Aaron Brooks - Released.

Good riddance. Bad guy. Bad teammate. Bad basketball player.

No, he's actually a pretty good player, this was just the absolute worst fit for him, he's a scoring pg, and we already had IT, Evans, Jimmer, and Thornton all being shoot first guards. Our front office is mind boggling, and i'll take the "bad guy" comment as a joke.

Wait what? Your assessment of people really puzzles me at times.

Yep, it's all true. Trust me I know from personal experience. The only thing I might be incorrect on is the bad basketball player part. He can be a decent player but only in the right system.

As is the case with majority of role players and of star players. Go look at Deron Williams numbers post-Sloan and tell me he wasn't a system player. He went from arguably the best PG in the NBA to somewhere to 6 or 7th in PG rankings.

Our problem is that we don't have a system. We can't go look for complimentary skill-sets, because we don't know who or what we are supposed to be complimenting yet.

If we get through this just retaining Reke and Cousins and no more Maloofs and I'll be pleased as hell. Everything else can be re-assembled with owners who want to win. Our sense of how hard it is to assemble a winning team has been severely warped by ****ty ownership. If you have owners willing to spend and create a winning atmosphere, you can attract free agents. We've been conflating "small market" with "bad owners" as the reason we don't get free agents. And don't tell me Petrie hasn't been handcuffed as well.

I assume that means his player option for next year is null, right?

I assume that whats left on his contract for this season still counts against our cap, and that we'll have to pay him. His contract for next year was a player option if I remember correctly, so it would have to be his decision to terminate that extra year. Which he possibly did in order to be available for another team to pick him up this season. I believe thursday is the deadline for waiving players and the player still being eligible to play in the playoffs.

Appreciate the accuracy but, from my point of view, I'm seeing that as a difference without a distinction.

Depends how much you care about the CBA.

With a waiver, as previously reported, Brooks would be able to have any other team assume waivers (which rarely happens). The new team would assume Brooks contract, player option and all, and the Kings would have him be on the books for half? (I think? Not sure) of the remaining contract, which would include the player option.

Assuming he clears waivers, which almost everyone does, then he would be free to sign with any team. We would be on the hook for his player option in the full amount.

With a buyout, the player usually agrees to a buyout of his contract (including the player option) for slightly less than the full amount. Let's call it 3M instead of 3.4M. I believe the Kings have the option of spreading that buyout amount over 2 years instead of just one for cap purpose. Again, I could be wrong. This is all from what I can remember from the CBA. But there are distinctions and may or may not have ramifications later on.

IMO, a buyout is preferred over straight waivers because almost no one is ever cleared off waivers. Buyout gives us a little more cap space and flexibility. It's a slight but distinct move that usually comes from a front office that has it's crap together. Needless to say, it's spooked me the hell out that we did it. By now, I just assume Petrie sends a telegram to Brooks' residence and asks him to pack his bags.

Hooray !!!!!!!

Glad Brooks is gone, didn't seem like he wanted to be a King anyway.

I can't blame him if that's how he was feeling.

With that said, we're better off w/o him anyways. Never should have signed him in the first place. But, surprise surprise - we've been saying that alot about Petrie's moves the last half decade.

I could go on but we all know the moves and resume, no need to review.

Get something for him? Include him in some sort of deal, for anything at all? Even a cheap SF would have been ideal. Nope.

More bold, innovating moves by our GM.

Petrie's long coveted Brooks, and maybe decided to grab him to fulfill whatever weird undersized scoring fetish he has, regardless of whether the fit was right or not. It's like a grown up buying Beanie Babies now because they couldn't afford them when the craze happened. Petrie probably just wanted a chance to play with Brooks like a Beanie Baby.

:p

My uncle bought a red Corvette when he was in his late 50s because he's always wanted a red corvette when he was younger. He gave it up within 2 months because of impracticality/cost/he felt ridiculous.

A Corvette I can understand. But an Alpha Romero is quite another thing!

The Kings are the absolute worst fit for everyone. This team needs to be cleansed and injected with money.

This is just another money-saving move by the Maloofs so that Houston pays the remainder of Brooks' contract.

Oh, Krunker, but nobody wanted him, especially Smart. It was a dumb signing and a clumsy parting.

You'll get over it!

This response has no bearing on what it was responding to.

Reminds me of those autistic gangsters who just blurt out "comebacks" that sound as if they might mean something, until you actually think about it, and then they don't.

Ah, but it sounds like your uncle grabbed a newer corvette. It's not like Petrie went out and grabbed the hot new 6'0" scoring point guard once he was done lusting after Brooks; he went after the 1983 Corvette with ripped seats and a bad tranny, all because back in '83 it probably looked fantastic.
