Billups out ---

Rumors are swirling around Billups. I think we might make a good 3rd team to get him to the Magic. It appears the Magic have soured some on Nelson. Nelson might be a good fit here in Sacto. My thoughts:

Kings deal: Jason Thompson and Cap space
Kings get: Jameer Nelson

Magic deal: Jameer Nelson, Brandon Bass
Magic receive: Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman

Nuggets deal: Billups, Balkman
Nuggets receive: Thompson, Bass and enough cap space to get themselves under the LTT.

Kings new roster:

C: Dalembert, Cousins, Whiteside
PF: Landry, Jackson
SF: Greene, Casspi, Wright
SG: Evans, Garcia, Head
PG: Nelson, Beno, Jeter

How exactly do the Nuggets recieve Balkman when they already have him?

Better put it through a trader checker, dont think it works.

I like this one for the Kings.

You sure Orlando will agree to release both Bass and Nelson for a washed up Billups though? I doubt it.

I think they might, just because half their team is washed up and on the decline, so they might as well go all-in to make a run. But at the same time, I don't know that Billups (this season) really upgrades them more than Nelson. I'd love to have Nelson here either way...

or maybe facilitate a trade between the nuggets and the Hawks.

Sac deals:
Garcia- $5.5M
Thompson- $2.1M
Landry- $3M

Sac receives:
Afflalo- $1.9M
J. Crawford- $10.8M
M. Williams- $7.2M

Pros: We get the indeftigable and superhuman Afflalo..... jk. We do get Crawford and I would imagine we would have a Sign and Trade. Otherwise, i highly doubt the Kings do this.

Cons. We would have to take on WIlliams salary. He's also another SF, so we run the risk of Westphal falling in love with him. We MIGHT have to include a pick somewhere and give to it to the Hawks or Nuggets.

Nuggets Deal:
Billups- $13.1M
Afflalo- $1.9M

Nuggets Receive:
Bibby- $5.5M
Thompson- $2.1M
Landry- $3M

Pros: The get 2 young bigs (or 1 big and 1 undersized one) and a PG at a better salary in Bibby. This would be a cost-cutting move and would signal the beginning of the post-Carmelo era.

Cons: They might still believe Carmelo will stay and they might not want to get rid of Billups until they're sure Carmelo's gone.

Hawks Deal:
Crawford- $10.8M
M. Williams- $7.2M
Bibby- $5.5M

Hawks Receive:
Billups- $13.1M
Garcia- $5.5M

Pros: Another cost-cutting maneuver. They get rid of Williams bloated salary and ship off Crawford, who will not probably get an extension in Atlanta. They get a PG that they think will propel them further into the playoffs and they get Garcia, who will (try to?) fill in the spot left by Crawford. They also have the younger Crawford to rely on and Garcia comes cheaper.

Cons: Not many, I think the Hawks would do this because they get rid of Bibby, who isn't that good, Crawford, who is a malcontent, and Williams, who's salary is much too high.

Personally, I don't know if the Kings FO would do this. They might be intrigued by Crawford, but they wouldn't want to pay him top dollar. Taking back Williams contract would also deter them. The Nuggets might be reluctant as well because they keep envisioning that Carmelo will stay and they don't want to blow up their team prematurely. Thoughts?

Billups has a giant fork sticking out of his back -- I have doubts anybody is going to give up a semi-core piece for him at this stage. If anybody did, it might be more likely we make a direct move, ship them Beno or something, and bring Chauncey in as the declining veteran mentor to dispense wisdom and teach the kids how to win etc. etc.

And while I don't mind the idea of Nelson (size aside, and hence Reke being constantly cheked by defensive stoppers) -- he can defend as well as play solid offense and provide maturity -- people have to understand that there IS no ofense to run right now. And Jameer is not the kind of guy to be able to create something out of nothing. He'd struggle too as will any player without 1 on 1 skills until we start to run some plays.

I don't know why Orlando gives up on Nelson. He's been winning games for them with big shots at the end of games.
