back to back ROYs?

Has a team ever had back to back rookies of the year? If we luck out and get John Wall or Evan Turner crazy to think if John Wall avgs 18pts 4rebs 6asts and Kings fans wonder if he will get the shaft because we are Sacramento and back to back.

I honestly wont care about the award next year. I feel so drained from arguing with everyone about whether or not Evans will get it. Just give Evans his award already and be done with it.

I was just thinking about the possibilities of back to back ROY's. That would be cool, but please let's not start talking about getting shafted out of the award before we even draft...or start the season.

Only tangentially related... but when I think of back-to-back rookie of the year awards I automatically think of the A's winning it three years in a row with Cansucko (sorry, couldn't resist), Mark McGwire, and Walt Weiss. The A's have made a habit of winning ROY awards and then trading those players for awhile now. They also had back-to-backs more recently with Bobby Crosby and Huston Street but neither of them turned out all that well. But anyway, yeah, only tangentially related. Back to the Kings, I don't think they're going to be trading Evans so there's nothing to worry about there. Back to back wins would be pretty cool for sure. Especially if it leads to championships in the near future. :) But that's a lot of unhatched eggs to be counting now.

Canseco may have sucked, but his roids were pretty awesome those first few years after he came up. :p I was an A's fan at the time. I remember he was the first roid monster to murder one into the 5th deck at Skydome in the '89 ALCS -- not only into the 5th deck, but damn near over it. Think they estimated it was a 480 footer. Big ole Dave Parker was on that team in his last year and the expression on his face was priceless -- he came form the pre-roids era and I'm sure he was thinking I weigh 250lbs and I never hit anything like that.

As an aside, as to the thread topic: we gotta get the first one first. That's all I care about at the moment. Let's wrap up this year's business, then we can move on.

Feels like it happened pretty recently in the NBA

(few seconds later)

Guess it hasn't happened since the 70's. I must have been thinking of when I thought Oden would win it. That would have made him back to back with Roy.

No, you're right. Total revisionist history on that one. I thought he was awesome when he was helping us get to the world series and founding the 40/40 club. But that's a long time ago now and it's hard to ignore more recent history. I'm not really a fan of McGwire anymore either, but at least he doesn't seem to have the same character flaws as Canseco.

PS -- One down, one to go.

I always liked McGwire. And I tend to believe his story about taking steriods because of his back. Not that it makes it any less legal, but at least, if true, he did it for health reasons. I mean the dude didn't need to take anything to hit homeruns. He almost hit 50 homeruns his rookie year. Canseco was a different story. You could tell from day one that he was seriously buff. You still have to have talent though. Just Ask Ozzie...

So you would rather have Cousins or Favors than Wall or Turner?
Yup, unless we have a shot at getting a starting 4 or 5 via trade or FA. I don't want John Wall within 50 miles of being in a uniform, he's not what we need. I really prefer Favors over Cousins too, due to Cousins being a bit of a headcase. If Petrie is confident he can pull of a great FA signing or trade for a starting big, then you take Turner with our pick.

We will have to agree to disagree.

While I'm undecided at this point, one thing I didn't particularily like about Wall was how he spoke out in local Lexington press about Calipari, saying he would not listen to him as things started to get a bit rocky for the freshman (less for his team that kept on winnng) during a poor shooting turnover galore stretch late in the season.

While Calipari probably deserves plenty of criticism for his rather mediocre big game coaching (great recruiter though) he down played it but I bet he was not liking the in your face scolding by the frosh teenager.

Evan Turner on the other hand, the model citizen, would never do something like that even if he had similar frustration about his coach. He'd let it go knowing it would pass or take it behind closed doors for a very private meeting.

Evan Turner - 20, 9, and 6. Yah there is your 2010-11 rookie if the year right there. Just can't see him putting up Reke #'s in the NBA though, I think we can all agree a year like Reke had doesn't happen all too often!
