Belinelli signs with the Kings 3 years 19mil

Like that we didn't let the Matthews thing sit around and stink either. Immediately had a backup plan on speed dial to get done before Rondo comes to town for his meeting.

Beverly keeps making sense. If you have a poor defending shooter backing up one guard spot, an elite defender at the other spot sure helps balance the bench back court. If you get those two, Josh Smith as a scoring bench big also works.

Edit - Like this signing, should have lead with that.

As the self-proclaimed jerseyologist of KingsFans.com, I see that Belinelli has previously worn jersey numbers 18, 8 and 3. So, what do we suppose he'll wear for Sacramento?

1883?

You never see enough 4 digit jersey numbers in the league. And yet as jersey retirements continue they'll have to come about one day in a few hundred years. Let's NBA 3.0 it and get ahead of that curve.

But Marco will actually TAKE and MAKE his shots and not curl up in the fetal position

I agree. But you really think Nik won't improve after his rookie season? From my humble point of view Belinelli is very mediocre. And I think giving an mediocre SG/SF over 6 mil/year is the overpaying I was afraid of.

Yes!!!!!! Grande Beli!!! So happy to have him with the Kings. I started to follow him when he was 16 and he started to play for my favourite Italian team, Virtus Bologna. He's a true professional, and the kind of person we need.

I need to get his jersey asap.

We just signed what would be Nik Stauskas absolute ceiling and get him in his prime. Good signing.

Was just about to post this. Beli is exactly what we're hoping Nik would turn into. Smart player and is one of the best 3pt shooters in the NBA. Add in the fact he's comes from the best culture in the NBA, in his prime at 28 and locked in at a reasonable 6.5mil/year, this is a great start.

Beverly, Koufos and Casspi now and we leave this FA as major winners and hell of a lot better

I understand wanting to be weary of throwing out bad contracts. but this is not one of them. We can't be so resistant to change, especially if it is in regards to Landry, Thompson, and Nik. What we've been doing has not been working. We signed someone who can actually do what he is billed to be - a 3 pt marksmen with high IQ. We need both.

Actually I'm only resistant when it comes to Nik. ;)
I will be interesting, who comes out ahead next season - Nik or Marco. Still think Nik will be a very nice player in the short term future. But I have been wrong countless times.

This signing could benefit Ben the most. A veteran pro marksman, not competing with another kid, he can learn a lot while knowing if he doesnt perform Belinelli is ready to step in.

Good.

As I was thinking yesterday while Matthews was considering our offer, if it fell through my two backcourt targets were Rondo and Marco, still legit FA options.

I'm more than willing to run out a Rondo/Marco backcourt, DC/Ben off the bench.

I don't think Nik is any good. Didn't think so when we drafted him and dont think so now and do not think he will in the future.

We drafted the guy for shooting. Those type of players don't need time to develop. Either you got it or you don't. And stauskas didn't.

Edit. Nik could have been terrible at everything else but if he shot 39-40% from 3pt then I would have been ok with keeping him.

Wrong. If anything, this deal is slightly below market value. I mean, freaking Aron Baynes got more than Belinelli.

It's a good start with the cap space. Hope we don't mess it up with Rondo.

This is a very, very solid signing. Very reasonable money also considering the cap going up.

Belinelli can start if Ben doesn't make strides and be very solid, and off the bench he's a good shooter with a solid all around game. Thumbs up for Vlade on this one. Good start.

Nik might be good, but he is still a kid in every sense. Still thinks he is in college. Bellinelli is a professional grown man who has been through many battles. Ditto with Anderson signing from yesterday, he may not be the most talented, but any player who goes to Europe and earns his way back into the league has been through stuff. Look at someone like PJ Tucker.

I'm still against the Rondo signing. He basically kills 2 teams in a season, then get rewarded with a 10M/year contract and starting position over Darren Collison, a complete class act.

Just rubs me the wrong way..

Um, you do realize it was Marco Belinelli we signed and NOT Rondo, right?

He's arguably the top SG left on the market and I'd say is capable of doing more than he's shown with SA due to their system.

One of the league's top off the ball shooters, can handle and set up the offense, can free himself up off 1-2 dribbles for a shot, good passer, intelligent, and a scrappy defender with some size. This really comes as close to checking all the boxes as is possible in a SG when looking at current options, and we got it relatively cheap while crazy money is flying all over the place.

But I disagree with you on Rondo and would also say Marco is a very good fit next to him.

For those guys who are worried about Bellinelli's defense.....at that contract, we are not going to get a complete player who can play both sides of the ball at a high level. Real happy for what he brings to the team. Rondo or Beverly or Koufos would be great.....but there's others out there that can help as well

If you think this is an overpay I don't think you've been paying attention to what is happening.

By year 3 this will be a great bargain. I think it is right now. Maybe slight overpay, but nothing to freak out about.

I mean, good for the spurs they paid him 3 or whatever. We're not the spurs. Maybe you hadn't noticed, but we play by different rules. The Vivek Ranadive incompetence tax is not cheap right now.

Yea.. from the way everyone is discussing the PG need, Rondo appears to be the de facto selection. Personally I'd rather have a Jeremy Lin/CJ Watson type at a fraction of the cost.
