Breaking: Reggie Theus Fired

G-League
According to Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo! Sports:

The Sacramento Kings fired coach Reggie Theus on Monday morning, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

Assistant coach Kenny Natt was named the interim coach.

The Kings are believed to be intrigued with bringing former Kings coach Eddie Jordan back to Sacramento, but it’s most likely they’ll wait until the end of the season to pursue him. The Kings had lost nine of 10 games and are in last place in the Pacific Division at 6-18.

Well, I think we all saw that coming, and let's hope that Natt commits to doing sane things like playing the youth consistently.

But please, please, please no Eddie Jordan. Please.

I will admit to being one of the few people around here who didn't expect this. I will also admit to being one of the few people who doesn't think this will do much good if any. I'm not upset, I'm not a huge Reggie fan, but I don't think much will change. I suppose it will at least give the impression that the front office is trying to fix things.

I'll leave the exuberant joy to others - I'm sure there will be plenty. ;)

I liked Reggie but he just seemed to do nothing but lose while he was a Sacramento King both as a player and coach. I wish he could have had a chance to win.

So what's the effect of firing the coach before a winnable game at home? If the coach were not well-liked by the players, you might think they'd come out extra hard for the new guy. But the players seemed to like Reggie. Might there be a letdown?

It will be interesting to hear from Natt what was communicated to him regarding the direction of the team. Will he mention the youth movement? I'm hoping for something more than vague platitudes going forward. At least set some specific goals for the youngins and regarding player development.

I wish they would have named Chuck Person as the interim coach.

LOL, on 2nd thought.....damm, I liked Chuck.

I wish they would have named Chuck Person as the interim coach.

It's interesting that they hired the assistant in charge of the Kings defense when there isn't a person alive who thinks the Kings have played good defense. Like a lot of things in Kings-land we'll probably never know why...

plus wasn't the knock on jordan in washington his team's lack of defense?

i don't want a coach that has to be a defensive guru, but isn't there on available out there to replace reggie who can just teach this group basic fundamentals of both offense and defense???

Elston Turner!

Flip would work for me as well.

Eddie Jordan? No thank you. Not unless we're going to follow that by bringing in Adelman in two years. Or, Reggie was not doing a good job "tanking," so they're bringing in Jordan in the hopes that he can do the job right. Eddie is a sub-.500 coach. Surely this team can do better. In all honesty, I'm perplexed by the move. Sure, the team was inconsistent, but with pieces that don't completely mesh, what do you expect?

If Theus is gone, the logical move would be to clear the vets as much as possible and bring in someone for the long term.

Well, as one of reggies biggest supporters on here, it is what it is.

I dont think it was a good move, but Im obviously going to support Natt and the Team .. I just do not see ANY reason to do this mid season ... I'll miss yah reggie, good guy, decent coach in a situation where the coach had no shot the second he signed ..

I just pray we dont hire Jordan or Flip ... I wouldnt mind Jeff Van Gundy... actually, I just hope Petrie gets to pick the coach this time.

oh, by the way .. Im officially on the "Hire Tom Thibodeau" bandwagon .. for those of you who dont know him, he is the celts assistant coach and basically in charge of there defense .. Here in boston he gets most of the credit for how they play D ..

this is from wikipedia -

Tom Thibodeau is an American basketball coach and current associate assistant to head coach Doc Rivers of the Boston Celtics. He is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Celtics and overall in his 19th year of coaching in the National Basketball Association (NBA). One of the finest defensive coaches in the league, he helped the Houston Rockets rank among the Top 5 in the league in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense from 2004 to 2007,[1] and has helped his team finish in the league's Top 10 in team defense 15 times.[2] He coached in 87 playoff games and was part of the 1999 NBA Finals as an assistant coach with the New York Knicks prior to joining the Celtics, with whom he won the 2008 NBA Championship.

I hate to see Reggie go. But something had to happen. Our current roster is definitely not his fault. So who's next to go? Brad Miller?

According to Amick:

BLOG UPDATE (10:40 a.m.): The news has been confirmed by the Kings media relations staff.
