Are you saying YOU are the only one that gets it, with a few other that agree with YOU? I'm just trying to understand.

exactly. people on this board want to think its a rivalry. some have even typed the word rivalry in big bold letters. as if the emphasis of the size of the 18 point font would make a difference. but all i do is state the facts.

UNBELIEVABLE!

All you need to do is listen to the players themselves and look at the recent activity on this board by all the Laker fans.

The rivalry is diminished, but all signs point to it still being there to a certain extent.

And yes, it does still live on with the fans.

It will be back if both teams are good at the same time and play eachother in the playoffs.

You are absolutley NOT stating facts. You are stating your feelings about the two teams, same as everybody else. Fandom has nothing to do with facts and everything to do with emotions. I didn't asy you cared about baseball, I just pointed out a sports "rivalry" of long-standing, that exists always, regardless of if one team sucks for years and years. So how do your "facts" explain that?

There isnt a rivalry until the Kings beat the Lakers. Just like in baseball with the Yankees and Sox, it wasnt a rivalry until 2004. We still have yet to beat LA in anything meaningful, so it still cant be considered a rivalry, except for in the eyes of a few Kings fans that jumped on board during the Vlade/Webber years.

edit: Celtics-Lakers in the 80's= rivalry

I have to disagree, it was a rivalry back when we played in the Playoffs, even though the Lakers beat the Kings. The Kings were the only team that had a chance to beat the Lakers and I knew that and the rest of the Laker fans knew that. That is why those games were so good. Whoever won the series would win the championship and it happened to be the Lakers but the kings were the 2nd best team in the NBA for a couple of years.

In order to make this a true rivalry, the Kings will need to exorcise the demons known as the Los Angeles Lakers. When they do(hopefully sometime in my lifetime, and while Kobe is still on that team)THEN is when it becomes a TRUE rivalry.

If they keep ron or get something for him, get 1 big name free agent (a PF like Brand) and get another solid player through the draft they can in the next year or 2. The thing about the west is that there are 3 teams in the Lakers, Hornets, and Blazers that look like they will be good for the next 6 or 7 years and the other teams are getting older, so the Kings are young but need 1 more all star type player IMO.

Almost everyone agrees that the Kings-Lakers rivalry is not what it was for about 5 years in its heyday. But it was a rivalry before even that and continues at a fever pitch today - even if it's mostly Kings fans still on the bandwagon.

Interestingly, starting last season there's a growing rivalry between the Bay Area and Sactown - Kings v. Warriors brewing big time!

The rivalry is dead to the players? Tell that to Kobe Bryant, who was taunting the crowd in the fourth quarter, and obnoxiously flinging his jersey during the final timeout of the game to pee off the fans. And the need to bring up the "cheeseburger" during every interview he ever gives before, during, and after a game against the Kings. The rivalry is there, and not just to the fans.

You could feel it from the opening tip, with Miller laying out Gasol and Fisher in the first quarter, and the intensity that ensued. Kobe was getting in Moore's face. Pau was flailing punches like a little girl. There's enough bad blood between the players, and not just the fans, to constitute a rivalry.

And when did it become a requirement that a team needs to defeat another team in the playoffs for the "rivalry" to be satisfied. We took them to a decisive game 5 in 2000, and a decisive game 7 in the 2002 WCF (asterisk). There was a fight in almost every game during the series. There was a major fight when Christie pounded Fox... twice... the next season. Yea, we never won a series, but you're blinding yourself if you think there was no rivalry.

It has lost steam, but it will never go away. And it's not just among Kings fans, either. I got 11 text messages last night between 9:30 and 10 pm from Laker fans, ranging from "some things never change" to "this looks familiar" to "scoreboard, byatch!", etc. etc. As much as you laker fans may try to hide it and remain on your high horse, you guys still hate us, we still hate you, and I wouldn't have it any other way. =)

Just out of curiousity, do you think Red Sox fans shouldn't have felt they had a "real" rivalry for all the many, many years when they sucked and were not competitive with NY? Would you try and convince a Boston fan there was no rivalry at all and they had no reason to hate the NY? Good luck with that.

Bingo! Point made.

Sure thing. We'll just either keep the ultra-disruptive nut, or trade a guy who cannot bring you back Linas Kleiza straight up for an equal talent. then we will go sign an All-Star player for our MLE. Not, mind you, that Elton Brand has ever been ouot of the first round of the playoffs are will ever sniff a title.

Why do I not feel confidence.

Don't the Kings have a bunch of money with the bibby trade and Ron expiring? And the Clippers took the Suns to 7 games in the second round of the playoffs the year before last.

On tv it sounded like half the fans were routing for the Lakers. At least the "MVP" chant was VERY loud.
Yeah, I heard that too, but that was only because it was the end of the game and all our fans had left the building due to a double digit deficit, unfortunately.

Like I said, it is only a rivalry to Kings fans.

That's a load of manure.

Denying a rivalry is always just the pinnacle of rivalry behavior -- the ultimate insult. You are not even worth our time. But the mere fact that they care enough to care proves the rivalry right there. Its all over every Lakers board, in every Lakers taunt, in every swarm of trolls we get (and yes we were blocking them left and right yesterday). By the very act of caring the Laekrs fans have always proven the rivalry. The day they cease caring . The day they don't take extra pleasure in beating us, or taunting us. That will be the day when the "its not a rivalrly" stuff is anything except hot air.

Not this year...2 years from now we'll have a little money to spend on someone. All the Bibby trade did was keep us below the luxury threshold for next season, due to the Kevin Martin contract kicking in next year. If Ron opts out, thats a different story, though.

The Lakers fans were very loud all game long. I cannot have been the only person to notice that the cheering was almost as loud no matter whicih team scored the basket. Ditto booing of the refs on close calls etc. There were a LOT of Lakers fans in attendance. Nice to see that for most of the night the Kings fans rather intentionally drowned them out. But this was more like an intense March Madness arena atmosphere with partisans of both teams screaming all game than a one-sided home court advantage.

Ron's contract doesn't expire until after next season. He can opt out of the last year this summer, if he wants. Bibby's trade isn't going to help much this off-season, alhto it will be easier to sign Udrih to a new contract.

I agree, Rock. And I did hear that there were concentrated areas where LOTS of Laker fans were seated together. That could explain why the chanting seemed louder on TV than it actually was.

You are not the only one. I have many posts stating that I was at the game and the Kings fans were just as LOUD as the Laker fans.

some laker fans make fun of the kings. they taunt. and kobe might have taunted last night. but dont get that confused with what a rivalry really is. i used to taunt dallas fans after we knocked the crap out of them. becuase they stunk and were not worthy of being on the same floor as webber and bibby. i wasted my time trash talking because it was fun. what else are you supposed to do on a message board? play spaids and discuss how to make paper footballs. the laker fans dont care. what is there to care about. we've never taken anything from them. they make fun of us because its fun, its the internet

Whatever, tyrant. You can argue and you can try and disprove all you like. We get it. YOU don't think there's a rivalry. And your thinking that still doesn't change the mind of all those who disagree.

Your explanation just proves Brick's point. If someone truly doesn't care, then they don't pay any attention to it, not even negative attention. They don't care. Personally, I see no reason to taunt or put down a team that's way beneath us. Where's the fun in that, unless it is a rivalry? That's just a waste of time ala beating a dead horse.
