Bet your house on it

I'd say it's a business thing, not a Sac thing... Doesn't mean he won't stay. Just looking for higher bids and see if we step up and match;

"The weather’s beautiful in Sacramento," said Artest, who also told the Detroit Free Press he wouldn't rule out becoming a Piston. "The team I’m playing with is good. With Kevin Martin, it's a great opportunity to play with an up and coming star. He’s capable of carrying us to a championship, along with myself and other players also. I’m in a great opportunity right now in Sacramento."

No biggie. Just talking it up cause he knows he's under paid. Question is who in the league has the cap for him AND have personel strong enough to manage him? Not many.

Another reason I don't like him. Never have, never will.
Oh please, give me a break. I think people are misinterprating (i know i spelled it wrong) what he is saying here.

IMHO he is just saying that everyone is just assuming that he will opt out and that if they want to bet their houses on it then they can but nothing is set in stone.

Once again, Ron Artest opens his mouth and nonsense comes out. Anyone who bets their house - or even a diet soda - on anything he says needs to have their heads examined. This is another non-story, IMHO, since Artest may have actually changed his mind before this even got to Amick's blog.

The only situation that would make any sense is if he opted out and resigned with the Kings. This assumes that money actually means something to him or his wife or his daughter. His daughter's care can't be free.

Don't he his wife and daughter live in Indianapolis? I am not saying that is the motivation for wanting to opt out 'cause I doubt Indiana would want him back, just that being near them may have triggered this line of thought.

Ron appears to have a direct connection from his brain to his mouth with no monitoring system in between to filter out the garbage,

If Ron opts out...what teams have enough cap room to offer him anything signifigantly better than the MLE?

If Ron opts outand signs elsewhere...wont he lose his Bird Rights?

If we were to trade Ron this season to a non-NY team (Miami, LA, etc) couldn't he still opt-out in the off season and sign with NY for the MLE?

If Ron truly wants to play at MSG next year and money is not the issue for him..why would the Knicks offer a package of youngsters to get him, when they can just sign him in the offseason?

One of two thing is going to happen this offseason...
Ron is going to test the market and eventually sign a new contract with Sacramento...or
He is going to walk for nothing and sign with the Knicks

That pretty much covers it in one nice little package.

Whether or not Ron's word is worth more than the half-rubbed eraser on the end of my pencil is not the issue.

We can't assume that his comments were seen only by people in the Sacramento area, and now a player who (I'm guessing) was already difficult to trade just announced that he'll be opting out of his contract. Who's going to want to give us anything of value for the half season rental of a player who's bat **** crazy?

who cares .. let him opt out, i rather have him leave for nothing then get a longer contract of a player probly worse than him, we cant and wont get anything good for him because hes playing in new york next year no matter what.

ehh

I don't understand why some of you get so upset over this. Anyone in his situation would opt out. Let's not play the "How dare he say that" card. We are luck to have someone with his talent. Most of you turned on Webber and wanted him traded. How'd that work out? You can't just give away talent.

Maybe I misread the article but he really didn’t say that he was going to opt out. "You know, I guess everybody assumes (I'm going to opt out)," he said. "If you're going to bet your house on it, then bet that I'm going to opt out. But that time will come later. We'll see what happens."…But he did say he wants that ring. So if that’s the case, he might opt out (which I was sure he was going to do anyways) but if he’s thinking about playing for N.Y or the Pacers, well, they’re really not championship material.

It doesn’t matter if he wants to opt out, I just want Geoff to pull a trade for this guy asap. He just doesn’t fit in.

I don't think the "bat **** crazy" part is a secret or anything... There is a small chance that this comment could facilitate a sign-and-trade to our benefit, since we do have his Bird rights.

since we do have his Bird rights.

Not yet. He has to play another season with us either by letting his present contract run out or by opting out and having the Kings resign him. I guess that's why you mentioned the sign and trade. A sign and trade is the best deal for Artest and as long as we hold out for a player of similar quality, it is the best for the Kings. Otherwise, if he opts out, we can leave him twisting in the financial wind.

Not sure he thinks that far ahead.

Oops. I stand corrected...

:o

Thanks for the clarification.

If Ron text messages all of his teammates saying that he's retiring... won't everyone think that he's emotionally unstable?

If Ron says that he wants time off basketball to focus on making music, an area where he has little talent... will he accomplish anything more than to ruin a lucrative NBA career?

This is RonRon we're talking about. If he wants to opt out, he will. It doesn't matter whether it makes any sense.
