I sure didn't like Mo's reaction when he got called for basket hanging, though. The game was way to close to afford getting a tech for cursing at the refs (no, it wasn't that hard to read what his lips were saying!).

But he just did so many other things that were smart, that I can't get too far down on him for letting his emotions get out of control in that one incident. He played great defense and hustled after the ball, drew that great offensive foul (I think it was Thomas), and used his athleticism to score some key baskets.

Great job mo, and keep your head up!

Webber was a huge part of the win tonight. He was doing his job on and off the court, shouting encouragement to the other players and keeping the communication going between plays, etc. He talked a lot to RA, and they really looked like a commander-in-chief and his field general planning an assault.

If it had been a good call, I don't think there would have been a problem IMHO. But, I didn't think Mo was trying to show off, as I mentioned in the PBP thread. I think he was waiting to make sure the area was clear before dropping back down.

I think you misread my post.

I know he got a tech for basket hanging, but yelling at the refs, gesturing wildly with his arms, and cursing (yes, he yelled "that's bull...t!"), and trying to show up the refs is a great way for a newer player to learn a lesson. It was stupid, and I'm not backing down on that. You will never win a war with against the refs.

But I don't want to blow it out of proportion. Like I said, he did way too many other smart things for me to get down on him about it. Get it?

Thats why that is called a "rookie move" I'll worry about it if he does that in his 3rd year.

Adelman referenced it after the game, saying that was about Mo's only mistake but that he'll learn.

Thank God Bavetta wasn't officiating that game. The refs showed some restraint. They could have given him the second T and put him out of the game.

That was a rough call. He had as perfect a game as you can have.

He was great, also slowed Marbury. Overall a good game for everybody, except for the third quarter lapse. Still the kings didn't panic just played their game and pulled ahead at the end. Also Tags 10 rebounds and 4 points. Special k played more like a rooky tonite but still expect great things from him in the future. Hope Rick continues to go to the bench.

Back on point, it can't be overemphasized just how important a development Webb stepping up in the clutch could become. Its almost the sine qua nom of the great player, the champion -- be able to step up in the clutch. ESPECIALLY when its the guy who has the ball in his hands all the time. If we can hold it together and have 2 of our 3 top ballhandlers (Bibby/Webb) routinely hitting clutch shots down the stretch, that makes us so much more dangerous than we have been at the end of games. Make the other team sweat in those last 30 seconds for once, wondering if our guys are going to step up and beat them with the clutch shot.

You know what? THe last year or so, even Doug has been approaching-something-akin to clutch at the end of games.

In the past I'd have to say that DC was quite possible the single LEAST clutch player in the league. His free throw percentage was 90% IN SPITE OF the fact that he shot approximately 22% in the last minute of games. He also avoided shooting at the end of games, with good reason. When he DID shoot in the last 2-mis of close games the resulting clanks knocked out loose fillings in the cheap seats... when he caught rim at all. He was a panic laden spaz at the end of close games.
(Please note that I say all this in spite of the fact that Doug is my current favorite King. I love the guy, perhaps in part BECAUSE he seemed so human at the end of games. Human to such an extent that he semed like a Shakespearian characterization.)

However, this year and last I've noticed him stepping up big at the end of games, even in the playoffs. Its been enough to just about get me all misty, the old lug.
