Bring back Webber

Webber+Phi 07 1st round pick for Kenny Thomas+Williamson+Potapenko

The contract of Webber expires at the same time than the contracts of Artest and Kevin Martin, so we could give them extensions without problems with the salary cap, and the 1st round pick of Phi this year probably is going to be high.

Heh -- if we could basically reverse the Webb trade (as above) AND get a pick thrown in for good measure I would annoint you the greatest GM of all time. ;)

????

When the time comes, and I think it will be sooner rather than later, Webber will walk away. He's not going to stick around and become a parody of himself. At least, I hope not.

:(

I hope you're right, but I fear that you're wrong. It seems like the players with the most passion and drive are often the ones who can't see when it's time to bow out gracefully. Look at Jerry Rice (another one of my all time favorites) he was how old & was still shocked that noone would put him in the lineup? It's one of the few drawbacks of that passionate personality type....

I'm all for bringing Webber back... at least he has heart!

This team right now has no heart, no unity.

It's not reverse the Webb trade. When Webber was traded, his numbers were like 22 pts 10 reb 5 apg, and Skinner and Williamson with years left on their contracts. Now, Webber has asked to be traded and nobody wants him, his numbers are 10 pts 8 reb 2.5 apg, 37% FG and 45% FT, has problems with everyone in Philadelphia and we give 10 mill in expirings. I think it's not the same.

He's bounce back here in Sac and help us anyway he can. He might not be able to sprint up and down the court, but I'd take him over K9 and all of his 6' 7" size.

I enjoyed watching Chris Webber when he was a King. I was fortunate enough to see him play in person on numerous occasions. I hope he does well in life, has children, and excels at whatever he chooses to do next.

However, for the love of God I wish he would retire so we don't have to suffer through these threads anymore.

Word.

Frankly, I would give almost anything to see him back as a King. I think he more than earned the right to retire here as just what he was for so long, a King.
Alas, I don't think it would be fair to Chris. He would, once again, bear the brunt of a large chunk of the fan bases frustrations, from losing to the price of gas, it would all, once again, be his fault. I don't think he deserves that either.
I wish we could undo time, but we can't. I still, and will probably always, remember that day of the trade as one of the darkest in Kings history. In one fell swoop, the last of our identity, our heart and our soul were ripped out. To see so many celebrate it sickened me, much the same way sitting in ARCO and hearing some very vocal fans voice venomous hatred toward one of our own did.

Word on this, too. Especially the bolded part...

Just think how bad it would have been if we never traded him. You'd have 75% of people blaming him for the price of tea in China to the price of gas and having him run out of town vowing to never step a foot here again.

Did you see Webber play against the Bulls a few days ago, he looked horrible. The Sixers might be the worst team in NBA. Why anybody would want Webber back is beyond me. I think Petrie trading Webber when he did might go down as one of his best trades. Have you guys read the Sixer's board, nobody can stand this guy and everybody wants to get rid of him but nobody in the league will take him. He is a shell of his former self and makes over $20 mil. Can't we just appreciate what he gave us in his time here and move on.

I appreciate what Webber gave us. And I understand that particular Webber is gone. He can't jump any longer, he can't run down on fast breaks.

In fact, he looks alot like... Vlade Divac in '99. Vlade never jumped. Vlade rarely ran down the court. He had a few tricks at the basket. He had a very high game IQ. He was an essential piece because of his passing.

Imagine having a Vlade Divac again who could pass, make a couple of moves at the hoop on occasion, and in addition, grab more rebounds than Vlade because of great hands.

THAT is Chris Webber today. And Mo Cheeks can't figure out what he's got. Thus, Webber is dispirited and playing with little energy.

The only problem I see with having Webber on our team today is Musselman. Adelman knew how to get the most out of Vlade. I'm not sure Muss would know how to use him.

In fact, Brad Miller is trying his best to be Vlade Divac because I believe Vlade became his role model when he got here. He's not too bad at it when Muss actually let's him play.

BRAVO! CWebb today is not what he was before the injury. That Webb is gone. I look at old clips & it's hard to believe it's even the same player. However, he still has the skills to contribute on the court in many ways. He still has amazing hands, he still has an amazing knowledge of the game, and maybe, just maybe, it'd be nice to have a little ball movement like the good old days. That said, in my heart, I don't want CWebb back because I know how brutal people would be. It broke my heart when people booed him at Arco & I don't think he needs to go back there again. I wish Webb had never been traded. I think we could use him. But I don't think bringing him back could bring back the love, passion & devotion he had for this place before the trade. And seeing him crucified in the media again would be too much to take.

I do wish he would get out of Philly. I think you have a great point about Mo Cheeks not utilizing his skills. I feel bad for Webb because he's in a bad situation. Ever since he got traded to Philly, they've been trying to make him into what he WAS, instead of evaluating what he IS and using him accordingly. Sad situation.

And, finally, great point about Adelman. One of the things I loved about Adelman was his ability to see a player as a whole, and to use them to the best of their abilities. More & more I'm seeing that that is a rare quality in coaches. In my eyes the jury is still out on Musselman... we will have to see.... I will hope for the best!

And from me, a third "Word!"

I think you've really hit the nail on the head.

Why don't we just trade for both Webber (he'd be happy back in Sac) AND AI (he wants out) and just become Philly 76'ers, Ver. 2.0.:eek:

I would totally take webber back.......in Feb of next year and getting rid of all our loose pieces :P

I agree with every word.

Made me tear up. :o :(

I love CWebb, but I watched him play a few games and the guy is just over. I feel real bad for him, I think it's more than AI over there which is soon to change. Maybe Bibby could bring some life back into CWebb in Philly, not Sac that is! :p

Maybe it was just AI, he is looking more like the CWebb of old the last 2 games. Good Chris!!!

He's been playing well the past 2 games AI didn't play. the 6ers lost but I guess that's to be expected with their current situation of uncertainty right now.

His line is something like:
20/10/5 vs the wizards
19/10/8 vs orlando

I got to watch him against washington and the offense looked really good in the 1st quarter when they ran it through Webb.

Although I do NOT want to let Bibby go, I think the Bibby-Webber tandem would bring more life back to Webber. I'd rather us get Webber than us trade Bibby.

But I have to admit, a lot of my input that involves trading or getting Webber or Bibby will be based largely on emotion.:o

If he could accept a non-starring role on a team CWebb could be a GREAT 6th man type for as long as his body lets him. I'm not sure he can but I still have nothing but good feelings for him, flaws and all. I'd love to see him come back if it didn't cripple the capspace. Can't see it happening, but wouldn't say no if it did.

Everything I hear about him in Philly now though makes me think the body won't hold up and its a bit sad but he still had a great run. He might just fade into the sunset but it'd also be fun to watch him do the McDyess thing and try to help a contender and get a ring.

But CWebb can have Corliss' spot as our aging-but-still-cool MLE veteran any time he wants it, sure. If he's not too proud for that I'm not to proud to love the idea. We'll sign a squat, powerful undrafted rookie just to carry him up and down the floor piggyback. That's a NICE bench compared to what we got now. :D

The guy did leave his knee and the best ball ever played in a King's uni on the floor at Arco.

McDyess definitely came to mind too after I read the first line of your post, but I don't know if Webber could have that mindset or not.

Chris Webber will not return to the Sacramento Kings until/unless it's to see his jersey retired into the rafters ...

Right. I could actually see Webber going home to Detroit and replacing McDyess in that very role when both their deals expire after next season--if he doesn't retire.

And that, right there, makes me happy AI is leaving Philly, regardless of what team he endss up with. I think Webb's playing style was incompatible with AI & that Webb will play much better with AI not around.

And just when people started talking about "Webber should get ready to retire" he comes back like his old self.
