I Would try and trade him ASAP . I think his issues are far more than just being immature, he clearly has a negative effect on team chemistry. he is just not gonna get better here. He needs to go to a team with proven vets, where there isn't as much pressure on him to be a superstar performer. For fans clinging to the hope that he puts it all together and we all of a sudden become a title contender are just insane. if we trade him this season, it provides a clean slate for him, and we will surely see a kings team with alot of spirt I have no doubt, a team that will unite and play hard and together every night. We can get some good pieces back and maybe unload some of our bad contracts, potentially get a draft pick and we know we will have another chance at the lottery next year.
don't know if you know this... but if you don't. its pretty damn hard to get elite talent here in sac. we could have a bunch of middle of the road talent and be really good at being mediocre like we were back in 06. peja, bibby, miller- great at trying to scratch the 8th, 7th seed year in and year out. if we can get some elite talent in return, i'd be all for it.

what we really need to do is unload the log jam redundant pg & sf's we've accumulated and balance the team out with some good vets, a real coach and some owners willing to spend to do it.

SF salmons, garcia, james johnson, travis outlaw & honeycutt
PG brooks, reke, IT, fredette

brooks, it, fredette, garcia, salmons, outlaw either of these could go to free up some consistency in the rotations.

Is there a link where he says he refuses treatment? Considering his situation, as according to Smart, was supposed to be so hush hush, I'm surprised we know anything about what has been suggested to him. This isn't something that males want to do and I wouldn't give up on the suggestion. Although I am losing faith in Cousins, I never had faith in the organization. How much does it cost to have a competent coach? Saving money here may cost us a great player. Stupid.
It was said in an Amick article that he refused "the offer" of treatment. That doesn't mean he won't seek treatment privately, could also mean he's not interested in treatment of the kind that was offered, could mean he thinks there's nothing wrong.

purely speculation at this point unless cousins himself speaks on it, which i can't imagine he would. Unless anyone on here knows Cousins personally, we're all just speculating on how he wants to move forward.

gotta give it up to the goof brothers. they haven't saved any money on coaches. they can em a year into it with multiple years left on the contract. muss, canned with years left, theuss same, westphal same. they are basically paying multiple coach contracts when it could be spent on a quality one instead. had they got on their knees and begged adelman back, we might not b in this predicament.

It's about time we discussed basketball. It seems clear to me that because we have a poor coach, a GM who has retired early, an aging arena, and bad owners, people won't come here. I wouldn't if I had other options. The Cousins' problem must be a welcome distraction for the Maloofs who REALLY are what is holding this team back.

That's the irony, isn't it? The investment in one competent veteran coach would have let the team pay only one coach and it would have added wins to the w/l column and thereby increasing the attendance.

"When the practice court was opened to media today, Cousins was seen working individually with Kings assistant Clifford Ray and a player development coach. The Kings big man spent approximately 20 to 30 minutes with Ray after press was allowed in the gym. However at one point, tempers flared noticeably between the two, as Cousins and Ray paused the workout for a brief, but heated exchange. Cowbell Kingdom"

first day back and he's causing problems, great

Look on the board for the posts on him refusing treatment. Loose lips. I'm not surprised in the least. The competent coach rationalization for Cousins' behavior doesn't wash. Those dots don't connect.

Now he comes back and can't even get along with Clifford Ray. Happy days.

Just had a little peruse of the Chad Ford weekly chat and Cuz came up.

Only interesting thing he said was that "he'd heard" (yeah yeah) that the "GM and owners are split on what they would want in return for Cousins"

I am not going to look throughout this forum. I saw a comment that he refused treatment but there was no link. Help a guy out. :) So much of this forum is self started rumor. I know damn well I could talk him into treatment and I sure as hell would not suggest it in the middle of a fit. I'm looking for a little context. Take your note: you conclude he can't get along with Ray. That is not what was said. I'm not saying he CAN get along with Ray but when you take two guys yelling at each other and say they can't get along, you have made a leap in your understanding. He had yelling match with Calipiri and they got along fine. Let's be careful in what we conclude. Cousins is bad enough without turning hiom into a monster or at least a bigger monster than he is.

Whoever posted the note that he refused treatment must occasionally read this forum.

I just wanted to say a few things.

1) Cousins and Cal didn't have a great relationship. It worked, but I wouldn't say Cal 'could handle him'. It was a hugely different situation. They argued with each other all the time, and Cal only had Cousins for a year (even less, really) and the team was stacked. How much are you going to ***** and moan when your team is killing other teams.

2) The difference between this situation and the one with Westphal is that I truly believe Smart LIKES Cousins. I think he cares about Cousins. I never got that vibe from Westphal. He just seemed to tired / old to want to put up with the pouting. At least that's how I felt about it at the time. Westphal was never going to be around here long term. Smart, if things go perfect (and they already haven't) could be around here for a LONG time. He has much more invested in Cousins success.

I posted it at #127 on this thread with a link to the article.

It's by Amick. But obviously the source isn't cuz himself.
Thanks.

"The Kings had been strongly advising the volatile Cousins to begin seeing a mental health counselor, but a person with knowledge of the situation said he refused to do so. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the matter."

So I have spent 12 years post high school to being relegated to being called a mental health counselor? Everybody better get over their fear of even mentioning mental problems in anything but a derogatory manner or people like Cousins and many others, of course, will stay away. Was he told to see a social worker or what? I'm angry because this is personal to me. I guess I should get over this idea that what I do is voodoo and can be done with anyone who tacks the label "mental health counselor" onto their name.

Otherwise the article seemed to show that some of the players supported him in the sense they wanted him to succeed. He may be a cancer to some but not all. It also mentioned his time at Wal Mart that was on his own time shopping and not a team sponsored event unless I misunderstood.

Amick got his info from a source familiar with the situation. Whoopty doo.

Sorry, folks. This is getting to the level of a joke where the final laugh will be when Cousins leaves, gets on a team with solid owners and a solid coach and he laughs himself to the way of an NBA championship.

Cousins should spend his money and see a psychiatrist. Someone who is beholden to no one but Cousins. Not a social worker, a counselor, a psychologist, an anger management specialist (what a racket) but someone with the skill to differentiate the multiple causes of what might cause what is going on. I'm disgusted.

By the way I notice Johnson is starting at PF. Has anyone else noticed how the smack talkers steer clear of Mr. Black Belt MMA fighter JJ? JJ is pretty bully proof.

Give and take my man. Give and take. Maybe if we had better outside shooters on the floor there wouldn't be as much of a need for rebounding.

Hardly.

The biggest thing we don't do is DEFENSIVE rebound, which kills us on the defensive side of the ball, not offensive.

You are alreayd a bad reboudning team (24th in NBA in differential). Then you take any potential advantages you might accidentally have -- Reke at PG, JJ at SF etc. and pee them away to play guys up a position...its an organizational thing. And when you are esssentially the new perennial losers of the entire NBA you should be taking a long hard look at all your "organizational things".

I love getting you all wound up!

Every mention of Cousins future in the press and among other fans features the phrase "I think he would excel on the right team and right organization." This normally involves a team with veteran leadership and a franchise with an atmosphere that says they know what they're doing and a commitment to winning basketball.

My problem is that the Kings are neither of these things and make no attempt to be those things. As immature as Cousins is, ulitamitely he is a premier basketball talent at a position that is currently thin on talent. If you are a franchise and you have that sort of player then you do what it takes to make it happen. The Kings don't do what it takes and if Cousins burns out here and is traded then Cousins won't be blameless, but the big losers will be the Kings and they won't be able to blame Cousins. All the Cousins slandering old folks need to realize this.

This looks more likely inevitable as time passes by.

First, it was true on Tyreke Evans.

Now, it is on Cousins.
