anybody else notice this about tyreke?

It may not be that he can't jump high, it might be that with a 6' 11" wingspan you know you dont' have to. Who knows though.

he doesn't get up really high when he dunks. i've watched a few highlight videos on YT, nba.com and noticed this ... not that it matters, just a observation. this kid has crazy handles..

He does, however, get pretty high when he's on Ustream with Donte and JT.

But anyway, I'm okay with his inability to jump high because I think he makes up for it with his dribbling ability

I'd rather have one of the quickest pg's in the league than the pg that can jump the highest. But at some point, he'll throw down something nasty in someone's face, but it won't be a regular occurance.

Even though he doesn't seem to possess jump out of the gym hops, he seems to have adequate hops, because he is a consistent finisher around the hoop. Also someone else mentioned the 6'11" wingspan. He dont gotta jump that high, he can reach up and dunk it at will. The way he is playing there will be all kinds of scrutiny of his jumper, dunks, and dribbling. I think the kid is a great athlete. He doesn't seem to get tired even when he's on an extended run. He seems to make jumpers when he's fresh of the bench and at the end of the game. I guess the Hops are not going to be "Dunk Contest Winner" hops, but most of those dunk contest winners turn out to be average players in the league with the exception of Jordan of coarse.

He can bring the ball across half court, set up the offense, they clear one side for him to operate, and he takes his man to the rack and he either scores, gets fouled, or dishes to a wide open shooter for an easy basket. Game one they were double teaming this kid! I haven't seen a point guard that can stay in front of him one on one yet. Even Chris Paul could not stay in front of him. He has electric speed, when combined with his length gets him to the hoop for a score more often then not. He is an awesome player !! I am excited about Tyreke and his upside, He is gonna get better!

When he and his team mates have played together for 20 or so games, he is going to be able to deliver some dimes that will be on ESPN Sportscenter. If you are open he will get you the ball. I thought he did well has PG, but he has more freedom to score at the 2. Him and Beno have played great together. Beno has stepped up his game too. So has JT and Nocioni. Tyreke is infectious! He is a player that makes the players around him better. Those kind of players are few and far between. I think we all can agree that Petrie picked the right guy. If only Young Hawes could step up his game the Kings would be set for the season. Hawes still has to figure out a few things in the post. Hawes needs to stop with the threes and and get some rebounds and put backs.

Yeah, have noticed and speculated on the same thing. Never dunks in traffic -- about the only time he does dunk is on an open breakaway, and when he does he doesn't exactly sky over the rim.

And hey, as a PG that would be pretty normal. As a 6'5" PG though that shows considerable lack of hops. Irrelevant however given his spped, strength, and ability with the ball, except to eliminate any real idea of having him go up and dunk in traffic to alleviate some of the missed layups.

If he was say 210LB instead of his 225 im sure he would get up easier then he does. Just suprising that he is so quick on the ground but doesn't get off the floor like his speed shows he should.

maybe he just lacks hops... his weight has little to do with it. he isnt out of shape and he runs pretty fast so i dont see how the weight would get in the way of him jumping.

shannon brown is 6'4 210 and he can jump over a house...

evans is listed at 6'6 220 and he can barely finish a layup...

maybe he just lacks hops....

If you want him to get higher on his dunks they will have to get somebody other than Hawes giving him lessons
Personally I don't care if he ever dunks as long as he gets 20-5-6l:p

When you jump in traffic, you come down in traffic. There are feet all over to land on and roll an ankle. I like Tyreke's game. He throws it down when its needed.

I agree. Lack of hops is obviously detrimental but having good ups rarely is a quality that people look for in a point guard. Look at Jason Kidd who is also huge for a pg...even in his younger days he didn't dunk in traffic too often. He was still a very effective pg.

long arms.... big body for a point... i dont see the need for him to go high... yet

heck the last king to ever go high is Brad...

and i dont mean the high.... that is good

Thats plain ignorance of the past 5 or so games right there. If that were the case he would be averaging less than 13 ppg over that stretch.

I'm more concerned by the fact that he doesn't seem to use his left hand when he's laying the ball up from the left side. He's going to sprain his back if he keeps twisting to finish with his right hand.

One thing I've noticed about Tyreke is that he has absolutely no left hand. Whenever he goes to the left side of the rim he tries to throw up junk with his right hand. Sometimes it works but most of the time it does not. He's much stronger finishing with his right hand. Once he learns how to finish with his left he will be that much harder to guard.

LOL, sorry, I just now noticed your thread above mine. I agree 100%.

That is what makes me most excited about his future. His main problems are his handle, left hand, and finishing at the rim .. All things that can be worked on and fixed relatively easily

tell that to Ben Wallace, lol.... Speaking of Ben, does Evans have small hands? That could be why he doesn't finish well at the rim. Maybe he can't change the shot because he can't palm the ball. I haven't taken the time to look at his hands and how he uses the to shoot layups. The 2 times that I've seen him dunk they were 2 handed dunks on the break.

Has he had any one handed jams? That would make it hard to finish with his left hand as well if his hands are too small to grip the ball properly.

Maybe, but I seem to remember reading where when he was young his brothers tied his right hand so he'd have to use his left. That was supposed to improve his left. But, if i'm remembering correctly, it didn't seem to work.

Im totally fine with Tyreke "lacking hops". Guys that can jump out of the gym are more likely to incur serious injury. However, imagine what Evans would be like if he could combine his ability to get to the hoop with explosive dunking.

I thought I was dreaming and suddenly we were back in the TDOS. Is everyone that bored already that were talking about how high a player can jump. Whatever, have fun...:D
