i guess a coaching search is a lot easier when the best coach available isn't someone you fired the previous year. took houston all of 2 seconds. and rightfully so.

Bonzi is happy!

HOUSTON -- Guard Bonzi Wells, who mysteriously left the Houston Rockets team with five games left in the regular season, said Tuesday he would like to return to the team.

Wells told Houston television station KRIV that while he thought he was the missing link for the team that then-coach Jeff Van Gundy didn't think he fit in.

"He told me that I could ask to be waived and I told him I didn't want to be anywhere else. I hated the way it ended because I really started to appreciate him," Wells said.

Van Gundy, who was fired as the Rockets coach on Friday, said, "Perception and reality are often very different. I never thought it was personal between Bonzi and I."

Wells thinks the anticipated hiring of Rick Adelman as the Rockets coach is a good sign for Wells. Van Gundy agreed it could be a plus for Wells, who played for Adelman in Sacramento.

"I thought it was like God sent him here for me. Rick Adelman is a great coach," Wells said. "He's the best coach I have ever had. He really knows how to relate to his players. He does a great job of letting guys be themselves."

Wells signed a two-year contract before last season with an opt-out clause after the first year. The contract is valued at about $4.4 million.

"I have a decision to make and so do they. I wanted to be here even if Jeff Van Gundy was going to be here," Wells said.

Hey, T-Mac might make it to the 2nd round now

They kind of side stepped there with the personnel they have. Not sure anyone could've done better that what JVG just pulled off. Only exception being the addition of Bonzi. Only problem is the lack of defense that will offset this new addition.

Adelman will be good for this team but the real problem Houston has is keeping T-Mac and McGrady healthy. They won 52 games last year so the expectations are high and if Yao has another year of playing under 50 games and T-Macs back acts up like it usually does it could be problems.

Houston was lucky to get the Mutumbo of old to fill in for Yao during his absence but how much more does a 41 y/o guy have in the tank??

I also don't see the strong leader that Adelman usually has on a roster that brings the team together(Maybe Battier) as McGrady will be given the leeway to do whatever he wants whenever he wants and this may cause some problems.

Rockets got a two fer, not only one of the best coaches in the game, but he came with a major player attached as well (Bonzi). Now they taken care of the C, SF, OG and 6th man positions, and if necessary Rick is just the guy to get something out of Juwan. If necessary. But they really have to do something about the PG position if they are going to make serious noise. Rafer is just awful, and probably just about as far from anything Rick looks for in a PG as you could possibly be. Wonder if they can get Mike James back from Minny after his bad year? Although considering that they wanted him back last season, and he decided to go elsewhere, maybe they no longer have an interest.

Their PF depth is god awful as well. Juwan Howard, Chuck Hayes and Ryan Bowen. Any way we can pawn off KT on them???

Boy if we could just reverse the Rafer trade and send him to Minny for Mike James. Kevin McHale would be stupid enough to do that too.

Either that or we need to go hard after Mo Williams and pray that he accepts the MLE. There are also huge rumors that Steve Francis will get bought out in NYC and if he does, he's already said that he'd sign with Houston ASAP. The guy looks like he's going to cry every time someone mentions houston. He's a crappy point guard, but he'd be a phenomenal third scorer and hell maybe Adelman could do something with him.

Ryan Bowen got cut last year. But no, we don't need KT. We have a cheaper more effective version in Chuck Hayes. But yes PF depth is a huge issue. But the Kings aren't exactly stellar there either so no trade possibilities there.
