Arena deal is dead according to an annoncement by KJ. Appparently he is giving a speech right now. That's all I know.

I know there is another thread and this can be removed. I just thought it deserved special attention.

We can thank our fabulous owners once again for absolutely nothing. They wanted their loan restructured AND didn't want to put up any collateral. THANK YOU MALOOFS, YOU ARE THE ****ING BEST

Complete slap in the face for Grant/Jerry and MSE to tell fans how great we are yesterday, and made a point of saying it a number of times.

Then rip our hearts out and s*** on us the following morning.

Yep perfectly timed. They wont have to worry about going to games for a while, and they squeezed some attendance out for the last game tricking fans into thinking they still wanna try to get this arena done. I would not be surprised if season ticket holders drop by 50%

Perfect timing. What is odd is that I have no reaction. Call it denial or I don't care or I knew it was coming. We'll see. At this point I presume it just means next year will be played at PBP.

What I really don't respect in all of this, is the Maloofs repeatedly sneaking out the back door and not facing the media.

This sucks.

Same here. None. No surprise, no feeling, etc. Opinion of Maloofs is firmly cemented as very low, this just confirms that. What's funny is that I was very emotional a few weeks ago, and now... just strangely don't care. I almost don't even care if they leave town. I know they won't, though.

Would not be surprised to see season tickets drop by a substantial rate.

Talk about using people, wow.

I feel like I'm about an inch away from hanging it up as a fan for a while.

Did anybody expect anything different? Honestly?

The Maloofs still won't put up collateral for a re-fi, and they still won't agree to a 30-year lease. These are not unreasonable demands by the city - they're merely arbitrary points that the Maloofs knew the city wouldn't give in on. Now our idiot owners can say that they "tried".

They won't sell barring desperation or a force-out. They can't move (this year) without fighting an anti-trust battle they will probably lose. But beyond next year...who knows? Ain't it great rooting for a franchise with the worst, brokest, most lyingest owners in the league whose very future is in limbo for years at a time?

Maybe I have too much faith in Stern and the relocation committee, but I don't see HOW they let these fools move an NBA franchise anywhere. They have a terrible business track record, and have loans upon loans to the NBA and the city of Sacramento.

That's our best defense, and I think it will work. You would have to be a complete idiot to let these guys move this team, especially when the Mayor has two potential owners lined up. It would be a quick sell. It's just a matter of time.

I hope you're right. Allowing broke/terrible owners to move to another city doesn't change the fact they're broke/terrible owners. Why let them pollute another market, even though I doubt they could afford to move(relocation fee) in the first place.

Maloofs don't have any collateral to put up - they're broke by NBA owner standards. Hope there's a viable Plan B. This can't suck enough. Maloofs don't walk, they slither.

Samueli or whatever his name is would cover the relocation fee

Part of me just still wonders what the hell they are thinking?? Like, do they have a plan?? What do they think is going to happen? Do they think they are going to be able to get an arena deal eventually without putting up collateral? Without a 30 year lease? Without paying taxes? Without putting ANY money down? With one of, if not THE lowest lease annual lease rates in the league? Do they really think they will be allowed to move? If not, will they sue? If so, do they actually think they have a case?

There must be some Lao-tzu quote that explains how insane the enemy is being right now and what you do when that happens. VF?

I keep seeing parallels between the Maloofs and Lewis Wolfe (A's) in Oakland. Pursuing a move that will most likely never happen, fielding a bare-bones team with a minimal payroll that has very little chance of success.

Samueli is rich enough that he probably could cover that expense BUT the Maloofs would have to pay it back. The good thing is that it won't make financial sense for either party- the Maloofs or Samueli- for the Kings to relocate to Anaheim. Too expensive. It would take decades for the Kings to build enough equity to break even.

I'm numb to this crap by now.
If I remember correctly, it's called the first stage of grief. An anger out burst may be coming and then sadness. Let's remember all we have lost and perhaps temporarily is the arena vision and not the team. I don't live in Sacramento and although I had a lot invested in seeing that great arena built, I wasn't quite as invested as the physically abled folks from Sacramento.

It's not over until it's over and the fat lady hasn't even got out over her limo to sing. The team is still here. I can't for the life of me see the NBA OK'ing a move. That's the big issue in my mind. I think I know the legalities and that is if push comes to shove, even the NBA can't stop a move but I doubt the body (NBA) that holds a whole lot of loans to the Kings is going to be overly cooperative unless they think it's in the interest of the NBA to let a team leave Sacto. I can't for the life of me see the NBA thinking that is wise.

It is also possible that bank stocks will rise nicely with the economy changing and one more year at PBP (can't we change that name?) will let the Maloofs know if they can survive and actually make a bigger profit. Maybe the revenue sharing of the NBA will change the Maloof's finances. There's a lot none of us know except the suspicion that they are broke and leveraged to the hilt seems a fair guess.

If I was them, I would sell. It seems reasonable although I'm not sure if they are reasonable. Do they want to be known as the peole who shafted a city. Ya know, future business deals are in the balance for them and if they lose their reputation in the business community, it may be a huge loss. I don't know. I know I wouldn't do business with them.

We, the fans, have been good people and that may in the end pay off for us. I am still a Kings fan and that won't die. Our reputation is nationwide known and it's not just butt kissing that people say we are great. We stand out from most fans. At least our cow bells do. :)

Let's wait and see what happens. There still is a partial plan and a framework for a decision. Maybe the next move is a sale of the team. That, in the end, is not an outrageous idea if the Maloofs still have most of their synapses connected and if the two buyers we think are waiting are still there.

Note I turned the worst news into a best cas scenario? :) I refuse to give in to pessimism. As I said a month ago or who knows when, now let's support the city and the council and help them come up with the missing $70 mil so they can build the dang thing. Other sports are played indoors and although they are not able to help pay for an arena, they CAN use an arena and be tenants like arena football, and the oldies but goodies, indoor soccer if it still survives, WNBA, tennis (?), pro badmintion legaue. Heck I don't know but it's not a time to quit thinking.

Hate to put this all on KJ but he needs to give us direction.

I seem to remember that someone or a few went over the math of a move and concluded that the liklihood of Samueli eventually owning the team was huge. It was cheaper to stay in Sacramento. Certainly the Maloofs know that Samueli would end up with the team. If that is so, why not sell to someone who would keep the team local? I simply can't think of anything that makes more sense given that it seems they don't have the money to operate a pro framchise. How much money will they get in revenue sharing?

Everyone local needs to show up at the May 8 CC meeting if they can. Coordinate with Mike, if necessary, but wear white shirts. Make sure the City knows we still want an arena built! There is NO way the NBA would let MSE move if a new facility is available. Hopefully MSE would be forced to sell (internal pressures, etc., not NBA telling them to) if it came to that.

I agree. It's very difficult to believe they'd get a better deal elsewhere. Seems like they're trapped and they just are flailing. Anyhow, I hope they're trapped...

Just as I predicted on the other thread... stalling things until after the last game to avoid fan uproar / demonstrations at the games.

Now let's see if they have the guts to bring in the moving vans without the NBA approval. It wouldn't surprise me, given their tone in the press conference where they pointed out, multiple times, that the agreement was that they could move if there was no new arena.
