Are you excited....... ?

THe new season is upon us, are you excited? Chompin' at the bit? WIld eyed fanatical?

Not me. :(

I have to say that my interest is at an all time low. A lot of it must come from the fact that I now live across the country (in Virginia) and am not getting any Kings news/excitement/talk/preseason games/etc.... but I moved in early 2003 and was pretty damn rabid for the first couple of seasons. But the 2003 playoffs as my first out of the greater sac area (I lived in Davis) was a bit auspitious timing... basically the year the King's abruptly ceased existing as a force in the NBA, along with the functionality of one of Chris Webber's knees.

I don't think I've lost interest because the King's are losers now...at least not JUST because of that. i BECAME a fan when the Kings were easily arguably the single worst franchise in ALL of sports, the mid 1990s. I LIKED the way the fans stayed rabid in spite of all the years upon years of losing, THAT was alot of what won me over. It is very endearing sitting along side a crew heartily HOPING to get to .500 for the first time in a decade... bleeding/bleating purple in black just for a SHOT at the 8th playoff spot... you know the story.

On the other hand, I remained a die-hard Redskins fan during the entirety of my decade-ish long stay in California... although THAT time also coincided with the Skin's lowest of low times (well other than THIS sunday in Foxburrow <blech>).

fact is, I don't know exactly what it is (its NOT as if my loyalties have transferred to the Bullets... I even TRIED to cultivate that, but no seeds have grown on THAT barren soil)... but I'll try to hold on 'til this enui passes and see if I give a rats arse in a couple of weeks/months.

so... how much do YOU care today, on the eve of the season?

How could I not be excited? THIS IS MY TEAM. We're either gonna win if Bibby was healthy(well not a great team, but decent), or now that Mike and Miller are injured we get to watch Douby and Hawes(when he gets healthy) play. I either watch the young guys get better or the team do okay, that sounds like a win-win for me.:D

I am excited to see how well out youngans play...

But other than not not really. I know the team is going to suck again.

I hope Garcia shows us something because he is 26 isn't he? He only has about 5 more years before he starts going downhill.

im excited to see how well other bad teams play... im hoping that the blazers, sonics, bucks, clippers and hawks play better than the kings... the hawks should be fun to watch...

Nah, he doesn't have that much wear and tear on his body. Sort of like Doug Christie IMO, he was fine until around 34.

Garcia is actually my great hope this season. Not for carrying the King's to the promised land, but for possibly carrying me into a level of interest. I have NO idea why, but for whatever reason he is the player that I connect with the most as a fan. I can't justify it... I can only state it as the case.;)

My expectations of winning aren't too terribly high but I'm excited to some Kings basketball. I'm excited to see what kind of coach Reggie Theus can be and I'm excited to see all the young guys learning and getting better. Douby looks to have a good chance to show what he can do and get better, as does Cisco and hopefully Hawes. I'm excited for the Vets to play well enough to get some trade value so maybe, just maybe we'll be able to get something for them if it comes to that. Haven't even mentioned Kevin Martin yet who has me really excited. So yeah, I'm excited.

Excited. Well, yes, I'am. Its been a while since I've seen my team in action and personally I'm a little starved for some B Ball. Do I think that they'll do well? NO! But their my team, and if ever a team needs its fans, its when things aren't going well. They need someone to cheer for them when they bust their butts, even when they lose.

Its so easy to cheer for a winner. No retching of the gut. None of those emotional lows that accompany that last second loss. The one's we used to win. But its my team. Its like a marrige. For better or worse, in sickness and in health. Well, my team is sick right now, and I'm going to do whatever I can to nurse them back to health. Even if its only emotional help. Viva La Kings....

Yeah I'm hoping Douby can play well. Same thing for me except I'm interested in the team regardless. But I want to see him really do well.

YES! of course i want to see Martin lead our team w/o bibby and Artest i wanna see franciso improve i wanna see Quincy get some time as i believe he can be a very good player in this league and i wanna see Justin come back so ofcourse im excited

it is not hard for me to come to terms with the fact that the kings are going to be a losing team for awhile, but it is beyond hard for me to get excited about this season, or even the next couple of seasons. this is mostly because kings management has done absolutely nothing to indicate that there is some sort of longview in consideration or some sort of plan for the future in place. if i knew the kings were going to move towards youth, then it would be easier to cope with the suck-age to come. however, aimlessly tossing the MLE at mediocre players like john salmons and mikki moore every year does little to boost my confidence in the front office's ability to reconstruct this team. that is what is most depressing about this season, and why i won't be watching many games. i used to plan my schedule around kings games. now i'll be watching them whenever i'm bored and have nothing better to do.

I'm always excited about the return of the NBA each season.

I phrase it that way on purpose. ;)

The most exciting/interesting things about the Kings however looked to be 1) Hawes (down with knee); 2) Justin (down with menage); and 3) maybe Cisco, if he ketp developing, whihc he so far has not. So that takes much of the air out of the little for the futrue intrigue we did have going. On the other hand, losing Mike could actually finally trigger something in Geoff's little mind, and maybe we start actively rebuilding, making moves, and that could really spice things up.

And besides, who could not be excited about the return of the Grades Thread Themes!? :p

Simply put hell yes, we may not be expecting much, but just for the fact its Kings basketball is back, im pumped.

Besides the Kings always kinda cure my yearly woes (the Raiders).

As I said before recently, either the glass is half-full or half-empty. Those who believe the former are excited and those who believe the later are not.

Half-full analysis:

Bibby is out for a couple months or maybe 'til early next year. In the meantime, Kings fans get to see a team where he's not #1 option. If a FA is signed to run the point or back-up, so be it. We're going to see a lot of Douby, Greene, Garcia and Salmons rotating like never before. Artest is out for 7 games, but when he comes back along with Hawes at around the same time things should improve over what's likely to be a rough opening few weeks. We get to see if the new up-tempo style and D-emphasis of Coach Reggie pays dividends. A slimmer Brad Miller might lead the team in assists - not bad - as long as he boards and takes his open shots. I love the way #52 has been taking it strong to the hole in pre-season. We need max effort from our front-line of Brad, SAR, K-9, Mikki, Watkins - not to mention using Ron-Ron at PF - A LOT. Just watching Kevin Martin glide around and with bursts of speed almost effortlessly put up huge numbers is... humm... what's the word... exciting! GO KINGS!!

We are excited--there's something about walking into Arco Arena that's special and for us that is basketball. It is certainly disheartening to see what is happening to the team (Mike, Justin, etc.), but it could be exciting to watch the young members get playing time. Also, like Theus so far and want to see how he does. I also agree that people need to get behind the team when times are not so good. Several have said that the fans now are different--I agree but let me tell you our experience. Five years ago we went to every home game, buying tickets off sites like this and e-bay. The next year we did the same. The third year we bought half-season and the fourth year the whole season from the same person. We were on the waiting list the entire time. For three and 1/2 of those years it was a rare experience to sit next to the same people. So many many season ticket holders sell their tickets (and we paid a percentage over the face value) or most of them. So, you never get that "group fan" feeling where you meet the same seatmates every game, form friendships, etc. It is just different than it used to be. Before the last five years, we only got to go to a few games with at least one, if not two, kids away at college. We have had our own season tickets the last two years and last year never met the owner on one side, just various people who bought the tickets, and about half the season with the owner on the other. So, this year, we made a move for better seats and met the owner on one side last home game. We were asked for our email address as they only are going to attend 6 games and thought we might know someone who would like to buy their tickets for some of the games. The other side hasn't come to any preseason games--hopefully they are serious fans to plan to use their tickets. Wheww! That was long, but it can still be fun and exciting, but not the same. Go Kings--Annie (and Bud).

Am I excited for the Kings' season? Meh... Not particularly. I'm certainly interested, and will keep up to date on all pertinent news, but I'm surprisingly unaffected by the fact I'll be lucky to see/hear more than one game all year.

Am I excited for the NBA season? Yep! However, with a busy school schedule and without the availability of League Pass... it's a different excitement than in the past.

I'm looking forward to a few things, however. Can't wait to see Brickie's opening night grades theme! :p

I'm always excited for a new season to begin, but the ugliness I'm sure will get to me sooner than later. I will be excited to see how our young guys develop if they get a chance to play that is. But you want to know why people aren't excited let me paint a picture.

Starting 5:
PG: Orion Greene
SG: Kevin Martin
SF: John Salmons
PF: Kenny Thomas
C: Brad Miller

Average Ticket Price: Among the highest if not the highest in the league!

The rabid, cowtown Sacramento Kings fans who loved basketball and this team like it was their lives have been phased out by night clubbers from Vegas with deeper pockets.

And with that starting lineup if you take out Martin we are back to the powder blue, last place days. Actually let's just call Martin the K-Train and we'll live in the past until we get some cap space.

I am excited - I always am.

This year is exciting for different reasons. I am not expecting a title, but I ma excited about the return a more FUN style of Kings ball. I am looking forward to seeing how Martin is going to play. I am hoping to see how Douby and Cisco have progressed. I am just excited to see how we play as a TEAM.

GO Kings!!

I am excited because I am sick of evening television.

That and I have that feeling again that Ron and Kevin are going to thrive this season.

Excellent! Couldn't have said it better myself.

Actually there is ahelluva lot MORE gut wrenching from the good teams... when they JUST BARELY fall short. THAT sucks!

with pee poor teams, your gut never tightens enough to be wrenched... you can just celebrate the small "moral victories" along the way and have fun. I remember the whole town walking on air for a week back in the bad-old-days if the Kings just beat Seatle or Houston (or one of the other mid-90s powers) in a regular-season game ---- or hell, the town got downright giddy if the team just played COMPETIVELY against one of those powers, and just barely lost!

I don't think I've lost interest because the King's suck ... the fact that they suck AND frankly are kinda boring doesn't help though!

but in my case, I gues its just a combination of distance and time. I am far away--- AND I now I actually have a real job to suck the time and life out of my soul ( ;) )--- AND I now have three children to suck out the remaining time and energy out of my day.

THe first couple of years I was back, I'd listen to web-casts of the games fairly religiously, and catch the kings WHENEVER they were in town... now, it seems like a LOT of effort (and you know, those 7:30pm games don't end here until around 2 am... and I get up at 6 for work... THAT HURTS!)

Enjoy the season everyone

I am excited because it's Kings basketball, and that is enough.

That said, I wish Petrie would just commit to rebuilding. It's been obvious for a long time that it's not only desired but necessary.

Yes...yes I am. I'ts my Kings out there, good or bad. It's a different excitement and certainly lower expectations, but I still want to root for the Sacramento Kings. :)

I think our ticket prices were listed at 6th highest. The last time we were in Southern California and looked into ticket prices for the Lakers, their courtside seats were $2300.00 per seat versus ours at about $1000.00 per. Downstairs there were 230.00 per and ours runs 140.00-165.00. I think the Knicks have the highest prices. L.A. raised their prices this year and now wondering what the backlash will be IF Kobe leaves.

I'm excited ....

...for the end of the season in early 2010. We'll be dumping some bad contracts around that time. Also, I'll be close to finishing my next degree.
