Are we going to acknowledge how bad Barnes has been?

If Huerter and Barnes defense are bad...getting Lavine is not as bad since he is an upgrade over them in offense giving defense remains the same lol. Desperate measures ask for desperate trade lol.

Here's the one issue I have though.

Can you afford everybody with LaVine on a long-term deal?

Domas is 50 mil

Fox extension is what? Like 55 mil first year? Maybe?

Keegan is headed for a rookie max

Monk is going to want the max we can pay him.

LaVine is 40 mil.

If you pull this deal, also have to make sure Monk is on board. Huerter-HB for LaVine is fine. Losing Monk this off-season and losing Huerter/HB is not.
I think the Kings have 2 1/2 years of being OK. Then the numbers go where they go, but if the team isn't a contender by then they'll know it and a partial reset is in order anyway. I mean the alternative is to just let Huerter, Barnes, and Davion walk then if the cap is an issue. How is that competitive? Teams that are going for it are building teams without much care it would seem in regards to the 2nd apron, if Vivek is penny pinching he isn't letting Monte look at the players he is. Monte isn't looking at the affordable guys.

I hate this thread. He's our fifth option in the starting line up. I don't even have to check to know that every team's fifth option has plenty of low scoring games. He's reliable when it comes his way and puts up solid numbers over all. I never see him with the ball in his hands and worry. He can't create for himself and take over games like our stars, but that's far from the team's biggest weakness. If we can get a clear cut upgrade, fine, but scapegoating him is unwarranted from where I sit.

I wholeheartedly agree, my concern with him is his declining rebounding and struggles on defense. He still hits 40% from 3.

Yeh Barnes is a great fit as a fifth option on plenty of teams, he just doesn’t give us the plus defense we need next to Sabonis. It’s too bad so many fans have turned on him, dude gets more hate than Marvin Bagley. If and when he gets traded I hope he either lands on a team that can maximize his skill set or gets re-routed to a contender. Hate to see him play out the rest of his career on a bottom feeder.

But the point is not to keep your veteran 5th option with that contract taking up playing time from unproven players who need the time to develop and improve.

As its 5th option, this team needs a defensive specialist who can function as the point of attack defender, is a great perimeter defender, who can help Sabonis with rebounding, and who can defend the best big forward on opposing teams. This defensive specialist also needs to knock down corner threes at a good clip.

This is not Harrison Barnes.

What's so bad about Barnes playing out the rest of his career on a bottom feeder? It's not like he is a world beater or something himself. I think he is perfectly suited to being a veteran presence on the Pistons or Trailblazers.

Who is this hypothetical player that can satisfy this arbitrary criteria? You're talking about disparate skill sets. If such a player exists, he would be an unicorn.

We already know what Harrison Barnes is and what he is not. It's like getting a cat and blaming it for not barking. If you wanted a dog, go get it. If you want to blame someone, it is Monte who signed Barnes to a new contract.

Also, why would a bottom feeder trade for Barnes? Doesn't make sense at all.

Meh, i'm just glad we didn't end up trading for Jared Vanderbilt. His defense apparently is nowhere near advertised and he's even more of a liability offensively than anything we've been complaining about with HB. I think we'll have a better showing against Milwaukee tonight and i hope that translates into a W, though i'm not confident in our perimeter defense. We pretty much have to hope they have an off night unless our rotations are sharp + with purpose and we can stay disciplined enough not to commit soft fouls.
