Any stars we could trade for?

Now I know you guys are all going to tell me yeah we're a young team we don't need to trade or FA etc... but if we saw someone out there on the trade market who wanted out, and we thought they'd pair well with Reke, like when Shaq was on the market and the Heat got him to pair with DWade, could we pull the trigger? At the moment it looks mainly like FA but with dissapointing playoff losses for some teams or lottery team type players you never know. We have a lot of young talent we could package to get that guy too IMO.

Someone I would love to work a deal for is Josh Smith. Consiering he is a huge part of their recent playoff success and what he brings to the Hawks, I doubt its possible. However, If Joe Johnson leaves the Hawks high and dry this off season we might be able to sign and trade a FA or our 1st rounder (depending on who we get) to make a deal with the Hawks. Wishful thinking, I know. I just love Josh Smith.

I would keep an eye on Pryzbilla in Portland, because it looks like they want to resign Camby, and also look at Millsap because I think Utah might resign Boozer. I have always liked Millsap, and would love if the Kings can work something out with Utah. I also like the idea of going after Pryzbilla. A Cousins/Millsap frontline, or Pryzbilla/Favors would be exciting IMO.

There is also Gortat and Bass in Orlando. I think it's likely Orlando looks to move one of them.

Minnesota will also be interesting given, their interest in resigning Darko, and publicly admitting Love/Jefferson doesn't work. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them becomes available, especially if they get the 3rd or 4th pick, and both Wall and Turner are gone, and they choose eith Cousins or Favors.

A lot depends on whether we draft a sg(Turner), a pf(Favors), or a c(Cousins). I think there will be options for trading for a quality pf or center. maybe not a star, but a quality starter that is better than what we have.

There is also the option of absorbing contracts since the cap will be about 3M higher than expected. How about absorbing a 2011 expiring such as Dalembert? Rent him for a year, and then go after a 2011 FA, which might be a smart move, given the possibility of the nba re-doing the collective bargaining agreement.

There will be options for trading for a young pf or c IMO. There is also the option of absorbing an expiring contract for a year. Both options I like. But at this point, I don't know how smart it would be to get caught overspending for a FA this summer, given what might happen the following summer. I think a few teams will royally screw themselves this offseason by overpaying in the FA market.

Its not a question of not needing to trade, but it is of having other avenues to really improve this offseason -- high lottery pick and big FA $$.

And it should be noted actually that that pick is also now our #1 trade piece, and I would not be entirely shocked to see us use it as such. As much as a top pick would really help, I think Geoff is looking to turn the corner. If you could swing it, and a bad contract like Noc, for Al Jefferson, would we do it? Dunno. Don;t even know if its a good idea. But do know its a sure thing, as opposed to the draft. If we fell to 6th, and we offered it to Memphis for Thabeet and their #12? or whatever. Gotta wonder. Would not surprise me at all if its in play for the right return/package.

What if we were to land number 1 in the draft and then pull an Orlando Magic Penny for Webber trade where you get a 1st or 2 in the future by trading back? And then you can send your next year's #1 and that other team's along with young players and cap room or something? I'm not even sure who would be available, just really asking is it feasible? Because I think with Reke being as good as he is already, and some of our other guys starting to mature, we're ready to try to be a winner again and that would be really nice.
