Bonzi to Detroit S&T idea

nbrans

All-Star
Trade #1
Sacramento outgoing:
Bonzi (S&T starting at $6.5 million)

Sacramento incoming (from Detroit):
Dale Davis - $3,500,000
Carlos Delfino - $1,037,000
Amir Johnson - $664,209

Kings add a solid backup big man in Davis, a disgruntled shooting guard and good defender in Delfino, and a 19 year old power forward prospect and stay right around the tax level. Amir Johnson is athletic and can shoot from outside (he went off for 18 points in the second to last game of the season), but he's still a project.

$6.5 million is the maximum Bonzi could make in this trade because it's 125% of Detroit's outgoing salary. Detroit's incoming salary would put the Kings right around the tax level. Detroit already used their MLE, so this is the only chance they'd have at Bonzi.

PS: whoops, posted this in the wrong forum, mods please move?

personnel moves ;)

and i dont like the move at all... rather just let bonzi walk

I like Davis still. He can still bang, board, block some shots. I like Delfino, but Delfino wouldn't fit in here unless we dealt Garcia, or we'd use Delfino in another trade.

Doubt the deal happens though.

I'm just curious why Bonzi would be interested in 6.5 mil when he passed up 7.1 or 7.2 with the Kings.

This trade would put us at like 18 players on the roster, would we want to cut amundson, williams, or price?

This deal wouldn't have me jumping for joy, but at least it would give the Kings a solid backup center, a promising 2 guard and a prospect. Getting Delfino on the roster could provide some more flexibility if they wanted to trade Garcia, and the Kings could give Johnson a look in training camp and let him battle it out with Amundson and Williams. I think it's better than letting Bonzi walk.

Just about anything is worth letting Bonzi walk. He has value, although not to his expectations, and can be used to hopefully get us what we want now or prospects for the future. How many players can we have on our roster anyways?

Developmental league

Just curious, but if you send a couple of players to the developmental league, does it count against your salary cap?

Waste of time... Davis ??? yeah right that guy sucks... he was a solid role player how many years ago ... hes old and done now... unless all these guys are coming off the books next year this would never happen... what in the world would we do with another shooting guard???

Normally I'd say fine, but if we added Delfino on top of all the other kids...man, short of trading Bibby and making Salmons the starter over there I have absolutely no idea where the bmintes would come from. It would be an overcrowded nursery school.

Well, I'd assume Delfino would be traded or Garcia would. Only way it'd work out for him - and the guy wants to play and get minutes. Being stuck on the Detroit bench getting those erratic minutes and oppurtunities.

^right. As it stands right now I don't think you can trade Garcia because he's really the only real backup small forward on the roster. Getting Delfino provides some of that vaunted "flexibility" to move either Delfino or Garcia.

Like I said, I'm not terribly enthused by this deal, but I have a feeling that if there is a Bonzi S&T it's going to be something kind of craptastic like this. Teams just don't have an incentive to 1) give him much more than the MLE and 2) send much our way. The demand just isn't there.

I'd be pretty cool with it overall. I really like Maxiell, he is 6'7", but I think he can play much bigger than his size being wide, strong, long, and athletic. Johnson I know is athletic and 6'9", not sure of much else though. Fine with the rest of it. It'd be something at least.

Maxiell stuff:
Scouting Report: Athletic power forward plays with attitude ... Keeps the ball high and finishes strong ... Shows soft touch around the basket ... Good post moves with two hands, he is a natural close to the hoop, but he needs to develop an all-around offensive game ... Doesn't do much facing the basket at this stage ... Range limited 15 feet on his jumper ... Has solid form but doesn't collect himself well enough with his body off balance ... Needs to work on shooting from a jump stop ... Solid dribbling skills to navigate through traffic, but he will not slash much from the far perimeter ... Nice passing touch ... Able to move feet on defense and is active in a pressing defense ... Good hands and instincts for loose balls, likes to flash in the passing lanes ... Outstanding shot-blocker ... Gritty rebounder ... Has tried to extend his game to the perimeter as a senior in order to improve his stock among NBA scouts.

I haven't seen much of either Johnson or Maxiell, but my impression of Maxiell was always that he's a poor man's KT.

Summer league stats:

Johnson:
27.0 min, 52.6% FG, 7.2 Reb, 0.4 Ast, 1.0 Blk, 9.8 ppg

Maxiell:
30.8 min, 42.8% FG, 4.6 reb, 0.8 Ast, 0.8 Blk, 14.0 ppg

Maxiell/KT are both tweeners, but Maxiell's bigger mass and width wise, as well as more of an intimidator on the floor because of his overall presence. Obviously the last thing is yet to be seen in much regular NBA action, but I think he would be.

Both are athletic, yeah.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search=Jason+Maxiell&search_type=search_videos&search=Search - couple videos on Maxiell. 2nd one has highlights of Maxiell/Delfino/Johnson from a late reg. season game.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search=Amir+Johnson&search_type=search_videos&search=Search - Amir Johnson. Really just 1 or 2.

Don't think he'll be a poor-man's KT. Similarities they have are they're both 6'7" PFs. If we got him, it's not like he'd be starting for us or anything - likely a third big. Also, won't have KT's attitude or bad contract. ;)

Overall from what I've gathered on him, I'm just intrigued and think he can be something solid.
