When I think back to Brad Miller in the 2007-08 campaign that has ended for the Kings center, my synapses will fire off this memory (and, no, not the one from above that started the season on a hair-raising...

Yeah good job Brad ! Now trade him Petrie !

Brad finally got semi serious about his conditioning and game... and got himself back to being a top Center in this league. But like the last post i've grown tired of watching Brad get abused over and over in the paint on offense and defense.

Brad's got all this money, time, and talent, that most centers will never get near... yet he never got strong enough to dominate down low on offense or challenge on defense in the paint. Or even in the physical shape you'd expect of someone who was getting paid millions to be a pro athlete.

I will always think about his quote after losing in the playoffs... Brad said he was planning on hitting the weights and getting stronger only to come into camp in terrible shape.

A person would have to be blind to disagree with upinsmoke.
Brad has played decent D this year. He hasnt been amazing but that is not what he is here to do. blind hatred is ripping on the same player over and over again, not choosing t recognize that that player actually did a number of good things this year.

Brad DID have a near all-star year on a mediocre team, through no fault of his own. For the Kings to win big they have to run the game thru Brad and get back into passing the ball and spacing. But he does need defensive help and much of the time Mikki or the forwards/RonRon were not in position to stop a layup. Smart ball by the other teams.

Brad probably has 2 more good years in those legs, IF the stress fracture heals properly.

Remember, Brad is still on the Olympic team as one of the 22. Only 12 will play but Brad fits the international game better than most centers and is one of the very few centers who is pass first and sets mean screens. Had he not gotten the stress fracture, he likely could have been one of the two true centers on the olympic team. :)

a) Brad was not even remotely in the discussion for All Star. His All Stars were a product of a freaky time when thorugly mediocre players could make it just because fo the dearth of big men. In a conference with Yao and Amare and Camby and Caveman and Bynum and Chandler and Oden next year and....just no. Never.

b) he nonetheless had rthe bounceback year he, and we, needed...in order to trade him before he starts to decline. See a power struggle developing between Geoff and Reggie on that front though.

c) Brad's defense still sucks, but it was considerably better this year, and combined with the fact that he is the only King not allergic to rebounding, according to 82games.com his presence was nearly as important to our defense as Ron's. Which does not remotely say he is a good defender in there compared to the rest of the league. Just that as the only legitimate starting big we have, it actually got worse for us when he went to the bench this season.

Then what is he here to do?

Sounds like we're now talking about Artest.:D
This has nothing to do with Artest. who btw, If he were not crazy, I would love to have him on this team.)

Miller ought to be traded next year for the future of this team. I would say though, that it out of some sort of bias that anyone would say Brad didnt have a good year for us. He did.
