Allen Ray

I kinda like this young cat better than old mike wilks! any other King fans want him? he had a couple of 20pt games, and scored 10 or more 14 times. looks ok at D.

Ever since he came into the league I wanted Ray Allen and Allen Ray to be on the same team. Stay with the C's!!

I woke up this morning and thought to myself: "Self? You know who would be a perfect fit for the Kings as a backup point guard? An undrafted free agent end-of-the-bencher, who wasn't even good enough for the Celtics. Yeah, I'm all over that guy!"

Pass.

Mike Wilks wasn't good enough for the Sonics, or a lot of other teams for that matter. I say give Allen Ray a shot, couldn't hurt. I'd like to see the Kings get Dee Brown though..

This is just silly, IMHO. Some people are acting as though every player cut by another team is a diamond in the rough worth bringing to the Kings.

Mike Wilks might well surprise some of you. Petrie does pretty well in assessing which players might reach their potential with us. Doug Christie, Bobby Jackson, John Salmons, and others have all more than met and in a lot of cases exceeded fan expectations once they came to the Kings.

This "I say give ____________ a shot" might work in video games but it's just not gonna happen in the real NBA. Sometimes wash-out players like Allen Ray are just wash-out players.

Ray has talent though, look at his game log. He had a couple nice games to end the season and he was good in college.

I don't get why signing a 5 year veteran of the wash-out would be better than signing the one year version of the burn out.

Lets just say Im not exactly enamored with either Mike Wilks or Allen Ray.

And yet, he couldn't even stay on the Celtics. Doesn't that say more than a couple of nice games to end the season?

I'm not really that sold on Wilks yet, but I think I can understand why we might sign him. I've bought into the "interim veteran" idea as being a logical way to give the kids time to become better without making it so difficult for them to get past the vets that they'll never see any time.

Bottom line, my real objection is that no matter who gets cut from what team, someone invariably has to think that particular player would be a great addition to the Kings. And more often than not, it's simply not true. Sometimes one man's trash is just ... well ... another man's trash.

;)

I'm not saying Allen Ray would be a great addition to the team. Since it looks like we may sign Wilks, I was just really comparing the 2 players, and which one I'd like to have of the 2. I just think that Allen Ray has a better chance of panning out than a Mike Wilks. But as I said before, if it were up to me, I'd pick option C and sign Dee Brown. Whatever. I trust Petrie's judgment (excluding a couple of trades he made)

I was really bummed when I read the Celtics cut him last night.

Not because he had game or anything like that, I just thought it would be fun to have Allan Ray and Ray Allen on the same club.

eta: oops missed that venom pointed it out first, but really "NO! It can't be!" was my immediate thought upon seeing it on the sports ticker.

You know, you just might be onto something. What if Ray Allen demanded that Allan Ray be cut because of the potential for confusion?

;)

On a SLIGHTLY related note, I always thought it would be fun to have Andre Miller, Reggie Miller, Mike Miller, Anthony Miller and Brad Miller on the same team.

PG: Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf
SG: ???
SF: Tariq Abdul-Wahad
PF: Shareef Abdur-Rahim
C: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

If all in their prime, that would be one hell of a team, with some filler at SG (Paula Abdul?)

Nice job.

:D

Allan Ray isn't just some scrub who got cut from a team of mostly 20 year old nobodies. He's actually a pretty good young player. He was cut because Ray Allen just took his spot in the rotation so that's his competition, not a bunch of scrubs, one of the best SG in the league. But considering he's another undersized SG, we have no use for him unless you'd like to push guys like Douby, Shakur, and Francisco even further back into the rotation.

he's dead??? .. I remember reading his name in something a while back, but I thought it said it was his brother??

Both are dead. Bison was just never found.

Disappearance in the South Pacific

In July 2002, Dele and his girlfriend, Serena Karlan, sailed on the South Pacific Ocean along with skipper Bertrand Saldo on Dele's catamaran, the Hakuna Matata. Dele's brother, Miles Dabord (born Kevin Williams), was the only person involved in the voyage who was seen or heard from after July 8, when the party was in Tahiti. Dele and Karlan had previously kept regular contact with their banks and family members. On July 20, Dabord was by himself when he brought the boat into Tahiti.

On September 5, police used a sting operation organized by Dele's family and friends to detain Dabord in Phoenix, Arizona. Dabord had forged his brother's signature in order to buy $152,000 worth of gold under his brother's name. He had used Dele's passport as identification. Mexican police later found that Dabord had been staying at a hotel in Tijuana, Mexico. Two days before, the Hakuna Matata, which had been registered in Tahiti under another name, was found off the coast of Tahiti with its name plate removed and some possible bullet holes patched. About the same time, Dabord phoned Patricia Phillips, the mother of Dabord and Dele, telling her that he would never hurt his brother and that he could not survive in prison.

The FBI, which did not usually handle missing-persons cases, became involved in the investigation regarding Dele along with the French authorities and concluded that Dele, Karlan and Saldo were probably killed, and then thrown overboard, by Dabord. Given that the bodies were likely dumped in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, it would be highly unlikely that the three would ever be found.

Dabord, the only major source of information regarding the case, intentionally overdosed on insulin and slipped into a coma. On September 27, 2002, he died in a California hospital. After Dabord's suicide, officials did not expect to find much more regarding the case. A memorial service was then held for both Dabord and Dele.

Dabord and Dele were frequently at odds with each other. After Dabord's death, his lawyer and life-long best friend, Paul White, was questioned regarding his client but gave little information about what happened. Dabord had said that he knew for sure that Dele and Karlan were in French Polynesia, but not much more other than that he was trying to help Dele.
