Bodiroga to play for Kings???

I got this off the ESPN board(not exactly the most credible source) and it seems interesting. Maybe some of our European members can enlighten us a little more:

"AS (Spanish Sports Newspaper)today published an article with european basketball legend Dejan Bodiroga, in which he stated he is very much considering to take a stab at the NBA. Bodiroga's NBA rights belong to the Sacramento Kings, who have always been intrested in having Dejan in the line up, but could never convince, quit possibly the worlds best player outside the NBA, to make Sacramento his home. If the rumor holds true, Sacramento would have two of Serbia's Super Stars in their line up, which would mean trouble for the rest of the league."
 
**** Bodiroga, so now that his career is close to being over he wants to come to the NBA for his retirement. If he wanted to pay for the Kings he should've came when he got drafted back in 95. I watched him play yesterday on NBATV, Barcelona - CSKA, and i didn't see anything special in him, he seemed very unathletic, definetely not what we need.


Before anybody rips on me: Yes i know who Bodiroga is he had a great career in Europe, he is a legend.
 
Bodiroga HAD a great career? When did he retire?

I mean OK, he is 31 now, but he is still one of the best. Maybe this year he is not in his best form, but come on.

I just hope he shows up at the European Basketball Championships in the summer. Team Serbia & Montenegro have a lot to prove in Belgrade.

Geoff Petrie is the master of unloading players that have passed their prime. I see no way that, given his pattern of acquisitions and releases, Petrie would consider the Bodiroga option. it won't happen.
 
we r not talking about just "some" guy giving a chance to play ... we are talking about Dejan Bodiroga ... 31 is not that old ... come on now ... lets see what he brings to the team ... if he comes

Bodiroga's quickness was never a major part of his game...he's not Stephon Marbury. Therefore, the aging doesn't hurt him as much. Look at Vlade...if you haven't got something, you can't lose it.

So he's past his prime and it is only rumored he will return... I'll bet we can trade the rights to him to the Sixers for some more quality guys! HA HA HA!
 
OK sorry, he is 32. His birthday is on the 2nd of March, 1973.

He still has a few more productive years left.
 
Sorry, this is off topic, but I just hope all our best players show up for Eurobasket 2005. It's gonna get ugly if they don't. I mean look at the opposition: Spain, Lithuania, France and so on.
 
Bodiroga is way past his prime. He's doing exactly what Antoine Rigadeau (sp??) did when he signed with the Mavs a few years back. He was considered to be the best shooter in the world not in the NBA and a hero in France. Well, he signed with Dallas and did absolutely nothing. He was totally ineffective and he was too old to stick around and learn the NBA game.
 
OK first of all, Antoine Rigadeau is NOT Dejan Bodiroga. Please don't compare the two.

And second of all, this is probably just a made up story. I mean why would Dejan leave Europe where he is God. It wouldn't make any sense.

don't know for that French guy but in Indy 2002 Bodiroga destroyed argentina in the final......and I remember him from olimpycs 1996, he was really good....exceptional clutch player and high basketball IQ....and as you said he is past his prime......btw I'd like to see Oberto or Scola as possible kings options for next year.....

I'll be honest ... I know absolutely nothing about this guy's career ???

So, with that said:

King's status/needs back in '95 no longer apply in '05 ... 10 years ago
How do we miss what we never had ???
Opportunity knocks ... better answer the door.
Is he productive/washed-up in his own league ??? ... if he's talking of retirement

Bottom-line ... we got some playoffs we're gettin' ready for !!!

First of all, I was not comparing the two as players. The only comparison I was making was that if Bodiroga wants to now play in the NBA it IMO would be much like the situation Rigadeau was in. Both were great European players, past their prime and wanting to give the NBA a shot. On the court Bodiroga is and was much better than Rigadeau, but if it's true that Bodiroga wants to play in the NBA it seems like he wants it to be his swan song just as Rigadeau did.
 
I wouldn't put much stock in a story from the ESPN boards quoting a Spanish newspaper, especially about what the Kings might or might not do.

My personal opinion is that there's no upside to bringing an aging Euro star to the Kings when we're obviously trying to get younger and tougher. And, as others have mentioned, I cannot imagine Bodiroga leaving Europe to come to the NBA and facing the possibility of not reaching a level anywhere close to what he has achieved over there.
 
So if he was interviewed by a Spanish newspaper, where is the link? I can translate as Im sure some other spanish speakers can as well. Post the link pls.
 
Why are his assist numbers so low. For his career he is about 2.0-3.0 per game, this year he is 1.4
