Bee: Kings make offer to Wells...

Think you gotta toss that "got to move again" thing about the window. Essence of free agency, and he was only a 1 yr tourist in Sac.

One that you missed:

Sac? Team in transition, new coach, crowded backcourt, minutes may be issue, perhaps due to stadium issues, owners have become tax averse.

Our edge is money and the ability to match.
Thats if we truly want to match. We all seem to be forgetting that Maloofs are allergic to luxury tax.

No team in the league wants to be a tax team, but the Maloofs have said they will if it makes a difference. Last year they weren't willing to be and they dumped Skinner. But it really didn't matter becaue Rick never played him.

OK guys, this bit from the article has bugger all to do with the Kings but this bit raised my interest.

Despite Chandler's uneven play, he is well regarded, especially in the Western Conference, and the Bulls have gotten feelers for deals regarding Troy Murphy of Golden State, Marcus Camby of Denver and Carlos Boozer of Utah.

Does this mean that Camby might be available???? If so, can anyone say "Sign and Trade" ;)

That paragraph comes from here

Here are the different scenerios:

If Bonzi would rather play for the Pacers, the next question is will he play for less money. If the answer is yes and yes, then he signs with the Pacers. Highly unlikely.

If Bonzi would rather play for the Pacers, but the Kings are offering more, then it is up to the Pacers to say yes we'll pay that, and then the Kings and Pacers would do a sign and trade. Of course the Kings could refuse which might make Bonzi mad and then he might accept the Pacers MLE

Bonzi might eventually decide to stay with the Kings for the money being offered and it is all done.

Then of course you have other teams interested.

If I'm a Kings fan I'd either want to re-sign Bonzi or do a sign and trade wioth the Pacers for Foster and AJ.

Camby maybe being available for Camby Jr. is not the same thing as Camby just generally being available for what we have to offer.

I noted more which team's guys were NOT listed there, and again was not amused.

But a team, that is quite likely to make the playoffs, and will have a good nucleus. Bibby/Wells/Artest/Martin/maybe Brad Miller/SAR/Garcia/Douby/defensive big or two. Especially when we get some interior defense (can't just judge on 3 or 4 days the off-season, as there is still the whole summer and trades and still FAs left). Looks nice to me. Minutes wouldn't be an issue because he'd be a starter here. Pacers have a lot more questions than us. Disagree on "moving again", he's emphasized that 2 or 3 times when talking about FA, and said he just wants a home, and would love it to be Sac. If the Maloofs live up to what they said about Bonzi being a priority, then he'll be back.

Just don't see, how outside of Indiana because it's his home state and has JO on there, we don't have the overall advantage right now. When we've already offered over the MLE.

Be surprised if Bonzi's gone, but not terribly disappointed.

It's time like this you wish the Kings had a bonafide leader. That leader needs to make a phone call to Bonzi and say "we want you here." When Bonzi is hanging out with JO in Indiana, you wonder how many personal calls he has received in recent days from Mike, Ron, and Brad.

If I had to guess, Musselman has called Bonzi...he's just that thorough. I'm not counting on Brad to do anything...although it would be nice if he could drive from Kendalville to Muncie to show his support. Mike and Ron...that's to be debated.

Dear Mike, Ron, and Brad (if you can be reached in the middle of nowhere with a fishing pole in Kendalville, IN),

Rebounding is key. You want second chance opportunities? You want an inside presence to free you up for the top of the key jumpers and corner threes? You want a championship? DON'T LET SOMEONE ELSE FROM ANOTHER TEAM WINE AND DINE YOUR BEST PLAYER IN THE PLAYOFF WITHOUT AT LEAST PICKING UP THE PHONE AND/OR BUY HIM DINNER. If you hear JO hanging out with Bonzi, that should make you sick to your stomach and do something about it.

Sincerely,
A concerned fan

Actually a solid point, but I would caution that we really don't know who has or hasn't called Bonzi for us.

Nonetheless, Ron is as always a queer duck as a leader. Good at the oncourt stuff and clearly inspired us last year, but would seem to be a long way from the smooth, professional, mature leader type comfortable with making those sorts of pitches. Get the feeling he would rather hang out and the practice court and play thna deal with the social aspects.

Ron already said he wanted Bonzi back, back in May... as well as Adelman, but he's already expressed that he's cool with Musselman and likes his style.

Ron hasn't really been around that long to call Bonzi, probably just getting back a couple days ago. Be nice if he did do that.

IF Bonzi wants to go play for the Pacers so bad, and return to his hometown, and I read Al Harrington is leaving the Hawks, and the Pacers have interest in signing him, how about a 3-team deal in which we land Al Harrington?

That way the Hawks get something, instead of losing a talented player for nothing, the Pacers get their man, instead of a revisit to the past by signing a former player, and we get a younger, more versatile scorer to put along side Ron Artest.

Al Harrington is one of the best unheralded players in the league. He has been a pernnial loser, but the guy can flat-out play. He has wicked skillz on the post. His size and talent level cause fits for opponents....and he is a real competitor entering his prime.

If Bonzi is not going to sign with us, Geoff Petrie HAS do something like this so our talent base is not depleted again with good players leaving for nothing!

It doesn't look why we are getting Pryzbilla when he would be a perfect fit for what we need...maybe Coach Musselman has a league reputation (deserved or not) around the league as a hard-headed guy no one wants to play for....at least not anyones #1 choice as a coach.

It is too early to draw those conclusions but let's just hope we are not left with FA scraps and our biggest off-season move was losing our best playoff performer so that....whopee....Kevin Martin gets more playing time.

^And, as a bonus, we could give the Knicks a run for their money and surpass them as the team with the most tweener forwards.

Kings:
Al Harrington
SAR
Kenny Thomas
Corliss Williamson

Knicks:
Mo Taylor
Malik Rose
David Lee

Any time you're in a contest with Isiah Thomas you might want to rethink your plan.

Bonzi HIMSELF hasn't said a thing about wanting to play for the Pacers. The only thing Bonzi has said - repeatedly - is that he's tired of moving around, he feels like he's found a home in Sacramento with the Kings, and he hopes a deal can be worked out.

What Bonzi's agent has said is typical agent-speak for a person who is trying to secure his client the best possible deal. The chances are still pretty high that best deal will, in fact, come from the Kings.

lol so true so funny

In the end we will see if this is all about money. Even though we can pay him the most I doubt we will. In this what I consider a pretty slim FA market it is going to be hard to compete.

If he isn't about every penny and truly wants to stay here, then he will take a fair / above average from us. Otherwise I see him gone.

Well, there are trades too. which is where Geoff has done most of his work over the last 4-5 years.

Not really any quality big FAs left, but there are back-up-types or border-line starters left for bigs. Mike James and Marcus Banks are left for PGs.

As much as I love Bonzi, I don't think it would be such a bad thing if he signs elsewhere. People forget how well we played when Bonzi was out with his injury. When Martin stepped in, there was a nice flow to the offense and the defense wasn't too shabby either (this was mostly at Arco though, ofcourse).

Then look how we played when he came back on that eastern conference road trip where we went 4-1. He was playing starters minutes from the Bucks game on. Garcia got hurt in Cleveland, Bozni stepped up, played 18-19 minutes in Atlanta (before Milwaukee).

You can go both ways, because both were damn good.

Obviously it would be great to retain Bonzi. Artest and Bonzi together is a tough combo for any team to handle, as evidenced in the Spurs series. However, I don't exactly think we're dead in the water if we end up losing him. It might actually improve our offence.

If the Kings don't re-sign Bonzi, that money better go elsewhere. Preferably a big man. Bonzi would be my first choice, but if for whatever reason he doesn't return, I don't want to see that money just sit to stay under the tax.

What money? We're still over the salary cap. If we don't resign Bonzi using his Bird rights, all we have to use is the MLE.

Yeah, I can go either way. If we lose Bonzi, that sucks, I would of definitely liked to keep him. But, we have Kevin to fall back on to start and is promising. Only thing with that, is we'd have to get a veteran wingman to replace Bonzi's experience as a 2nd/3rd man off the bench. Since we can't just have Artest and 3 young guys, need some more experience in there, somewhere on the roster. Especially since we'll likely make the playoffs.

You know, well first I still want Bonzi back, but earlier today I was watching tape from when Bonzi was out and I was amazed at how good Cisco and Martin are! Especially together! They have the chance to be very good players. I hope that if Bonzi is retained that it doesn't mean Cisco gets zero court time.

In a lot of the games Cisco was playing minutes at the back up PG and he did an amazing job on both ends of the floor. Cisco could become a defensive player of the year candidate somewhere down the line if he gets the opprotunity. And his playmaking is just incredible.

The same thing KingKong mentioned is the same thing I was thinking while I was watching it.

I think people are forgetting that you need a blend of veterans and youngsters to have a good team. I fully expect Cisco, Martin and even Douby - if he works out - to get minutes behind Bibby, Bonzi and Ron. I honestly don't see Cisco dropping to the end of the bench simply if we retain Bonzi.

Not sure if this has been talked about, but what are people's thoughts on a signing Bonzi and then shipping him and KT to Detroit for Rasheed. Sheed would instantly give us someone who can defend the post and play with his back to the basket, but then there are a ton of other issues to go along with his positives.
