Only problem I have with the video is Cousins shooting 3's, I sure hope he doesn't do that in the regular season, we really don't need that from him in any form.
People get too caught up in the "our bigs shouldn't shoot outside" stuff. If cuz plays tough inside too, what's the big deal if he's hitting them? Especially if he's at PF and Dali the 5. As long as he's not gunnin, he's got the touch, and ya know he's still tougher than a Hawes under the hoop.
As a fan of this team and what it needs to do to be "successful" obviously I would prefer if he would never take any 3's, but we all know that most likely isn't going to happen. I doubt he will be hitting them with consistency anyways, the 3 pointers from his summer league games are closer than in an actual NBA game, so who knows how he will shoot them once the bright lights turn on. I sure hope he shows that toughness more than the finesse he has as well, I won't mind it don't get me wrong though.

I was at the summer league games and if memory serves, he took only one three pt shot and that was with the clock running down. I also believe that the three pt line is the same since there were two lines on the floor and they were using the outer one. Remember, the video is from a charity game for god sake. The guys are just out there having fun.
It's not just him shooting 3's, and by the way, when he did shoot that "one" so you say....it was at the first line, not the NBA line. They can have fun all they want, but I just hope this does not become a habit. He also shot multiple shots close to the 3 point line and he started falling in love with it, so he decides he can dribble, step back & shoot a fade away jump shot like he's a SG. I'm sorry, but what I see is what I expect, I hope to get proven wrong.
If he shot it from behind the first line and not the second, then its wouldn't have been a three. The one he shot that I saw was from the right wing and he was behind the second line. Now if you want to argue over a bunch of petty crap, then have at it. But Cousins is going to be more than just Al Jefferson part two. He handles the ball well and he's a good passer. He also has a very good jump shot, which makes him difficult to guard, since he's capable of putting the ball on the floor or hitting a backdoor cutter. His gravy is in the post, and I'm sure he knows that. But that doesn't mean he can't use the rest of his talents as well, which I don't think will be shooting three's, unless he has no choice.
That's dandy and all, and maybe I misguided how many 3's he took. That doesn't matter, I am also talking about his shot selection which isn't the best and thinking he can dribble and create like that without expecting a turnover. It's nice and all he has other facets of his game, but so did Hawes. He didn't want to be inside very much as we saw. He isn't that horrible piece of trash by any stretch...but I sure hope his top priority will be to work in the post and think jumpshot only if its there.
In all the college games I watched him play, he seldom took a jump shot. He had the same skills at Kentucky that he has now. Calipari wanted him in the post and thats where he played. He's very coachable and if Westphal wants him in the post, I have no doubts that he'll do whats asked of him. But he's very capable of playing in the high post or at the elbow, and hitting that 15 to 18 foot jumper, or hitting a cutter with a pass. Remember, Cousins isn't afraid to bang, and has a very good post game as well as being a great rebounder. Hawes never seemed to like mixing it up under the basket, and his rebounding was a major disappointment. Offensively, I have no doubts about Cousins. Defensively, I think he'll go through more of a transition. Seldom do players come into the NBA and make immediate defensive impacts. It takes some time.
And please everyone, don't start listing players like Akeem etc that were great defensive players from the get go. Most of those are in the HOF. It takes time to learn, and get comfortable with defensive schemes. Especially if you went to a college that only played a zone defense like Syracuse. Kentucky did play mostly man to man though. Anyway, I wouldn't get too concerned over a charity game or even summer league. Lets get 20 or 30 games into the regular season before worrying about his shot selection. Also remember that if the Kings have Dalembert and Cousins on the floor together at times, your more likely to see Cousins out away from the basket than Dalembert, who has little or no game out there.
We will have to see til the preseason starts and what not to see what Demarcus shows up, Kentucky or Summer league
Either way, we get a damn good player
