You know our luck - Samueli is the ref!
So their line-up would be:
Stern
Tait
Maloofs
Micky Mouse
Clay Bennett
Samueli
Bavetta
Delany

I think he's playing on his own team. A known political financier who wants to become a power player in sacramento? Stop acting as if he's Superman trying to save the common man. He obviously has his own agenda.Nah... Kobe/Horry (Ron Burkle) is playing on our team this time!![]()

There wasn't an instance of honesty in Bennett's move of the Sonics out of Seattle. Documents proved it. Now he's lording over Kings future.
People can dump on the Maloofs all they want and the boys no doubt realize they're not the most popular bachelors in Sac as this point. But I bet they don't give a hoot and why should they? They've been fighting for a new arena all out since 2002 - having taken majority control of Kings franchise in 1998. Before the Maloofs, previous owner Jim Thomas tried to get the blittering idoits at City Hall to come up with a new arena plan, and way back in 1992 original owner Greg Lukenbill (who built both Arco 1 and Arco 2 totally on his own) was talking about need for a new arena development plan since what he had built was only a temporary facility that would not be suitable for future expansion or rehab. All of these guys failed to get a new arena because they city of Sacramento dropped the ball - NOT THEM!
We get it Gavin. Is this the same pitch you made yesterday?
Donald Sterling.Wow......just wow. The Maloofs relationship with Sacramento is pretty much over regardless of the outcome of the extension. If they are denied relocation, they will have to sell the team to Burkle now.
It's Stern's league, he can do whatever he wants. He says it was a decision by he the committee and the Maloofs. They want to look at both anahiem and Sacramento again.Exactly just that. The PR moves is going to KILL them.
Does anyone have a sparknotes version of the current status? I read 10 pages of posts, and it was just giving me mixed answers! I don't understand how there can be ANOTHER extension for the Maloofs.
I don't care what his motivations are if he wants to keep the team in Sac. Nobody does things at this level without strings attached. Obviously a new arena deal is part of whatever his plans are so he doesn't help get a new arena here and bail, imho. Clay Bennett told Seattle one thing but EVERYBODY knew he was moving the team except the people he gave his word to.I think he's playing on his own team. Ever consider the possibility that he wants to move the team himself? Remember, Clay Bennett told Seattle he wanted to give it a shot in Seattle when he bought the team, if they could work out an arena deal. Internal emails surfaced later that showed he was focused on moving from the outset, despite his initial comments.

If they are broke they shouldn't have majority control of the team. Period. This is a franchise operation not a family business. If the fate of an NBA team is truly at stake based on the business failings in Vegas that is a problem that requires the NBA to step in. While they probably can't force the Maloofs to sell outright they certainly can handcuff them in a way that forces the inevitable. The reason mhy the maloofs cannot wait another year is because they are broke! The NBA is now a billionaires club and the maloofs cannot hang anymore. Its Anaheim or bust. Not Louisville. Not Kansas City. Not Sacramento. They NEED to move to Anaheim and their huge population and large TV deals or its lights out for the Maloofs.
Thats why they werent willing to give KJ and the ICON. Group another year to pu this deal together.
Thats exactly what I was thinking yesterday as soon as they said how much political connection he has. For him to put his name out there to buy the Kings or help build the arena, the Sac politicians will have to scratch his back as well. Some sort of under the table deal to help his businesses with low taxes and other ways to make more money?
What I'm saying is, compared to guys like Shinn and Sterling, the Maloofs are saints.Exactly just that. The PR moves is going to KILL them.

Of course, he may just be diverifying his investments. Buy low (crappy arena, low prestige), sell high.

Not sure Burkle is any sort of threat like Bennett was to Seattle. Unless he buys the current Sac Kings (99% not going to happen), his deal will be to secure land and an arena before the NBA sells him
But that's my point entirely. Other than public statements, what of substance have we seen? Clay Bennett was singing the same song to Seattle when all along he was planning on moving the team. It seems to me that the fanbase is so desperate that they will open their legs to anybody and make totally emotional based decisions.
So again, other than what you want to happen because of your personal feelings about the team, what of substance proves he wants to keep the team here? All he's done is make public statements.

As has been pointed out, this guy has a track record of saving popular small market franchises. But that's my point entirely. Other than public statements, what of substance have we seen? As much as this scenario fails to appeal to me (though I'll be happy for Sac and not write off the NBA entirely if it occurred, even attend games when in town), this is a HUGE point in his favor and that he isn't trying to pull a swerve job. What is he going to buy the Hornets and move them to Sac for a season and then to Pitt? I don't think so.OR bring another team in to Sacramento should the Kings leave.
If you don't see how the situations are different, no amount of explaining will help. The Bennett deal was always about moving a team to OKC. The Burkle deal is about politics, Sacramento; and the political epicenter of the entire f&*#@g world.
When was that ever decided?
This line of discussion came after the idea that the Maloofs would be forced to stay, and because of the burned bridges between the fans, also sell to Burkle. So...As has been pointed out, this guy has a track record of saving popular small market franchises.
Also, if the guy comes in promising to help fund an arena in Sac and then pulls a 180 the NBA will not respond in kind. This is not Seattle where the voters wrote it into the constitution that there will never be public funding for a sports team again. This is a city fighting for its right to help. And again, Clay Bennett clearly had an interest prior to the sale of moving a team. It was not a secret. He just lied to the seller. That does not appear to be the case here, who has powerful Sacramento based allies already and is looking to further those interests.
Look, we understand that this is a long shot and that there is a huge long road ahead paved with obstacles. We really do.I understand your point Showtime and I agree with you. Its just hard to get some of the guys here to agree with you because they want to Kings to stay at almost any cost. Its their opinion so it is what it is.
no s&*t. They repeatedly make emotional statements to the media. It it were calculated might make some sense, but it comes across as knee-jerk.
