Blowing up the team and making a run next season...

Here's what I'd do:

Kings/Celts

Kings get: Theo Ratliff/Brian Scalabrine/Kendrick Perkins

Celts get: Miller/Thomas

Why: Pierce needs help in Boston and they have Al Jefferson to pair with Brad(the athletic PF he needs by him). His passing and shooting would help out Paul Pierce a lot. The Kings get rid of 2 iffy/bad contracts, get a shotblocker they need, a huge expiring next year they can use as trade bait(Ratliff), and an outside shooter/3 point specialist(Scalabrine).

Kings/Hornets

Kings get: Marc Jackson/Cedric Simmons

Hornets get: Shareef Abdur Rahim(not sure if we'd need to add in Garcia)

Why: Kings get another big man who can shoot from the outside in Jackson, but most importantly they basically shed Reef's contract(Jackson expires this offseason) and they get a young PF with potential.

Kings/Heat

Kings get: Dorrel Wright/James Posey/1st round pick

Heat get: Ron Artest/Jason Hart

Why: The Heat need a PG who can defend and they need another guy to go with Shaq and Wade. Ron Artest gives them a fierce defender who can rebound from the SF position and can take some of the offensive load off of Shaq while he recovers. The Kings are planning to build around young players, get a draft pick that's good, and get cap room this year(in my plan). Ron is a good player, but attempting to do this with Ron on board is risky because he wants to win so bad. Posey is expiring and Wright is a good young player, he's an athletic SF.

You end up with a core of young players, a ton of cap room, and 2 first round picks. If Bibby walks then you have more cap room which you can use to sign Chauncey Billups. If a star hits the market during this offseason, you have a guy who expires next season(Ratliff), cap room, and young players to make a deal for them. You trade your picks and move up to get Brandan Wright. Use your cap room to sign Darko, Billups(if Mike walks), and some veteran role players off the bench(hell if you can re-sign Jackson/Posey to cheap contracts then I guess they end up working here). Your young core becomes Martin/Wright/Douby/(Brandan) Wright/Darko/Simmons.

If we are going to lose, might as well do it this way right? Musselhead needs the experience if he'll ever turn into a good coach anyway.

Please, no more ideas that include Darko. He is overrated and therfore will be overpaid...
I really dont like a single move here.
Deal 1 is not enough for Miller
Deal 2- Reef contact isnt bad
Deal 3- is the only close one. I like getting rid of our headcase who probably won't sign next summer. Im not sure Dorrel Wright is all that good though.

#1: How is it not enough for MIller? We get lucky enough to dump Thomas and we get a guy who expires in 2 years(Ratliff) that's making a lot of money. That's not even mentioning the fact that Perkins is a young center averaging 1.6 BPG. I know Brad's stats are hurt by his injury but you're not going to get too much for an injury prone 30 year old center that doesn't play D and averages 10/6/3 right now.

#2: It's not that Reef has a bad contract, the thing is if you're trying to clear cap room you want expiring contracts no matter what. Also getting a young PF in Simmons who has a lot of potential.

Ratliff is a terrible contract. Two years left does not constitute an expiring contract. If we did make a move such as this we would wait. See, at best, 30 games from Ratliff all the while we slip back into "expansionism" as a franchice that noone wants to go to. When you become a franchise like that you only sign free agents who want big time money (Joe Johnson), again overpaying for a player.

Because this offseason, Ratliff turns into an expiring contract. If Garnett/JO want a trade then we'll have the trading chips to land them. And they should be able to do something on a team with Bibby/Martin/Wright.

BTW Joe Johnson has actually worked out very well for ATL. They were a decent team until JJ got injured.

After those trades we dont have any chips, we are left with next to nothing, still bleeding talent.

Atlanta won 26 games last year. That is bad. Injury or not they are 10-21 this season. That to is bad. Injuries happen, its the ability of the team to absorb them. As a Kings fan, we saw that from 2001-2005 up close.

You honestly think that Miller, Thomas, and Shareef are trading chips? Nobody is going to give us a star for those guys. They are all middle aged big men who can't play D and are decent on offense(except KT). Trading chips are expiring contracts(what Ratliff turns into this offseason), inexpensive young players, and draft picks.

Dont get me wrong, I like the idea of moving these guys. I just dont like the above moves, I think there are different and better things which could be done.

Celtics will not take Brad Miller. They have said many times they want athleticism, and also Al Jefferson has flourished as a center. Don't you think the Celtics realizes that Brad Miller will not take them to the next level?

Keep in mind the Celts already has two undersized PF who cost much less than KT and probably play better than KT.

People, the Celtics has too many guards and wing but not enough bigs, particularily athletic bigs. There's no way in hell they'd trade THREE big men at once. Plus, they like Scalabrine as a locker room guy.

Also, no way the Hornet would give up a young stud like Simmons for SAR. What's the point? They have David West (injured but he's coming back).
