Blake Griffin hurt in USA scrimmage yesterday, time for Big Cuz?

HereWeBoogie

Hall of Famer
heard this morning, Griffin had a knee injury in yesterdays scrimmage. he flew back to LA to have an MRI. doesn't look good for him, i guess its time to see how much Cousins impressed the coaches during the week.

i dont know if they have made a decision on Davis yet. they just want him to come to training camp. idk if that means hes in for sure

FWIW I would rather have DMC on my team over Davis any day of the week twice on sundays. (remember when people used that expression)

They said Anthony Davis didnt even practice...and they picked him over cousins..cool

I really do think it's all about what they had submitted prior to even practicing. They sent a list of those who would be considered part of the team and then I believe there were drug tests that were conducted on all the eligible players, ect.

Since Cousins wasn't initially in the selection pool, he really had little-to-no chance of making the team. Since Davis went through all the red-tape it makes him an easy choice, and they must believe that his ankle will be fine by the time they have to really compete.

Of course the main issue is that Coach K. said last night that Griffin was going to play the 5, and that it would be his job to bang with the bigs like the Gasol brothers and rebound the basketball. Well...AD doesn't have any hope of banging with the Gasols at this point in time, so I don't know what they are going to do there. Probably do a lot of double-teaming hoping to keep the Gasols from beating them in the post.

Obviously Cousins makes a lot more sense for this team to fill the role that Coach K. wants, but I have to assume that it's too much of a hassle to go through the process to get him added (if it's even possible to do so)

I thought Cousins was a 290 pounder barely giving effort? Can't say I would want him on the team.

It's like the fates are conspiring to somehow get Demarcus on the team/ruin Jerry Colangelo's day.

Its getting interestinger and interestinger at olympic training camp. A comment fro SacBee article this afternoon:

"......while the executives went with Davis, the former Kentucky standout, the Kings' DeMarcus Cousins was discussed as a replacement. Cousins had a shaky first day here while playing with the Select Team, was earned great reviews for his play and comportment thereafter. One USAB type told me he was the best player on the floor during Tuesday's scrimmages."

Footage of Blake getting hurt.

Bumps knees to initially hurt it. Further agitates it when Cousins knocks him off balance on a strong foul.

You know, stuff like that generally seems to happen when the majority of your game is predicated on embarrassing people by dunking over them. Maybe Blake is going to have to temper his game a bit from now on.

In other news, the injury didn't really look too bad on tape but it's hard to tell with legs (Theisman excluded)

Just those two words can make me sick to my stomach all over again.

Other than that, you made a good point about Griffin having to learn to do more than dunk.

I said it before - but in this situation i'm taking AD over Cousins easily.

I need role players, I need guys who can come in and help in spot minutes in areas where this team struggles (defending the rim\paint) - I need guys who WANT to be role players and will take whatever minutes given to them and do exactly what the coach asks for and not anything further.

I'm sorry to break it down to ya, but Cousins absolutely does not fit that mold ( And in the shape he's looking to be and what I saw from him in that scrimmage a day ago(and the entire 2nd half of last season) he's closer to being a cancer defensively then to being helpful.) Anthony Davis does everything this team needs out of that role. He is the smart choice.

The last thing I wanted to hear was that DMC was involved in any way with Blake getting injured.
Even though it seemed like a clean play, and simply hit the ball out of Blake's hands as he went for the dunk, people may look DMC's way with blame....

Ballsy post.

I don't agree or disagree with you - it's just a gutsy post on this forum.

And if Chandler goes down during the Olympics? You want AD or Cuz sitting there?

I suspect you're going to get an education when you see what happens when AD gets a look at the Gasol brothers and has to choose which one to get run over by.

Cousins is a talent that can play the game the NT plays, at that pace. His processor works at that speed. And he's a full grown man physically, built for any war you get into.

AD has a roleplayer style game, but he's just a skinny kid at his first rodeo. He's the same guy we used to send over there until the internationals started spanking us into sending our pros.

I'm not at all fixated on Anthony Davis - It would just as easily be Derrick Favors for me instead if it helps you sleep better at night with a bigger more experienced body.. I'd take him over Big-Cuz in this situation aswell.

Ideally for me it'll obviously be Kevin Garnett, but I guess the wear and tear on his body is too much going nowadays to have that obligation after a deep playoff run, and maybe he wouldn't agree to take that side role.
