually by subing him off.

That’s actually really sad, how is a player supposed to learn if they can’t make some basic mistakes. Plus I’ve heard from some members that he is a going to be a good player and he has a lot of upside but he needs minutes…I was reluctant to put him up as a choice for us because the Bulls organization is probably going to look for another coach over the summer and they might want to keep Tyrus a little longer to see if he’ll do well with someone else. But if they want Artest, they would have to match salaries and we need a PF, so maybe it’ll work.

I'd be down with gettin TT from the bulls...Ben Gordon, nah...We got Martin

Martin starting and Gordon off the bench with Cisco and John. I can never have too many shooters.

I really hope that the Bulls and Kings start talking heavily. Even though the Bulls are reluctant to include Tyrus in any deals right now, I think if they have to, they will. Lets hope they do.

Eh, there's a reason Tyrus THomas is available in a trade...he's a diminutive Stromile Swift re-incarnated. Don't want the guy AT ALL.

picking up noah or thomas would be pointless..

In what sense? Both are young, power forwards. Both were lottery selections. In a short amount of time, Theus is beginning to show that he can develop youth. (We'll see how that works over time.)
I'd think it a steal to get either one of them for Ron, considering we get NOTHING for Ron at the end of the year.

Tell me you're joking. Calling Thomas a bust based off this year's Bulls is like saying Brad Miller was on the decline based off last year's Kings. That team is a mess, and there are too many issues going on to draw conclusions like that.

Totally agree.. More so for Noah instead of Thomas, but yah.. Agree.. Not sure what that other guy was thinking about when he said no.. We lose Artest anyway, might as well try for something.

Word. Add to this, he is only 21 years old. I think the kid should have stayed in school a few more years. However, labeling a kid a bust at 21 while playing on a team that is falling apart is premature to say the least.

I worry about his height a little. However, I would sure as heck take a chance on him in an Artest trade.

Far from it, Brad had 8-9 years that stated otherwise, Thomas was an underwhelming rookie and has been even less impressive as a sophomore. He's a better defensive version of Hakim Warrick really...nice to have, SURE but I wouldn't spend a franchise or near franchise level player for him, he's nothing more than a ROLE player off the bench type of player AT BEST.

His per/36 numbers were better than Hawes's so far this year. Is Spencer an underwhelming rookie? Is he nothing more than a role player off the bench type of player?

Thomas may not yet turn out to be the next Shawn Marion (although his per36 as a 21 year old aren't far off) but he'll surely be better than a Hakim Harrick type. And if you're trying to get rid of Artest anyway, why not take a gamble?

Artest is a franchise player on his way out. You'd rather lose him for nothing than get a young PF with huge potential? There's a reason the Bulls traded Aldridge for him instead of just keeping LA

I know a lot of people here aren’t high on getting another shooting guard. Especially since we have Kevin, Cisco, Douby, Salmons (he’s not really a shooter in my opinion). But seriously, with the Bulls thinking about getting Artest and willing to put anybody (or almost anybody) we might be able to get Gordon if only they’re willing to throw in Tyrus Thomas in there just to match salaries. Plus, since a lot of people are willing to give Ron away for free I would love to see Ben G. in our uniform, playing with Martin, Cisco, Douby, Hawes and Miller.

“The Chicago Bulls are being described as "all over the map" in their trade talks. In addition to trying to move Ben Wallace, one source said the Bulls are now "as open as they've ever been" to trading Ben Gordon.”

a) building a team of nothing but shooters = building a team to fail

b) there is only one ball

c) in a Gordon/Thomas trade for Artest, my interest is in Thomas. Gordon is meat and a trade piece.

d) Gordon will be looking for big bucks after this season. We already have an OG pulling big bucks and cannot affrod another.

e) despite all that I do it instantly just to end this stupidity and get some young plaeyrs that can then maybe be developed or traded for other, betetr young players

I understand that a team needs to be rounded in order to win anything; but since I love shooters it’s hard for me not want him. Plus, I’d trade Salmons for him. Good think I’m not a gm :p

I know Ben will be looking for a lot more money and he didn’t sign the nice extension the Bulls were offering him, but I would love to see how he would do here at least for half the season.

And that’s where I love my idea of getting Ben become genius :D. Most of us just want to get rid of Ron, so why not try to get something good out of it, even if it means another SG and a guy who’d probably leave at the end of the season.

The only thing the Bulls have that I'd be interested in is young bigs, AKA, Thomas and Noah. Hawes and Noah is not a sure thing, but it has a shot at being a great front court for the future.

TT would be awesome to have in Sac. He hasn't had much time to play on the Bulls which is a shame considering he is so young and athletic and flies down the court like a PG at his height. He and Noah fight for minutes and both are somewhat redundant in they are hustlers. While I like Noah as well, I'd rather have TT if it came down to 1 or the other.

And Ben Gordon would be our Bobby Jackson. He loves coming off the bench and if given starter minutes he puts up 30 pts pretty consistently! Then move Salmons to SF and have Garcia back him up. Then Douby can smoke a dubby because he is gone. :p

Sweet. Someone sees it like me. Besides getting Thomas, Gordon would be a great spark off the bench; having Cisco and Gordon and then sometimes playing Kevin / Ben or Cisco / Kevin. I think I would like what I would see. Plus, I would think it would be easier to do a trade with the Bulls right now considering that Ben has a wrist injury and they might want someone to fill his void.

Ignoring the reality of whether or not we could actually acquire Gordon, the problem is that just like the Bulls, we would have to figure out a way to keep him. He reportedly rejected a 5 year / $50 million extension that the Bulls offered him, so it is probably going to be tough to keep him around.

Petrie would absolutely love him though.

-Undersized SG? Check.
-Incredible jump shooter? Check.
-Decent but not great defender? Check.
-Incredible energy and scoring off the bench? Check.
-Clutch shooter? Check.
-Doesn't address front-court issues? Check.

To me it’s really not about being able to acquire Ben. Simply because I think there’s a possibility we can, considering that the Bulls are willing to part with him. But like you said the hard part is keeping him. Petrie would love him and so would I. :D

Your list doesn’t look too bad, 5 out of the 6 choices seem good, except the front-court issues.
