Bagley not in opening night rotation

The discussion centered around how much practice time Marvin was really putting in and that is why he was on the bench.

Reality is, when the coach is going with an 8 man rotation and tells Marvin, he's not in the rotation, that's a hard place to climb out of. 8 man rotation is going to leave some very capable players on the bench for any NBA team.

This is something I've disagreed with in Basketball coaching for a long-time - the 7 or 8 man rotation - there are several benefits to extending the bench....to at least 10 if not more. one main way a player is to improve is to play someone better than himself anyway. Maybe its early in the season; at least Walton looks to be playing 10. Still, I'd like to see Bagley in to see whats what. If he's awful, tug the leash.

I actually thought not playing Bagley for the last two minutes was Luke being respectful to him. He's a third year player, who started last year, and coming in for mop-up duties is probably not the way he wants to contribute. I expect we will see Bagley get some minutes that aren't in a mop-up role sometime soon .

This is what I was thinking too.

I actually thought so too. I have been advocating minutes for Bagley, but my main concern with buying minutes for him is, whose expense will they come at?

I would like to see Barnes' load decrease a bit, and perhaps some of Moe's minutes can be reduced. Bagley could potentially play some 4 in our 3 guard lineups for that. The issue is that Moe has a role, and while he can take the open outside shot, we won't be running offense for him. If Bagley is out there, he needs to get touches near the basket. That could be okay if we can have an inside/outside game, particularly with Buddy and Off Night bombing away, but he has to move the ball, be able to pass outside instead of forcing a bad shot, and consistently punish his defender if he gets deep position. Playing some defense would also help :-)
