1) Philosophical Differences: Musselmen's style will not suit the kings because most of the acquisitions Petrie has made were made for a motion offense. Even with Musselmen running motion sets it will not be the same because the coach does not understand the nuance of a system that he's never worked with.
2) Player Types: The collection of players we have make very good complementary players. Like it or not, our team was Webber. Everything ran through him and he was our focal superstar player. Accordingly he had a few MVP type seasons. Our players would be very useful or an asset to another team needing a piece to make a title run. Brad miller would really help a Hornets team or Mike bibby could help Rockets team. Now I haven't considered or looked at the possibility/plausibility of those trades...iv'e only offered some ideal situations for such role players.
3) Player Salaries: Players such as Kevin Martin and Ron Artest are too strong of assets for us to trade because of their salary to production rate. Low salary for these players yet theyr'e some of our better talented players. Such players are usually ones you should keep and players the Kings likely will.
4) Coaching: Look, some people might say it's too early to judge musselmen but he does not have the coaching background for this job. It's as simple as that. Most of his assistants lack many years of nba experience in coaching. Look at the other rosters. We probably have one of the least experienced coaching staffs in the NBA. I hope with after we have truly selected a style of play after this year that we hire an experienced coach. Look, Musselmen has coached a very talented team in Golden state to average results. True, you could say they were young but his style may not be conducive to winning. To play his style, you need at least a few dominant defensive players...or at least A spotblocker. Look at SA or Dallas. With Dallas, it may not be that clear but Dampier and Diop have more blocks than our entire roster.
Conclusion: We must address the issue of finding a style, superstar player we will build around AND please, do not say Kevin Martin. Anyone who has watched basketball knows that a superstar has MVP like qualities and consistantly puts up great numbers. Of course martin in young but sorry to burst everyone's bubble...but he's not the next Kobe, TMAC, Wade, Lebron. He might be as good as Rip or even better, Reggie. But as we know, it takes more than Rip and Reggie to win. However, we all can see that the superstars i listed are of a different mold. All can create their own shot and bring a level of skill to the game above the rest. Martin is a great 2nd option and even 3rd. But he doesnt have those qualities. So back to my point, we need to find a superstar...be that Greg Odon or a swingman we draft or player we acquire with superstar potential. Along with a superstar player, a set philosophy, and coach with good experience we can rebuild as people like to bring up often on this forum "on the fly" so improving but also rebuilding.
