And "The Narrative" has changed

I don't know whether he's mentally weak or not; he might be, might not. I don't necessarily equate thinking too much (which I think McLemore is doing) to being mentally weak.

I do think that he'd be a lot more confident if he weren't looking over his shoulder every possession. He wouldn't be the first high draft pick to play tight because he knows that, if he makes two mistakes in a row, he's going to get yanked. I don't think it's a coincidence that McLemore was most productive offensively, both during summer league and the preseason, when he and Stauskas were on the court at the same time.

Even in the preseason and summer league he didn't really look all that special, he had his spurts but that's all it was. He wasn't looking over his shoulder much last year, was he....he would get yanked because he couldn't control his fouling and then decided to also completely abandon who he was guarding to help someone else.

Well that's yet to be determined if it has changed in many minds of national writers and commentators, let's wait a bit here. There is no question that Cousins and Gay's exposure to the national scene on Team USA has gotten them and the team some positive feedback.

I'm the realist police, forgive me if I can't get excited yet...we've only been losing for eight straight seasons..

Well, if anything, you're being the fun police. Kings fans haven't had a lot to look forward to basketball-wise since RonRon was traded to the Rockets. Let us have our fun and hopes and (most likely unrealistic) dreams of a playoff berth. We deserve it.

I also think about the fact that Ben is on social media a lot, as are all people his age. It's hard not to see/hear the criticism and jokes and people calling for his head in favor of the guy who was just drafted. We can all recall how hard it was for Cousins to overcome criticism in the media. He became incensed at the media for what they were saying about him. Even going after Sean Elliot.

It's impossible not to hear or be told of what's going on these days and that just adds a little extra pressure and tightness. It doesn't make him weak. Makes him human. Cousins and IT both were affected by things said on social media and those are strong willed individuals.

Not sure why you're having trouble comprehending my posts... never said you need to be forgiven for remaining unexcited. Did I? I'm saying you're not the excitement police. I hope you can understand.

He's a timid young man, which probably didn't hinder him much before the NBA, because of his explosive athleticism. Just being a dunker and a high flyer alone, won't carry anyone in this league.

Personally, I'm not expecting much from him, in terms of being our top shooting guard in the future

Real question. How do we know he's timid?

We deserve it no question, I'm just trying not to get too excited too early here in hopes that we don't get let down later...that's all. We should roll with a mindset that we are done with losing and actually mean it, that means not getting excited after a week of basketball, for me at least but to each his/her own!

If I don't like what you have to say I may certainly respond to your posts if I wish.

This is the second time I've seen you make such a comment in the last three or four days, and I don't understand why you seem to be under the impression that you get to control the flow of the conversation?

I fully expect there will be letdowns. There were letdowns routinely during the glory years too.

But one week into the season it is feeling hard to ignore that fundamentally this team is different. And yes, a lot of that has to do with casting out the rejects from the Maloof/Petrie era, no matter how much some busted on Vivek for saying so outright a few weeks ago.

Winning starts from within. This organization has a winning attitude and its contagious. I'm not making victory parade plans, but I do feel this team has turned a mental corner that was holding it down for nearly a decade.

because this is an open forum...?
And, as I pointed out to you the other day, that works both ways: you get to say what you want, within the boundaries of the rules of the forum, and other people get to say what they want to you, right back, also within those same boundaries. You don't get to just say whatever and then be, like, "Well, if you don't like it, too bad, just shut up and take it," which is the semantic equivalent to "If you don't like my post, don't respond."

How about, if you don't want people to respond to your posts, then why don't you take it upon yourself to not post? You can't make people not reply to you. If you want to say whatever you want, and people not be allowed to respond however they see fit, you'll have better luck with a blog.

Without knowing him personally or being part of the team (staff etc),....all we can go on, is what we see. That's pretty much what we do with all analysis and opinions of what we see and think is going on with players.

The "eye test". I don't believe that the pro stats analysis guy that we hired, has a formula for "timid", but maybe he does? :D

because when I am not as excited as a other posters on here so early and I claim that we should hold off on too much excitement I am viewed as a negative poster?

It's the whole idea that you think you can/should tell other people how to feel about their team that I was pointing out as incorrect.

Seems similar to what Slim has been noticing about you: signs that you think you can/need to control the conversation/other people.

I just wanted to make it clear to any others around here that they should not take you seriously at all when you go around telling them not to be excited about their team.

And again, it's not about you being not excited. You have the right to be as unexcited as you want... it's about you telling everyone else to not be excited. That's the negative part. And yes, you are a negative poster when you do that. That's pretty much the definition of a negative poster.

Pretty sure this was Europe's attitude regarding Germany in the 1930s

People are excited enough about the Kings to stick around the forum and get into pointless flame wars? Things really are changing!!

Also, Legler keeps referring to us as a 'young' team, but I don't think that's true anymore. Our youngest key contributor is probably Casspi, and he's 25 (the Macs and Stauskas have made a few good plays but they're not why we're winning). Were basically in the middle of the league by average age.

These guys who are winning games are all in their primes. They've been around, know how to play, and are all hungry to build a winner.

Oh, except for DeMarcus. Who looked MVP-caliber against the Clippers.

There's an almost incalculable difference between NEW fans and BANDWAGON fans. We were each new fans once, but a lot of us could never be termed bandwagon fans. I hate bandwagon fans with every fiber of my being, with my definition of them being a fan who only becomes a fan when the team is winning, is only heard from when the team is winning, etc.

Just sayin' ...
I honestly wouldn't mind a new wave of bandwagon fans at all. Our arena could use some filled seats during the game, sheesh.
I wouldn't mind bandwagon fans. A lot of people are kings' fans, but have stopped supporting and watching because of the poor a** products the Magoofs have put out for years. However, there are always those people who all of a sudden become interested when teams start winning...ex: the 49ers.. there used to be arguments with Raider fans on which team sucked worse...

The only problem I have with more bandwagoners or more fans supporting are the rise of ticket prices. That'll suck.
