Artest Has Been Suspended for Game 2!!!!

The league may just have strengthened the resolve of the "band of brothers."
We can hope for that. I'll guarantee Bibby will be really fired up. That stuff really stirs him up. Sometimes when I see a certain look in Bibby's eyes, I thank goodness he's not my enemy.:D And hopefully it will give Brad some inspiration.

I should never post when I'm upset or something like this first comes out...

I'm still pretty disgusted about the whole situation. I think the league was unfair, I thnk Manu intentionally fouled Ron right at the beginning to try and get into his head, and I think Ron's foul was, at worst, a flagrant 1.

More than a few sports commentary types talked about Manu's elbow "shutting up" Artest after Ron's claim that the Kings were the team to beat. These are probably the same people who have and will chastise Ron for his penchant for violence.

But that's just the life now for Martial Artest: when he points to the moon, everyone looks at his finger and misses the heavenly glory.:(

So he's basically saying "since you were in a brawl in Detriot last year, and because you are known for your flagarant fould and aggresive personality, you will be suspended for one game for commiting a flagarant one flower at worst."

How could he do that?? Especially in the playoffs!!!

If I remeber correctly the elbow that pop was complainiing about was the one when ron grabbed a rebound and hit duncan on the head, it is interesting the way they have edited the video on espn to make it look as though he is talking to ron after the manu hit when it is actually after the duncan hit!
yeah, I noticed this sheet too. ESPN and all these other hawks are just grabbing what they can and running with it.

Unbelievable. Whatever respect I have had for the NBA is gone. Their rules are bull****, the don't apply to everyone and the whole organization is a joke.

i could not agree more!

Its like when Webber would get T'ed up for barely hanging on the rim, but its all good when Shaq pulls the rim down almost every time...

This just shows how much The Kings are hated on, Stern makes me sick.

Any other player in the league, it would of been a slap on the wrist, with a small fine...

I love how they don't call anything when Ron nearly gets his teeth knocked out by Manu, but when Ron's snatches a board from Duncan he gets suspended for a game in the playoffs?... possibly ruining any chances the Kings had in winning this series, thats BS!:mad::mad::mad:

Karma is a...

not wishing anything on anyone besides Horry, but dont be surprised if someone gets injured on the Spurs tomorrow...

I do not want anyone injured. I do not even hate the Spurs in general. I DO hate what has happened. It is the inconsitency of it all that bothers me. I am not going to argue about whether or not he should have been suspended. My personal opinion is that it should have been a fine at worst. that aside, there MUST be a set standard about things such as this. If Artest is suspended, Manu should be as well. Artests' elbow was no more intentional than his. I am not going to go so far as to say that Ron did not mean to hit him. He probably did, but to me, Ginobli's did not look any less intentional. What about Bowen's kicking and all the other incidences cited where players hit with elbows? Mutombo is FAMOUS for knocking people around with his elbows. I do not recall any suspensions for him this season.

So they want to say that it is a culmination of past acts, fine. Even criminals get probation WITH A TIME LIMIT. When is his probation up? Never - Ok. Then he should have a written list of what happens when he __________ (fill in the blank.) If he has to play by different rules, let him know what the rules will be.

I am more mad because there appears to be a BLATANT double standard. Even Manu and Pop were shocked that he was suspended. If they are not going to do away with the double standard, the team and Ron need to be filled in on the "terms and regulations" of his game.

NOW - since we cannot change the fact that he is gone - how do you think that the team is going to respond? I like the idea that we are all going to band together and come out and make this game great. We may not win, but I think it will be a fight (not literal) until the end! I really like the idea that all the players have 93 written on their shoes. Symbolic gesture. A little bonding moment if you please!

wtf? Does anyone have a link to this? I didnt see the game....I listened to it and all I heard was Ginobili smackin Ron in the mouth. Does anyone have a liink to Ron's blow to ginobili? Ive heard it was intentional...but I highly doubt that

OK, to me, it looks like Ron was momentarily distracted and then accidently hit Ginobli in the head while he was looking away. Notice that he actually looked back at Ginobli after they made contact, kind of like a "What the hell did I hit?" type of thing.

One of the things that really bothers me about this is that Ron got the same punishment as Udonis Haslem got for throwing something at a referee. Crawford never took his eyes off of Haslem the whole time and Haslem chose to yank his mouthpiece out and throw it at him anyways. Talk about a blatant disrespect for the rules. He gets a 1 game suspension for doing that, and Ron gets the same punishment for something that is a questionable call.

I'm not saying that Ron is innocent or not...I just think that Haslem did something that was so "in your face" that it deserved a much more severe penalty than Ron. Or more, that Ron's penalty should have been far less than Haslem's.

That crossed my mind as well. Ugh.

Apples and oranges. Haslemm gets the suspension for disrespect. For Ron to get this suspension its not about disrespect at all -- they are more or less saying he intentionally through a "punch" and tried to hurt him. That's an extreme interpretation of that play, bnut its not about the rules. Its about injury + intent.

Check out post #49.

Well I just have to say that I was not home all day Saturday, and I missed the entire game.

However, ALL weekend long, the only play I heard about was Manu's shot on Ron and how Ron layed on the floor, and got three stitches and so on...and so on...

and then two days later, the only play that earned a suspension was the one I heard about at 11 a.m. this morning.

LOL at people saying Pop and Manure Ginobili were shocked. The league just doesn't decide to check a call a day later and then suspend somebody. Pop and possibly Manu obviously complained to the league and they finally decided to change it because the spurs are the darlings of the NBA. What they've said in the paper is lies, I'm pretty sure anyways. What would you guys expect them to say? "Yeah, I complained to the league a lot and they finally decided to suspend him. I'm pretty proud of myself for this." I have no reason to believe anything Poppovich said, especially when I remembering him going insane because it wasn't called a flagrant. Man I thought the spurs organization had some class, but I've figured out they're more like their own Bruce Bowen(who should be banned from the league for the stuff he does compared to Ron's forearm). Not like Ron KICKED anyone in the face.

popovich is a liar. shocked?? yeah right. he was complaining the whole time. hell, he was screaming at ron himself. which really makes me think pop has a double standard. it's okay for bowen to kick another player in the face but he's going to scream at ron and gesture to his head as if to tell ron to use it. give me a break. pop knows exactly what he's doing and he does it well.

dude they didnt want this call... in fact the are afriad the kigns will put up a much better fight now

how could they not want one of the league's best defenders out for a game? not to mention a big part of our offense. right now, i doubt the spurs are afraid of anything. (at least with sacramento that is)

I couldn't agree anymore...saw the replay and obviously Ginobli used his ELBOW to keep Artest from stealing the ball. I can't blame Artest for getting a little payback- the guy's the toughest player we have and he shouldn't get pushed around. Ridiculous how Pop got involved in yelling at Artest and now this morning after the announced suspension the Spurs camp was all jolly. Friggin' bullsh*t. You know they were crying and the NBA plays favorites...makes me sick.

Note: It IS within the NBA's purview to look at anything they want, and take any action they want, with or without other team's being involved. With or without refs making calls.

Especially in the playoffs, with so few games to look at, I would imagine the league enforcement offices see every play of every game regardless of team's trying to politic.

This is about Ron and the league. Its not about the Kings, the Spurs, conspiracies, or whatever. Its a simple result of Ron being on a special list for the NBA, of his rep dictating a result. If Ron was on the Grizzlies and made that play, he still gets suspenede apparently just because he's Ron. If Reef makes that same play for us, Reef does not get suspended. This is about the name on the back of that jersey, regardless of what the Spurs, refs, media or anybody else said or did.
