After focusing on such a great NFL season, I think I am sick of the NBA

I have followed the NFL this year more closely than ever before (due to being in a pick em betting pool) and now going back to watching the NBA just seems lacking. The stagnation and dominance of big market teams is a huge turn off. It seems like you will never get these great stories to follow of the dark horse team pulling through like in the NFL with Denver, San Francisco, Houston, and others.

I love my Kings but watching them not be any part of anything resembling a major free agency acquisition for years because of their small market status is grinding on me.

The lock out period has not helped any of this.

Anyone have any cure for the NBA burnout blues?
 
Watch the TWolves and Clippers play exciting ball.

Otherwise, its the s.o.s. like you imply. There's a reason the NFL stomps the NBA in attention and revenue.

I think it's really simple. If you love the team, you'll watch it regardless of whether it excites you or not. You'll go through 10 frustrating games just to watch us get a win over the Lakers. If it's so hard for you to watch the NBA, don't.
 
I kinda feel the same way only about the NHL now. I only started watching hockey again because of the lockout.. And its hard to get back into the NBA and feel the same passion i felt in the last 15 years watching the kings.

I'm sick of our coach still, was sick of him all last season. Im kinda annoyed by the freeagent signings and the Maloofs breaking their promises.. I meen you cant tell me they couldnt of made some better trades with that caproom to get us better players then Hayes and Outlaw?... I meen they arent bad players but my expectations were way higher from what the Maloofs and Petrie led me to believe..

We have four bigs and not 1 can block a shot...? Our truest PGs are a Rookie Freddette and Thomas. Evans is going to get away with the same over-dribbling, stagnanting offense bull he did for the last two years and i've come to realize its not going to produce winning bball.

Thompson still whines like a damn baby after every call. Blehhh .. I dont usually post negative posts but i had to get this out. The one move i do like is Keith Smarts addition. I wouldnt be upset if he was promoted to head coach untill we find a real one.
 
I dunno...I was burned out from the lockout talk, didn't have any vibes. But now, I feel energized and ready to start watching basketball again, Kings and otherwise. Granted, Fantasy Basketball is a big reason for that, but it still works and it's still made me a more complete NBA fan instead of just a Laker-hater/Kings fan. I couldn't care less about the NFL.

I think if your just a casual fan, and are totally team oriented, then you might have a problem. In my case, I just love the game of basketball. If the Kings weren't here, I'd still be watching some team. I was a Warrior fan until the Kings arrived. I watch a ton of college basketball. So if your a fan of the game, then this other stuff, while annoying, and at times frustrating, isn't really all that important. I played baseball as a profession. Why baseball over basketball? Well, I was a much better baseball player, and I equally loved the game. Strangely, because I played baseball, I seem to have less patience with the team that I follow.

I think in the end, its all about expectations. If your looking for a championship team, then it could be one long frustrating journey. I hope for, but don't expect to see a championship team. Not because I'm being negative, but because I'm being realistic. Basketball is a game defined by great individual players. And the facts are, that there's just a limited amount of those players, and that you probably need at least two of them to win a championship. So the odds are long. Not so in football and baseball. Great individual players are still needed, but one of two of them can't make the same impact that they can in basketball.

Anyway, I'm rambling on here. Bottom line is, if you really love the game of basketball, you'll always remain a fan. If not, well enjoy whatever sport you follow. I'm not a big fan of cricket though. To violent for me....
 
I watch every major sport so its always a balancing act for me. I'm excited to see the Kings play this year and keep growing but its also tempered a bit by the stadium issues. The lockout hasn't really affected my interest one way or the other.

I started watching football over the lockout too and I have to agree. It's a lot funner to watch then I thought and I like how it requires more of a team effort to win the game. It's not just about one or two really good guys on the team. I also love the bigger stress on strategy in football. However, that's not going to stop me from watching and cheering for the Sacramento Kings this year. One reason is that I feel much more connected to the Kings as a local team than the 49ers all the way in SF. Also, like many others on here, I am a huge basketball enthusiast. So im going to continue to watch Kings basketball but ill also be following the NFL as well.
 
Basketball is not my favorite sport and NBA is not my favorite league. I like playing it more than following or watching. I am 10x more a baseball fan and 2x more a hockey, football and soccer fan. Nevertheless, I still like watching basketball and I am a huge supporter of the Kings because it is a true local team and basically the face of the city. I watch almost every game and attend 3-5 games a year.

I love the game of basketball and that's why most of the NBA is hard for me to watch.

The NBA rules/culture have worked against the game, because the NBA doesn't sell itself as good basketball but as a vehicle for superstars. Last year, I was expecting much better basketball out of the Heat then what we got. It's more beneficial to force fouls and barrel through the lane in the NBA, so good basketball isn't necessary. The Heat look good in sportscenter snippets, but watching them for a whole game and you see a lot of ugly ball.

The Kings being one of the ugliest teams to watch doesn't help this either.

Good basketball and good soccer are really fluid and enjoyable to watch, but the NBA has priorities that go against fluid, beautiful basketball. As long as it can provide some highlights, the league doesn't care if the other 45 minutes of game footage is of a low level. If I want to see more interesting and entertaining ball, I have to watch college or foreign leagues.
 
I agree in that my excitement has diminished slightly. I had a huge spike in excitement when the lockout ended, but I feel like the talent in matchups isn't where it used to be. I'm sure a lot of this has to do with how poorly the Kings are doing right now, since they are the favorite teams of 99% of us.

The NFL was cool this year in that you never really know who is going to win. I expected the Kings to lose every single night. But the basketball culture, players, and the game is forever my favorite.
 
I have loved basketball since 1963. I have loved the Sacramento Kings since the day they arrived in town. I expect there to be ups and downs. It's like rooting for your high school team even when they're one small step above horrible for one simple reason: they're your team.

I also love the San Francisco 49ers and have followed them faithfully since the early 70s.

For me it's not a matter of choosing between the NBA and the NFL. It would be impossible, like being forced to choose between my two incredibly wonderful little princesses (my granddaughters).

Luckily for me, my daughter and son-in-law share the passions for both sports, even though they differ greatly on which NFL teams to support.

We are all, however, KINGS fans and always will be. I will not be disappointed because I didn't really have any expectations other than to get past the whole stupid lockout and get back to the game.

Color me homer with my purple and black tinted glasses, but I LOVE THIS TEAM and I LOVE THIS GAME!
