Nobody just "gives up" a skilled big man, unless A) That player has questionable character issues and doesn't seem to fit completely well with their current team and B) You get equal value for said big man.

Swingmen, unless a superstar (Wade, James, Anthony, Bryant, Roy, Durant) are actually quite expendable in the NBA. While we all love Kevin Martin, don't think for one second that he's THE ANSWER for the Kings. He's not. There's no rational reason to be emotionally invested in any player.

Regarding Luol Deng, he's been an effective scorer alongside ball-dominant players in his career (Rose / Gordon), and in our case, Tyreke. He rebounds and defends much better than Kevin. And simply put, we just need a slight tweak in the culture around here to bring us back to our early season mentality.

What more do you want, really? A big man? We can TRY to get that in another trade package and we sure as hell aren't going to get one via an oft-injured 2-guard. We sure as hell aren't going to get a top-tier one in Free Agency.

Only crafty trades get us a quality big man. And as much as I'd love to see it happen, I wouldn't hold my breath. We do what's best for the team talent wise and financially until we can have the ability to splurge on a big.

You bring Deng in for Martin and you still have the same problem that you had with Martin.

Sure he won't get you superstar for him but there are a number of trades you can pull with Martin that could bring you in a good big man to balance out your team. Martin alone might not bring in someone like Al Jefferson but Martin plus some sort of combination will.

Just like Mitch Richmond alone didn't bring in Chris Webber. Trading Martin for another SF or SG is just not achieving anything for us in terms of balancing out our roster and creating playing time for 2 of our most promising player outside Tyreke (Casspi and Greene)

You should actually read the trade proposal. We trade Noc and Martin and get back Deng+expirings. So it reduces the logjam by one and gets rid of the least valuable piece in Noc.

We'd still be stacking young SF's, but at that point I think Casspi or Greene becomes our chief trade chip for a big.

You're wrong, trading Martin and Noc for Deng does solve some things for us. Cuts the logjam by one, upgrades talent, and provides more cap room. it just doesn't solve everything. There's a difference, and I'm not sure the solve-everything trade is available to us.

you have some good points. in our current position we have trade options unlike previous years. our most pressing need is to move one of our SF, notably nocioni to create playing time for our young guys

So Derrick Rose, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Rondo aren't better than or as good as Kevin Martin?

Pierce and Garnett are well past the wrong side of 30, so yes I stand by that. And I would HATE to pair Tyreke with either Rondo or Rose in the backcourt. So YES I stand by that statement that Noah is the only one worth trading Martin for.

WTF. TT is basically a back up PF. He's playing behind rookie who was 26th pick. I would do this trade because we get to dump Noc's contract and Deng is better all around player than Kevin. Deng's contract is a year longer, but than he's like 2 years younger than kevin.

You know he's a SF right? He's a jumpshooting SF who's a good defender and a great rebounder for a SF. I'm not sure how that qualifies
him as "soft".

Point being that Chicago doesn't do the deal with Thomas because their carrot in this deal is trading Deng and Hinrich for cap space to go after Lebron, Wade, and/or Bosh. Talking about Tyrus is pointless.

Thomas has been very inconsistant thus far in his career. He'll have one or two good games and then just disappear for the next five. Also Thomas is a PF, and a slightly undersized one. Deng is a SF, and a very good defender. And as a jumpshooter, he seldom shoots three pointers, averaging just slightly over one per game. So he more of a midrange jumpshooter.

Also as stated, the Bulls are looking to shed salary and since Thomas is an expiring they have little interest in ridding themselves of his salary.

I think he's a nice target for free agency next year as a guy who could get lost in the big market and had for a bargain....but the Bulls aren't going to trade him before then to take on salary.
