a little juicy rumor

rumor has it that if and when derek anderson gets released by the trailblazers the kings will try to get as a backup to peja.i dont know his size but i know that he can play.and u gotta think darius is gonna be used in a sign and trade somehow( i heard that from monty)

I don't think Barnes and Anderson would be mutually exclusive, not like either comes with a heavy pricetag. Could bring some toughness and something other than a midrange jumper. Not a bad cheap pickup. What's the source of this rumor?

I've always liked Derek Anderson. I remember him best as part of that Cavs team with four rookies (Anderson, Cedric Henderson, Brevin Knight and Zydrunas Ilgauskas). Big Z was drafted the year before but didn't play because the beginnings of his foot problems caused him to have season ending surgery.

That team was a lot of fun and Anderson was a big contributor, showing no signs of the knee problems that hampered him in college. I was hoping the Kings would draft him but Petrie opted for Olivier Saint-Jean aka TAW.

That said, I don't want today's version of DA. I don't know how many times, but he has torn up his knees again in the NBA. I would much rather see SG minutes go to the kids, and I can't see Anderson doing a good job as a PG or SF. Then again, if this rumor is coming from that Monty guy, then I can't put much stock in it anyway.

The day word of the Bobby Jackson/Bonzi trade hit I periodically checked in on 1140 against my better judgement. It was Monty I believe, who suggested that the deal was made to get the Kings capspace for next offseason. Really? Trading two ending contracts for one ending contract of equal salary opens up more caproom how exactly? How do any of the guys on that radio station keep their jobs year after year?

Yeah, what a dumb statement to make! I am sure it had nothing to do with the fact that we were uncertain at the SG and Bonzi is a very talented player. :p

Derek Anderson is going to sign here, in Sacramento? That's probably not going to happen and here is why: He was moved to a reserve role in Portland, and guess behind whom?

Yep, that's right. Bonzi Wells.

At the time he was the starting 2, and Bonzi was at the 3. Bonzi felt more comfortable at the 2, and wanted back there, so Anderson was forced to a bench role. Wasn't too happy about, though he did try to make the best of it. Still he made it public he wouldn't mind being elsewhere. If I remember correctly, he said he didn't mind being a 6th man if they were contending for a championship, but felt he still had game left and wanted to play while he still could. Maybe his feelings have changed since then, but somehow with the limited minutes he would get, I don’t see him signing here.

Derek Anderson is a 6'4"/6'5" undersized 2 who can play a little 1, he is NOT a SF. Well, except for a team that plays Corliss at center. He always had good all around skills and loves to run and break people down, but his body is giving out on him, and the one thing he never could really do was shoot. Solid defender, but not a difference maker.

We could bring him in as Bobby's replacement, but he'd cost a lot and blow our MLE, and that's absolutely the end of the kids' minutes.

Monty is a sports talk show host here in Sac, 1140 AM, KTHK.

This guy is an idiot. I have no idea how he got his own show, but I am not listening. He is a loudmouth moron. Wasn't he a part of the "insiders"? God that show killed me. It was like a bunch of bandwagon fans who had no idea of the history of the team, or the current players that critiqued us.

Monty is load of crap. I also heard him talk about how the Kings made the Bonzi trade to free up salary next year. I guess he didn't do his homework to realize that we're trading 2 expiring contracts ($3 mil +$5 mil) for another expiring contract ($8 mil). Monty also made the remarks that Bobby is better than Bonzi (and therefore Petrie lost his mind). Well, Bobby might be better but I guess it never occurred to him that we need to get taller to guard the likes of Kobe, Tracy, and all the 6-7 and 6-8 off guards in the league.

It's terrible that people don't do their homework. It's even more shameful that he can top off his mouth everynight. The Sacramento airwave really deserves much better than this kind of absolute garbage. The Saturday Insider was bad...but his show 'til midnight is abominable and deplorable.

Wake up KHTK...we don't need an idiot to insult the intelligence of Kings fans.

Maybe Bobby was better than Bonzi at his 4 month span replacing Bibby, but IMO we've been unloading guys of late just as the tanks were hitting empty. Christie, Vlade, Webber and possibly Bobby Jacks now. No position in the league fades as quickly as a point guard who loses a step and Bobby is about due.

I wouldn't like Anderson any more than our young'ens. I keep thinking our big rumor is gonna come out of Chicago. I'm hoping, anyhow.

I'd like to make a minor correction to your comment above...

Wake up KHTK...we don't need ANOTHER idiot to insult the intelligence of Kings fans.

;)

I don't think D.A. will come here. I don't think they want him. They have to start to develope Martin and Garcia.
