Jay Williams, yeah the one who can't ride a motorcycle, is looking to come back the NBA. I think the Kings should be looking at him as a back up point gaurd, its a good opportunity to get a once talented player who has potential to be a really good player. However when I think of him I get Bobby Hurley flashbacks which doesn't make me feel to good in the gut. What do you guys think?

It would be a good risk, however, I think he's going to Miami or SA. The Kings could use some of their MLE, but they have bigger needs right now that need to be solid moves for backup PG (JWill is a huge ?) and backup PF/C.

Would you rather have a guy like Steven Hunter or Zaza Pachulia or a risk like JWill, who probably won't play very much this season?

It is interesting though...

We have much bigger needs that need to be addressed with the MLE. Why would we risk it on someone like Jay Williams?

It might be a good opportunity to get a once talented player who has potential to be a really good player. It might also be an opportunity wasted on a once talented player who simply doesn't have it any more.

We don't have the luxury of taking a gamble like this, IMHO. Not if we're serious about wanting to actually be competitive with the elite teams in the West. The possibility of it not working out at all is just too great.

If Williams would accept the LLE (I would assume he would get better offers) then I say yeah. If not then pass. Backup PG just isn't that important unless you are talking about a guy that can deliver Bobby Jackson level results. Unfortunately, I don't even think Bobby Jackson can do that anymore.

We have no back up point gaurd with Bobby gone, no one. Keep in mind, eventhough we don't really like Kenny Thomas, at least we have forward options. We have no option as far as it comes to someone who can run the team when Bibby is on the bench. Right now the Kings are looking at Juan Dixon, he'll probably be more expensive then Jay. Eventhough Jay is a risky buy, he was once a college player of the year, he's shown tremendous work ethic to get back into basketball shape, this after a motorcycle accident which many people thought he would never walk again. I think its a move no one in Sactown would regret.

Cost risk analysis. If the cost were low enough sure give him a try. But if I were a player trying to return from an injury the LAST thing I's wnat to do is put on a Kings jersey.

Maybe thats the way to do it, injure yourself before you don the kings jersey, therefore deactivating the pre-arranged injury

He would have been an intriguing camp invite, but beyond that I wouldn't want to sign him to any sort of contract. Too big of a risk when there are quality PG's out there.

id take him...... if he doesnt work out than scrap him..... but i hope hes not expecting big money because no team is gonna toss big bills to a question mark

That's where you're wrong. I think teams are going to toss big money at a former 2nd pick in the draft.

mr moustache........... HE WENT THROUGH A MOTORCYLE ACCIDENT AND COULDNT WALK FOR MONTHS!!!!!!! he couldnt even dunk til about 6 months ago....... and you think GM's gonna give him a big contract? maybe isaiah, sterling, babcock... i dont know any other stupid GM's

:)

For the right price, why not? Actually, I would want him to be an add-in to a Chandler & Deng/Heinrich/whatever for Peja trade.

That's flawed logic. Say we keep Thomas, we have no one to play PF when he's on the bench. Besides, Thomas isn't good enough to start for a great team. I'd much, much rather see us get a legit starting PF then a decent backup PG.

You guys who are so anxious to sign him - do you honestly think there aren't better/safer options out there for us to use our limited resources on?

We are a gazillion dollars over the cap. We have the MLE to use. We need to address the PF and we need to strengthen our bench.

What makes it logical to spend any money at all on Jay Williams?

you're right. the guy has just come off an injury. he could be a webber case. he may not be the same ever again. however his rookie year he did average 9 points in 24 minutes a game; which is pretty good for a rookie. how much did martin and evans and barnes average their first year with the kings? 3/4 points a game at most. at this moment i'd take jason williams over any of our backups on reputation alone.

First of all, were not a gizzilion dollars over the cap and second of all your an idiot. The MLE is going to be around 6 million dollars for us, we have the option to match on Songalia which Petrie will do if the price is right. Darius isn't going to get any offers over 3 million a year, so we can use the rest to sign a point gaurd. Now, who do you think is going to be more expensive, the likes of Juan Dixon who came off a pretty good year in Washington, or Jay Williams. I'll answer you stupid, Jay is. Now all I'm saying is I'd like the Kings to take a risk on a hard working guy who is mentally tough. Maybe he could teach Peja a thing or two about desire. And for the VF'er, your dumb, stop making up words like a gizzilion, unless your refering to the number of posts you've made. You obviosly spend a lot of time online, why don't you find out how much the Kings are actually over the cap, oh wait, there not.

is that after the wells trade?? even so thats not much, lthough once we sign whatshisname will be over bigtime

Think he meant $16M, not K.

Anyway, accoring to hoopshype right now we should be at about $59 mil (after the trade + Cisco), and I think the cap is going to be bumped up to something like $46-48mil under the new CBA.
