Artest/Bibby to Heat?

Dime Dropper

All-Star
Heading into training camp, the Kings could revive the trade talk that surrounded SF Ron Artest and PG Mike Bibby early in the offseason. The Heat, which struck out in its attempts to land SF Mickael Pietrus, G Charlie Bell, PG Maurice Williams and PG Steve Francis, is getting desperate, and rumors of a deal that would send either Bibby or Artest to Miami have new life. Sacramento won't have significant salary cap room 'til the summer of 2009, but the team would like to be able to clear room for next summer's strong free-agent class. . . .

Been re-visited about a billion times now. Almost so right that that's the reason it won't happen.

I'd love to see a Ron for Wright (kid), Doleac (ender), Green (kid) and 1st rounder.

Thoughts on this speculation?

Key words?

This kind of speculation is rife this time of year. I don't see it happening.

I agree, that's why I used the word "specualtion" at the end of my post. Still, though, thought it worth posting as this offseason is going ridiculously slow :(

Won't happen...I don't think the HEat have the pieces to land either Bibby OR Artest in Petrie's mind. I don't think Haslem can net the additionally required pieces (expirings/youth/picks) to make it happen. I just don't see it.

Yeah, I really think the key to moving Bibby or Artest (or both) is what a Haslem or a Drew Gooden can net from a third team. If anyone's willing to give up picks+expirings, I say make a deal, but not sure if anyone's out there, other than maybe Houston.

The idea of passing Haslem through Houston to complete that team and have them end Sura + pick or some such to us remains viable. On paper at least. Question would be would Houston want to clutter its own roster with a Scola/Hayes/Haslem combo reminscient of our own garbage platoon.

Horrific as it may sound, remmeber too that Twoine has a contract which ends after next seson ('08) and could be swapped for Kenny to get a year off that contract + let the Heat escape that tude. You could hide Kenny next to the big centers the way Haslem has hid these last few years too.

I can't begin to tell you how much I dislike Twoine, but, if I can get rid of KT now, and Twoine next year, I do the deal. Other than J Will and garbage or picks, the only way I can see a trade with the Heat is with a third team. I'm sure that I could dream up some deals, but the likelyhood of Petrie having the same dream are slim and none.

Dude, the Heat don't want KT! If they do, we would have a deal by now. KT is a much worse player than Haslem. They have similar attributes but KT's attitude, undersizeness, inability to make a FT, and turnovers knock him way below Haslem, who is unspectular but steady, just the way the Heat likes it.

As for Toine, he's their instant offense off the bench. Until Penny proves he can carry the load, they aren't going to get rid of Toine for some locker room cancer. Yes, they want to upgrade their PG and SF positions but they're being cheap. They don'T want to downgrad other positions.

I don't see anything the Heat (or us) can offer that can actually attract a third team. Miami doesnt want to trade picks, Dorrell Wright or Dequan Cook. All they're doing is dangling JWill and Doleac's enders in hope for quality from some deperate GM. If we try hard enough, we may pry Wayne Simien away, but that's it! The Heat is offerring pennies on the dollar. Until we're prepared to take a steep loss or the Heat open up their vault, there's not going to be a deal.

okay... i think i did it.... it doesnt make us better but it gets rid of kt for huge expiring contracts....

3 teams... kings/sonics/heat...

kings trade
artest/thomas/douby

kings receive
wally/doleac/west

sonics trade
watson/wally/west

sonics receive
haslem/williams/douby

heat trade
haslem/williams/doleac

heat receive
artest/thomas/watson

heat need a pg and sf... they get that

sonics need a pf to go with their 4 7ft centers and have too many pgs.. though i doubt they give up west and watson... i like west but you can take him out and the trade still works...

kings get rid of thomas and get huge expirings for him and artest... if you add west you get the player that we hope shakur or green would be...

bibby/west/green
martin/garcia
slamons/wally
reef/williams/doleac
miller/moore/hawes

how sick would that be? bibby and wally coming off the books at the same time...

Take Douby out of it for the Kings and have the Heat add Cook or a 1st to the Sonics and the other to the Kings. We're giving up Artest who is BY FAR the best player in this deal.

but thomas will be gone.... thats all that matters

We don't know how good Douby will be. At this stage we shouldn't trade away a young player just to get rid of a vet, at least not until we are sure Douby won't be an all-star of anything of that sort. This trade can come back and bite us on the a$$ like the Suns trading away Steve Nash (though they managed to sign him back).

yeah but nash was a real pg and playing behind kdd.... douby is a undersized sg who we hope can play pg... when was the last time that came back and hurt anyone? who was going to draft douby anyways?

Boston letting go of a trigger-happy guard named Chancey Billups? Minni letting go an undersized SG named Bobby Jackson?

Douby has the potential to be a very good player. We can't afford to give him away now.

We did pass up on Arenas, who Douby is sometimes compared to and Arenas thrived under Musselmans system. Douby never got playing time. We drafted Douby over the more traditional PG in Marcus Williams, who ends up playing behind Kidd.

Minny also let go of Chauncey, and Denver traded Bobby to Minny after having a decent rookie year.

Time will tell.
