Monte screwed up big time trying to “run it back” by resigning an aging guy that disappeared in the playoffs. Trying to trade him confirms that. He’s been TERRIBLE.

Oh yeah. Keep going.Monte screwed up big time trying to “run it back” by resigning an aging guy that disappeared in the playoffs. Trying to trade him confirms that. He’s been TERRIBLE.
I think Monte did that more out of necessity rather than a true desire to keep Barnes here long-term. I will be shocked if Barnes is still here past the trade deadline.Monte screwed up big time trying to “run it back” by resigning an aging guy that disappeared in the playoffs. Clearly. Which is why it took them so long to sign him....and Barnes 'camp' reported that they didn't know what was going on
Barnes actually has been pretty good for what his role is. His percentages are decent. This is the problem though when you have a player see their role diminished when their basic role is that of a stat producer to begin with. If anything with the way Barnes has been shooting the 3 ball this month the real question might be whether or not he should be shooting more. That's always been him though. Stay in his role and don't rock the boat even if you need it.
I think something many overlook with Barnes is his ability to score at all three levels. While this might not seem like much, I would bet that less than 35% of the league can say the same. It is also why I feel he would help the team more coming off the bench.
I think he would excel with the second unit. He would be the 2nd option and give us two quality scorers off the bench.Watch him get traded...and then a 2nd unit scoring role rejuvenates his production

If the Kings didn't have the abundance of shooting they already do, Barnes would be much more appreciated. Barnes with a bigger role is still a definite starter in the NBA. The Kings don't have a ton of defenders on the perimeter so his flaws are magnified even if just about everyone around him is typically just as futile to the end result.

Yeah and I think Huerter is suffering a bit from this as well. Fox has taken a leap, Keegan/Monk have taken a leap and even Domas is showing a lot more scoring aggression than last season. Those 4 are just fully differentiating themselves on a new level with their offensive games and differing levels of on-ball scoring. And once you get past the USG of those guys, there just isn't much room for shots left in the offense. At least not at the level where Huerter and HB were last season.
I mean, just tonight for instance:
Keegan 18 FGA,
Fox 14 FGA, 2 FTA
Domas 13 FGA, 6 FTA
Monk 13 FGA, 7 FTA
58/89 total FGA. 15/23 total FTA
Which is why I've been so against a LaVine type. Just isn't room to add much USG into this offense. But maybe he can just be a talent play and it'll work out.
I don't get why they would never try him with the 2nd unit. They're constantly trying everything else with rotations and lineups.
And I'm still looking at it as why not, if it's the only shot for trading up then take it because if you can trade ancillary pieces for all star talent it simply doesn't come along very often. I think talent and versatility are worth it and if the Kings were surefire in that top 3 of the West any move likely wouldn't be necessary. Keegan with another player to dish the ball to him to me is a great thing even if the fit isn't perfect. If Fox can see his own usage dip a little I think that's a big plus heading into and during the playoffs.
Here's the one issue I have though.
Can you afford everybody with LaVine on a long-term deal?
Domas is 50 mil
Fox extension is what? Like 55 mil first year? Maybe?
Keegan is headed for a rookie max
Monk is going to want the max we can pay him.
LaVine is 40 mil.
If you pull this deal, also have to make sure Monk is on board. Huerter-HB for LaVine is fine. Losing Monk this off-season and losing Huerter/HB is not.
You can't just redistribute open outside shots as you take what the opposing team gives you. And currently any competent team wants Huerter to shoot. As I said in the game thread he's just not getting looks. Last two games he barely shot but I haven't seen him being a liability out there (other than 1Q Detroit when everyone was)
Huerter prob needs some time away. I'm curious if HB could take the role of being a spot up shooter, camping on the perimeter, and getting anywhere from 4-10 3PA per game (the high end essentially taking all of Huerter's looks along with his own). Buddy Hield type role without the bone-headedness
The other issue is you have no tradable contracts to upgrade defense at the 4.
Fox Ellis
Lavine Monk
Keegan Duarte
Lyles Sasha
Sabonis Len
basically no contracts left to trade. I guess you could move Davion and either Lyles or Sasha for a 12-15 million dollar player but for better or worse this is the team for 2/3 years. Offensively the team could be special, just not sure it’s good enough for a championship.
