Bee: Kings make offer to Wells...

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/41277/20060703/wells_pacers_have_mutual_interest/

The Pacers love Bonzi, and Bonzi loves the Pacers...

simple as that

Not simple at all.

Why?

Nothing was said about money and the quality of the Pacers. Just about coming home, nothing about Sac, nothing about the Kings, nothing about what they can offer. We can and already have offered more than the MLE, which is all the Pacers can offer, and a questionable team quality.

If we lose him, we still have promising SG Kevin Martin to fall back on and start.

either way, I'm fine.

Um, Artest guards whoever is the best wing player on the floor. It isn't always an SG. Jesus, man...

But to comment on Kevin guarding SFs, Kevin can stay with a number of SFs because of his height, length, and quickness. Weight would be the only problem in certain cases.

Only thing with that (losing Bonzi), is we'd have to get a veteran wingman to replace Bonzi's experience as a 2nd/3rd man off the bench. Since we can't just have Artest and 3 young guys, need some more experience in there, somewhere on the roster. Especially since we'll likely make the playoffs.

This looks like typical agent-speak to me.

I refuse to get drawn into the drama. If Bonzi wants to leave here to go to Indiana, he'll go. If he wants to stay here, where he totally rehabilitated his reputation and was embraced by 17,317 screaming adoring fans, he'll stay.

I am pretty sure the Maloofs have told Petrie to be fair. If he makes a bona fide offer and someone else betters it, it's Bonzi's choice. At this point, I don't see the Pacers even being in the running in the East next year and I don't think Bonzi wants to end up on a team that doesn't play past mid-April.

Again, however, what will be, will be.

:)

i have a question. say, GP offered bonzi 7mil...but pacers offered 8mil(just saying). can GP make another higher offer?

Pacers can't. They can only offer the MLE aka 5.4 million over 5 years at the most. We offered over the MLE.

We could go above 8 mill, yes, but 9 is the most I would go... at 5, and not 6.

Ok what about the Euro PG instead of Johnson? Is that any better?

Well I don't even want Bonzi in the first place. I've had enough of troublemakers / potential troublemakers.

But giving up a good center prospect for another guy who could blow up in our faces similar to how Artest did would just be crazy.

Bonzi isn't nuts anymore, he's proved that since leaving Portland. The stuff with Fratello was all Fratello, and over mis-utilization and minutes. Which Bonzi didn't deserve. Just ask Bobby Jackson, who also had utilization problems and with the way he coached. He said he understood what Bonzi went through.

SIG - I can understand you calling Artest names on your board. Around here, however, he's done NOTHING to earn the disrespect. And, as Kings113 has pointed out above, neither has Bonzi Wells.

Well first of all the Pacers CAN't make a 7 mill offer they can't go above MLE. A fewteams could (not many) and the Kings ARE able to go above the MLE and in theory could match any offer Bonzi is likely to get, but teh Kings bigest advantage is not in cap room it is in their ablity to offer a 6 year contract. (NOTE I am NOT necessarly advocating FOR a 6 year deal for Bonzi, just pointing out the facts) so one are of flexablity the Kings have is to counter a 5 year 30 mill deal with a 6 year 35 million deal thusly giviing Bonzi MORE net money, and more security while retaining more cash on the anual basis.

Likely enough, once we get past all the agent posturing the curent Kings offer is probably clsoe to a 5 year 30 million offer anyway and Bonzi'speople are trying to GET a formal offer for more so they can have a counter offer for 6 years taken seriously by the Kings. I am not sure what team will want to make a 5 year 35 million dollare offer for Bonzi but you never know.

I'm sure that more than a few already have, let alone would be willing to. Bonzi's a starting OG, and the best one on the market. But in order for those offers to matter, Bonzi has to come to us and say I want to play for x, let's work out a sign and trade, rather than just coming back to us and saying "beat this offer".

While some teams probably are making provisional offers the key there is that they not nly have to perusade Bonzi to leave but ALSO have a pice or tow to trade that the Kings need. Could very well happen but will not happen quick and in in acase is compleetly removed fromthe question at ahnad aobut offers teams can make Bonzi.

Can't be 5 year 30 million, that's not above the MLE, right? Cause we offered above the MLE.

Pacers offered 5 year 35 million.

5/30 was a ballpark guess. If the pacers are interested their offer might well be 5/35 that would be about the most logical cash offer a team near cap would make but I am not sure the Pacer CAN offer above MLE so I kid of question the numbers. If it is accurate that takes it back to the Kings to match or beat... not to hard in this case.

Well, it was reported by ESPN 950 they did offer the MLE at 5 years 35 million. They can't offer more than the MLE. We, first, offered above the MLE.

I think at the most, 40-45 million over 5 years is fair.

MLE is reported to be just over 5 million per year so 35 million would be over MLE by quite a bit... I am always a little skeptical of reported offers as the info usually comes from agents trying to pum up their clients value.

My guess is he goes to the Pacers, provided they offer him a good deal. He'll want to finish off his career in Indy.

But don't forget the increses in salary every year. I am not sure but there is a 6% or 8% increase per year.

Yeah I understaind that there are percentage increases but we are talking 10 million dollars over 5 years here.

Well its nice to see some teams losing cap space by signing players but we still have a big competition.

Indiana? Maybe, hometown, JO, but team quality is in question. They can't offer as much as us, and we've already offered more.

Hornets? I don't think so with Peja/Bobby/Chander on board now. Not sure how he'd like Byron Scott's coaching style, either. Would have to move again.

Denver? Gotta be kidding me. They have so many holes and questions it's ridiculous. Doesn't like the high air altitude also. Would have to move again. Just signed Nene to a 60 6 year deal.

Chicago? Plenty of swingmen and just sign Ben Wallace for 60 million over 4 years. would have to move again.

Detroit? Focusing on getting a center... and he'd be off the bench anyways. Would have to move around again too. Team quality is in question, as well.

Raps? They have PJ Tucker (similar player to Bonzi)/Graham/Mo Pete/Barg at the wing spots. would have to move again.

Think you gotta toss that "got to move again" thing out the window. Essence of free agency, and he was only a 1 yr tourist in Sac.

One that you missed:

Sac? Team in transition, new coach, crowded backcourt, minutes may be issue, perhaps due to stadium issues, owners have become tax averse.

Our edge is money and the ability to match.
