Alexey Shved

Obviously early but looking forward into how this team might progress and more specifically, if Tyreke proves to be someone we can build around, we need to think about what pieces we should target to compliment him. I came across Shved when looking into mock drafts for next year (i know nothing about him except for the bios on draftexpress, etc.) but apparently he's 6'5, his strenghts are his ballhandling, passing, courtvision, athleticism, shooting and defense.. he is seen as a pure point even at his height.. he is supposedly very raw at this point though but they say that in terms of talent he would be at the top of the college class.. he is currently being projected at the top of the second round (but obviously projections in november have little to do with reality).. definitely sounds intriguing to me.. if we had a 6'5" true point who could shoot, and play some defense alongside 6'6" evans who also shows a knack for D we would be quite a difficult backcourt to match up with.. if any of our international members have some insight into his game it would be much appreciated.

Another case of a European wunderkind who was discovered during like four or five years ago--when he was around 16 or 17, and people prematurely said height+passing+sound for his age and pegged him as a lottery pick. He's really suffering on two levels, both of which are tied together, and which might undermine his career--1) lack of weight (6'5" 161) and 2) injury proneness (he's only played 12 games the past three years). People are still banking on his potential, but fact of the matter is 6'5" combo guards are getting more and more common to find in the league, and I don't think he'll ever get through those two hurdles. He's a type who will eventually find himself buried in the mid-2nd round, and if we find ourselves in that position we should take a gamble. But only then.

Dayumm. I thought I was scrawny at 6'2 165. You could probably lay this dude out by sneezing at him.

Yeah, you beat me to it. He's someone you might take a gamble on in the second round, and then send him to the Biggest Gainer. Personally, I believe that there are better choices than him out there, and better needs also. The last thing the Kings need when their trying to change their image from marshmellow to nails, is a fragile 6'4" toothpick..

He might be a fine player. The Kings will probably be looking for the best big man available in the draft next year. I could see taking a flyer on Shved in the second round maybe.

I am very busy now at work but just some observations:

1. Shved now is about 185 lb, not 161 lb. Still skinny but not that skinny :).
2. He had an injury but he is not that injury prone. The reason he played only 12 games is CSKA. It is a very strong club that relies on NBA-level veterans. As a high school kid he played in Superliga A (it is like a second division) and it is a pretty tough competition anyway.
3. He is really athletic. I think he is like Kirilenko athletic. The Russians are famous for their speed and explosiveness. I guess they just have it in their blood.
4. He partially lost his NBA luster because of CSKA "games". They know that NBA scouts are high on him. I think they have been intentionally hiding him - no first team games, no desire to loan him to smaller clubs etc.

So, I guess some of you have wrong sources.

However, having said all that, I do not think that we should draft him (second round is ok I guess). He is more a FIBA finesse player despite his Carl Lewis athleticism.
