And "The Narrative" has changed

Everybody needs to read this article. But if you don't have time. Here's the main nugget, quote from Cuz:

"Biggest thing, DC is our floor general," Cousins said. "He's communicating with us, he's leading us every night. He's the head of the snake right now, and he's doing a tremendous job defending the basketball. Everybody's stepping up, everybody's buying in, everybody's locked in."

That's leader talk right there. He's backing his PG. Giving credit. You WANT to play for a guy like that. When they make the movie about Demarcus's life, this will be the year. This will be the point in the movie where the music changes.

Oh, I'm stealing that. :)

Our win against Portland looks even more impressive after they easily accounted for the Cavs

I agree, but the way the Cavs played that game, I don't think the Kings will meet them in the finals. I watched that game and I, too, came to the conclusion that the Kings are playing a really clever game. Tight defense and complete dominance on the boards. The rest will work out even on a bad shooting night.

............. and then decided to also completely abandon who he was guarding to help someone else.
I've seen this problem with almost all of our back court players and I'm glad it is beginning to stop now ---> last season there was always one of our back court players untimely or prematurely abandoning their own man to help someone else. The domino effect was always devastating and discouraging to the whole team. It was chaotic.

I'm glad that IT has been replaced by the pesky all-out-effort-in-defense Collison and our new PG is leading McLemore/Stauskas to do the same. McLemore/Stauskas may not be known good defenders, but clearly their utmost effort to defend is there now. These two have embraced the idea of working very hard on defense and I cannot complain.

To go back to the main topic, I'm glad the narrative has changed as expected.

The Narrative has changed back again.

Chad ford called Stauskas "terrible" in his chat today and picked Cuz as his "all nba knucklehead" captain.

status quo, I've missed you.

There was a study once, and I am not going to dig it up so you'll just have to believe me, that teams that high five and make other celebratory contact/gestures often perform better than teams that don't.

I tried getting my bowling teams to do this but nobody wants to high five after leaving a 7-10 split.

I vaguely recall such a study in an intro psychology class years ago.

I'm equally happy to enjoy this amongst ourselves. Chad Ford is a tool anyways.

I checked it out, really wasn't that bad. Ziller poked him and he responded with:

I said he was the captain of the all-knucklehead team in a piece we recorded before the season began. I hardly would call it bashing. Cousin's record of immaturity on the court is well documented and while he's put up very good numbers in the NBA, I still think his talent suggests and has always suggested that he could be a Top 5 player in the league. If he can take a team on his back, as he's helped do early this season, then great. I think he has the talent and has shown signs of more maturity. But I'm not ready to make that judgement four games into the season. It's a long year and the Kings are in a brutal conference. If he and the Kings are playing like this in April, I'll be the first to write that Cousins has matured and is finally becoming the elite talent we all thought he could be someday.

Kind of more the preparation to retrench than anything. Also later tagged us as a surprise team while again hedging his bets. Not actually knowing much, Ford often hedges his bets so he can quickly hop around to the other side when he's wrong, which is a lot.

That's just lazy. Cousins has been nothing but a good citizen on the court this season.

Little early to trash Nik. But what can you do?

So all the Kings have to do is continue playing .750 till April and then he'll admit Cousins has arrived? Sure, no problem.

Cousins HAS matured. I just have doubts whether Chad Ford has actually watched a Kings game to know one way or the other.

It could be that those celebratory contact/gestures is the result of good performance. But then again, celebratory contact/gestures can also encourage good performance, which makes success and celebratory contact parts of a positive feedback loop. That's why its so beneficial for the Kings to be winning against "good" teams early on.

I'm not sure exactly what that's supposed to mean though. Is winning a byproduct of more high fives or are more high fives a byproduct of winning?

I'd go with the latter. I'd also say this branches off to chemistry, and while some will argue good chemistry and guys getting along is important to winning, it's damn hard to have good chemistry if you're not winning. High fives, feeling good, getting along, positive chemistry are generally a result of having talent and winning with that talent, or at least accomplishing goals.

3 out of 4 say playoffs :D
That sh*t on that panel was saying the problem with the Kings is 1,2, and 4.

Clearly, he wasn't watching and paying attention. Collison has been one of the positives in this team and he is playing the 1. I don't know how he missed that,

The narrative all off season was that we dramatically took a step back at pg. We got a significantly weaker offensive player than what we had, so the story goes. And not only that, Collison was supposed to be a terrible defender as well.

From where I'm sitting in my living room, DC certainly is a major step up defensively, and also is a much better fit with boogie and rudy. But it's hard to see that when you just look at box scores.

Soooooo, is it, were winning because we have good chemistry, or we have good chemistry because were winning?

To me, it's simply goes along with team chemistry. If the players are truly enjoying how the team is flowing, they'll be more engaged with one another

I think it does become a chicken and egg thing but I'm certain the study did account for teams on similar levels rather than just look at the best and worst teams.

I know this is a little different but I can't help but think back to football and when Peyton Manning was younger he liked to throw his teammates under the bus after a tough loss whereas now he is the first one to say he had a bad game. There are some really good teams that have chemistry issues and that may be a difference getting over the hump. And you occasionally get a group of overachievers largely because they fit well together. The next year they may add talent but collapse as a team.

I'm feeling a lot better about what is likely to happen when this team hits a tough stretch this year than I did last year. They seem so far to be enjoying each other and buying into the system and there is a hierarchy.

I doubt we'll hear shouting come spilling out of the locker room, like we did last year while Malone was being interviewed in the hall

It's a panel full of idiots. The fact that 3 out of 4 idiots think the Kings will make the playoffs bodes well for the narrative surrounding our team.
