Antoine Walker a King????

can a unrestricted free agent be sign and traded by a different team? or would the different team have to wait to trade the free agent after he is signed during the off season?

sign and trading walker and thomas for kg sounds nice....

having corliss and skinner off of the bench with bobby, darius and evans would be cool... but how would we re-sign darius? hmmm.....

No, can;t sign a FA off the market and trade him. Or at least couoldn;t unde the old CBA. Assume that's still the same. Some 3 or 6 or something month long waiting period.

Aw, what happened to my 'Antoine Walker is the Worst Player in the NBA' thread? I want to just paste a link to it to express my feelings on this rumor. :D

I'd take him for the MLE, but he'd get that elsewhere. He wouldn't be hte worst fit, but if we took him, I'd rather have him play about 30min and he wouldn't stand for that.

If it weren't for the inclusion of the Knicks in this rumor of preparing an offer for 'Toine, I wouldn't believe any of it and I'd pass it off Walker just talking, no big deal. But Isiah expressed interest in trading for Walker at some point last season and now that it looks like Kurt Thomas is going to the Suns, that part makes sense. Because part of what he's telling people is probably true, I'm more worried. Imagine us using a lineup with Ostertag, Corliss and Antoine across the frontline for any stretch of a game.

Hopefully on Tuesday we pick a power forward like Villanueva or Taft and make it so there's absolutely no room for another big forward.

Hmm...

Kings trade: Kenny Thomas, Greg Ostertag, Bobby Jackson
Celtics trade: Antoine Walker + change
Twolves trade: Kevin Garnett

Kings get: Kevin Garnett
Celtics get: Kenny Thomas, Greg Ostertag, Bobby Jackson
Twolves get: Antoine Walker + change

But why would Minnie do it???

They wouldn't. They basically give up Garnett for Walker. Nobody would do that unless they . . .

I can't really think of any reason to complete that thought.

Even if the Kings pick a PF on Tuesday it doesn't necessarily mean that they won't go after another PF via free agency or trade. I think it's a stretch to believe that whoever the Kings pick on Tuesday will step into the starting lineup. With that said, it's entirely possible that they will draft a PF and then go out and either sign a PF or trade for one that will come in and start.

Well if the TWolves fire Kevin McHale and then hire Antoine Walker's mom as the GM then ....well actually you're right ...there is no way to complete that thought. I don't even think Toine's mama would do that.

. . . have absolutely no choice because their family is being held by aliens who will transport them to the planet Zinon unless the deal goes through.

And, on a totally unrelated note: Yes, that is a "I love Zinon" badge I'm wearing. Colorful, isn't it?

Yeah I have to agree with you. If the Kings pick a PF in the draft I don't think at #23 we would be looking at someone that would be a starter.

You know what, my initial reaction to this idea was about the same as everyone elses. HELL NO!!!

But as I have been thinking about the idea I think that this could easily turn into another one of those moves that sound like crap but Petrie proves to be right yet again. Walker has a very good low post game and can pass. Sure he has his bad points but if Antoine Walker was a King next year, al beit, for A VERY REASONABLE CONTRACT, I wouldn't be too disatisfied.

I still think that our only hope to improve on D is, as Petrie said and I have believed all along, as a TEAM. Bringing in a few players to fill some holes can work for awhile, as seen with Brian Skinner and Otag, but if the other 4 guys on the court refuse to play defense than there's no hope.

Bibby, Miller, and Peja, along with everyone else, have to step it up on D. That is the only choice.

First I will throw up, then I will strap myself with dynamite, go all the way to new york, stand on the tallest building, and then jump off if we sign walker.

Couple questions:

1. When would you detonate the dynamite? Upon impact? Or mid-fall so that you attract everyone's attention with the fireball and your screams on the way down before your flaming corpse finally smacks to the ground with a resounding crunch?

2. Wouldn't it have more of an impact if you were to make your leap in either downtown Boston or Sacramento?

The guy doesn't have to step in as a starter, he just has to take up a spot on the roster. We've got Thomas, Williamson, Skinner, Miller, Ostertag, Stojakovic under contract in the frontcourt. Only Bibby, Jackson, Martin in the backcourt. Drafting another forward and then using the MLE to sign Antoine Walker means we have very little means for improving a shaky backcourt and 8 frontcourt players (of the maximum 15) under contract without signing another SF to backup Peja.

Trades.

Walker = Mobley/J-Will reloaded.

Pros:
- Handles the ball like a guard
- VERY good passing ability for a big man
- Has low post game
- Has 3 point range
- would fit the offence well

Cons:
- average rebounder
- average defender
- extremely questionable shot selection
- Has a me-first attitude
- Below average shot-blocker

I can see how he would fit our system offensively but he does bugger all for our defence.

In reality (as bad as he is) he still is the best PF free agent that would be available for us to sign or trade for. If we could get him at a reasonable price of say 5-6 Million per season then he could be a better option that K9 and if we could trade one of our back contracts in the process to get him then we would be better off.

Having said that, I would still rather have someone who is a defensive force in the low post and gives you a double-double as well as being a good shot-blocker.

Look at the bright side, even if we do get Walker, he still holds some decent trade currency.

I do wonder...he got dumped by Dallas, then traded off off the worst team in the league in the space of a year. The gig may well be up with him.

In any case, as a 20pt scorer, on however many shots it takes him, and a very good passer for a big man, you could get him, add him to the three core guys, and have a "good' team of a sort. Of a sort I say, because what you would have is a junkballing team playing a variety of basketball best defined as "bull**** ball" -- a bunch of pansy consciousless jumpshooters getting their *** kicked in every aspect of the game not involving chucking up 25 footers. We'd score a lot of points to keep the more shallow fans happy, beat the bad teams in stupid shootouts, and then get squashed like the miserable bugs we were whenever we ran into a serious squad focused on what they were doing. You aren't ever going to be a serious team or a serious contender with a team built like that -- its just garbage playground ball.

If you want to win big you get defensive and you pound people in the halfcourt. Its not negotiable. Nohing at all wrong with being able to shoot and run the fastbreak as well -- these are good bonuses...but the base, the frame, has to feature the ability to win a halfcourt war. Every championship team in the modern history of the NBA has had that ability. Excelled at it in most cases. Running up and down and chucking up long jumpers is for the tourists.

The Knicks, reportedly about to send Kurt Thomas to Phoenix for Quentin Richardson, make particular sense to the Walker camp. Sacramento and its passing game make sense from a style standpoint.

Yeah right, He would fit our passing style. And he is the defensive player were looking for.

First Payton, now Walker...what's the deal with these guys telling everyone Sacramento is one of their options? Do they think "the Maloofs are rich Vegas guys, they'd probably add a guy like me regardless of the luxury tax" or something?
