Back-up Point?

Carolija...I did say we won't be able to get him (which has basically been proven since the spring). Right above your post. ;)

The reason I posted that (what you quoted) is because of some calling James overrated (not reasons why we should get him, I didn't say that in the post). Which I believe he is not, and posted why I think that based on what I've seen and read of him over time.

out of curiosity, would people here rather have mike bibby or brevin knight? assuming of course that everything else stays the same.

For starting PG? Bibby.

Knight I'm split on for starting (anywhere, especially here though) because of his injuries, and lack of a jumpshot. Love his slashing/passing/defense though. I think he's more suited to being a back-up now in most cases. Starting on a team with Kobe/Ray/Dirk/T-Mac or 1/2 quality shooters, should work.

Kinght will only start ona team that is forced to take a risk, but if he is willing to play back up he is probably the BEST BU PG available. Wheeling and dealing for a new big man may yeild a PG as part of the trade, but in the end it is a simple matter of priorities as Petrie sees them. I have no idea what goes on in his head, honestly I never have seen things he does and that is probably a good thing for the Kings. But as I see it top priority is getting a new Big man which will not be easy. Any FA will have to be had via sign and trade, and deals for guys under contract are always time consuming unless they include first round picks. AFTER the Big I see sigining an experienced and realiable PG as priority number 2. After that will be filling in holes that may be created by the process of steps one and two. With luck resinging Bonzi can be done in the process, but IF the Kings want a top big man Bonzi might be the guy they have to dangle in the deal. ON the otherhand if a FA can be had for cash letting Bonzi walk might also be necessary but I hope not.

But in the end I do not see any of the Kings problems being solved by a #19 pick, I could be wrong but I suspect the pick will probably be big man/project. With Hart and Price both under contract and a servicable number two PG yet to be had I jsut dont see a gaurd as practical.

Shame I'm not on my regular comp. yet, could show a bunch of other opinions I found on him .

Well, I am now, and to follow-up on that, here's this about his defense:

"James was actually a pretty good defender when he was down here in Miami, and as a backup in Detroit. Didn't get to see him in Houston or Toronto much, but yeah, he was pretty good defensively actually, and has played under some great defensive coaches (Pat Riley, Larry Brown, Jeff Van Gundy)"

"I haven't seen James in Toronto, but he was a stud defender in Miami and Detroit for sure. Not sure why one measley vote for the guy is an issue."

"Mike James is a pretty good defender...He has shown signs of it."

"Mike James is a solid perimeter defender, people seem to overlook that since the team itself is pretty weak defensively."

"I actually think Mike James is a good defender at the PG spot. He's been great ever since he wa sin Detroit, from what I've seen."

"Actually Mike james is a very solid defensive PG. under JVG he was our second or third most valuable defensive rotation player."
