A controversial article on Casspi:

Tired legs. You could totally see it. Same could be said about Rekes FT's.

Oh yeah, no doubt. But he shouldn't be wondering why he isn't playing with a pee poor showing like he turned in. If he wasn't scoring, he wasn't contributing. And he wasn't scoring.

I think we should not pay much attention to this article.

Haaretz.com is ..... let's say, not a very serious, diaspora-level source. I am half-Ashkenazi and I know that Jewish mass media can be hysterical and 'inventive'.

Jesus Christ! That was one of the worst written articles I have ever read. Sentencing was horrible. Wording was horrible.

xD israeli kingsfans? all the israeli people like me here beacuse they want to see what kingsfans think about casspi

Omri averaged 10 pts and 4.5 rebs carrying the weight of the entire country of Israel on his back in his young rookie season. Not too bad for a 21 year old kid. He actually looked like he rebounded from his post All-Star game slump in the month of April, his scoring picked up and so did his hustle. So, heading into next season both Omri, Israel, and Kings fans have to feel pretty darn good and look forward to what he can and will bring next season and beyond.

Let teams send offers, he's under contract, so they can all pee off.

Omri's shot fell off, was that from being tired, or from being unhappy with his role?? We won't know that for sure, only he does.

He seems to want to be a part of the team in general.

And that last quote...Omri's english is a little broken at times. He could have meant I'm ready for a bigger "role" on this team, and it came out as I am ready for a bigger team. What is a bigger team anyway?? They all have roughly the same amount of players. If he means a currently higher profile team, he will be firmly planted on the bench and playing about the same amount of minutes he did the second half of the season.

Jesus Christ! That was one of the worst written articles I have ever read. Sentencing was horrible. Wording was horrible.
Well, here comes another one :)...i'm sorry in advance for my grammer, but here's a rough translation of the article published today in nrg.co.il:

http://www.nrg.co.il/online/3/ART2/095/037.html

By Eran Soroka(a more respected reporter than who ever it is the haaretz reporter):

Casspi: next season I'll need to comeback as a
more active, more powerfull and more unique
player.

Omri Casspi just finished a boot camp that's called an NBA
season with 77 games and 1931 minutes, one moment before
clearing his head in Costa-rica, he his grateful for the last 6 months
and starting to look towards the future, his father Shimon summarize
it: "more points, less points, it doesn't matter, in the bottom line
what's important is that he's a legitimate player in the NBA.

While packing his equipment after his last game of the current season, in
the Stapless center locker room, Omri Casspi sounds like a soldier one
second after finishing his boot camp.
Sacramento just lost to the Lakers 100:106, the 11th loss out of the last
12 games, but nothing, not even a poor 2 out of 11 shooting night can
spoil Casspi's good mood.

"I'm the happiest and most joyful guy in the world", Cassi says, while you
can spot his huge smile from the distance of about 10 time zones.
"Honestly, if i would call you(the reporter) last summer and i would tell you
that this season i will manage to have stats of 10.5 and 4.5 per game, you
would say, sure Omri, sure...and you would think i'm crazy, and to be
honest, i would think i'm crazy too.."

We won't argue with Casspi about 0.2 points, but here are his final
numbers: 10.3 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 44.6% from 2pt,
36.9% for 3pt, 67.2% from the line, including 75% in his last 120 shots.

The most meaningful number for him is probably the 77 games he
participated in, second in the team after Benu Udrih, another game he took
part at was the rookie allstar game which he was chosen by the ast'
coaches of the league.
His stats position him somewhere around the first 10 rookies this season,
with a potential to be selected to the rookies second starting line up, but
for Omri it isn't really the important aspect, that's why the word "dream" is
going to be the more used word in the following paragraphs.

"All my dreams have come true, a dreamy and incredible season, a very
special season, it's all i could dream of, i experienced great things and
i'm just grateful for everything i being too, just grateful, i'm really
happy for the support from the community in the US and in Israel".

Q: The last two months left you with a bitter taste?

A: "Naaaa, not really, forget about it, there are no words to describe
this season, i need to remind you it's my rookie season? it's a learning
and developing season, and i learned from everything about it, i think
the sky is the limit, and in the summer i'll work on my body and things i
need to improve, this season was just a dream coming true".

Last season Casspi wasn't in the national team's roster during the
European championship tournament and took some criticism for his choice,
in a retrospective look, it seems like the work the player made in the US
for the upcoming draft and in the summer league, prepared him the best as
it can for the long NBA season that included 1931 minutes and 74,000
kilometers of flights(46250 miles).

"He had to prepare himself physically and mentally to the NBA", says his
father Shimon Casspi, that he and his family also finished a long
season of trans-Atlantic flights.

"There are some people who didn't understood him, and that were angry,
but his choice proved herself, Omri brought great pride to Israel, to the
family and even to you reporters, and the most important thing is that he's
a legitimate player in the NBA, more points, less points, it's a function of
playing strategies and match-ups, in the bottom line? a legitimate player".

"This summer" says Omri in advance, "it's going to be different, this
summer is a national team summer and probably, although it's not decided
yet, i'll also play in the summer league(Shimon adds: according to his
contract he'll play, but they most likely will release him from some of
the games), anyway, i'll play in the national team and hopefully we'll
have a good tournament, i'm always my biggest critic, and i know which
parts of my game i need to improve and continue working on".

"There will be new players coming from the draft and it's time to make
more leaps forward in my game, i'm very excited toward the work in the
summer, it is very important".

Q: So, as your biggest critic, what do you need to improve?
A: "First of all, after 77 games it's time to rest, after that i'll need
to become stronger, gain about 9-10 pounds of muscles, Improve my ball
handling, polish some things in my shooting, post-up play and pretty much
every aspect of my game, like i tried to improve every year, anything in
my game can be improved, I'll need to comeback as a more active, more
powerful, more unique and more...everything".

The Kings recently extended coach Paul Westphal's contract with another
year, until 2012.
For the side viewer, it looks like the coach, that in the beginning of the
season was very patient with Omri and dedicated more attention to him in
order to improve the problematic aspects of his game, slightly forgot
Omri on the bench in the last two months of the season, his minutes
per game dropped to about 20, Father Shimon tells it's a little
disappointing, but nothing too serious like when the same thing happened
in Maccabi Tel Aviv:
"In the first 60 games, when Omri got the chance, he took it, after that,
some people said in order to play, you need to score, or maybe that the
coach wanted to shorten the rotation, and it's his decision".

Q: Extending the coach's contract is good for Omri?
A: "Sure, there's no reason why it shouldn't be".

Rookie contracts in the NBA are built as a 2-4 years contracts, the first
2 seasons are guaranteed, and in the upcoming summer the kings are
expected to announce Casspi's contract will be extended to the 3rd year,
and if everything goes well, next summer the 4th season option will be
also used.

"Westphal gave me so much" says Omri, "This coach taught me so many
things, i advanced greatly while i played under him and all i can do is
to thank him.
He made such an excellent work with me and the entire team, his rotation?
that's who he is and it's ok, you can be in the starting line-up and next
game not to play at all, this is the coach and those are his decisions,
i'm not looking only at the last month, in the entire
season he(Westphal) gave me so many tools and improved me greatly,
you know what it is like to get 25 minutes from your coach in your rookie season? in such a stage?"

Q: Ironically, it's the middle of April and you finished the season, all
your friends in Europe are still playing, "piece of cake" no?
A: "I'm flying to Costa Rica in friday, they can continue playing".

Q: Who will take the NBA championship?
A: Wow, what a question....Cleveland.

Yeah, this article pretty much confirms that the LAST article was a bunch of horse crap! Good to see Omri with so much fire, and I for one, cant wait until next season to see him grow as a player and even become more of a contributor to the Kings!

Who knows if the first article is true or not but if it is then it's goes back to what I always harp about -- being held accountable for your actions. There is no mystery why PW limited Casspi's minutes later on in the season. The reason was obvious. Casspi was absolutely terrible for about a month long stretch. He honestly looked as though he didn't even belong on an NBA court. He was forcing shots and hurting the team in the process while he tried to work himself out of his slump.

If he did indeed say the things written in the article then that is really disappointing. I believe that PW and the Kings would like nothing more than Casspi to be their small forward of the future and EARN 40 minutes a game. If he plays all the time like he did in the beginning of the year then he'll achieve that but if he continues to play like he did in his slump then he'll have a hard time playing in the NBA, let alone be a starting small forward.

EDIT: Just saw the 2nd article. He sounds much better in this one. Let's hope the first article was BS.

This is directly from him responding to questions so it's more credible.

The other article was written from a guy using the head that never see light. Not to mention it doesn't have any eyes either.

Ok, I read the Hebrew version of the first article, which is a bit longer than the English version, the writer for some reason is trying to transfer the message that because of Casspi's last two bad months, Sacramento are thinking of trading him, he quotes some unknown people and then comes this question:

http://www.haaretz.co.il/hasite/spages/1163188.html

In the summer, Casspi is planning to work with personal coach Joe Abunassar, participating in the summer league and playing for the national team, then he will return to Sacramento.

Q: There's any chance you will return only to move to your next stop?
A: Anything could happen, after gaining 1 year of experience, i think i'm able to play for any team, including the senior ones.

Two best parts of the article, IMO.

Remember seeing this on he's nbadraft.net report. Was a bit worried at first, but it didn't really show throughout most of the season. Don't know about now though....

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/omri-casspi

Check the end of the second last line to end of the Weaknesses section;

"Gets criticized for being a bit of a prima donna type. Will he be willing to be a team player on the NBA level or will the desire to be a star keep him from being a succesful contributor?"

I guess we'll see what happens. :)

maybe when he said "BIGGER TEAM" he meant... actually bigger... like our front line??? lol! j/k

I don't mind him wanting to be a star, as long as he's content with whatever his role is. Don't blame him for being upset about being benched, but as long as he works his butt off and does what he's asked to do, all the other stuff is not really relevant.

if he really did say that, bye bye c***pi...

I wrote the real quote above.

That stigma about him started when he was 16 and played for the junior team of Maccabi, he got to a few physical fights with the other "Star" of that team, Sean Daniel, and because of these fights, it was seemed like they are both prima donnas, when Casspi joined the pro team, it was clear that he wasn't the reason for these fights but rather the other guy, in other words, he was tagged as a prima donna when he was 16, and the scouts just kept passing this information without any real connection to reality.

I'll buy this one over the first one if for no other reason than this one consists largely of quotes from Omri, while the other one builds a pile of manure and then caps it with a single ambiguous Omri quote that is supposed to indicate dissatisfaction.

I think those ills will be cured to an extent next season, and we'll have a more predictable rotation, and whoever is left out is just left out. Hopefully Nocioni won't be in the picture anymore, and the small forward minutes will go to Garcia, Greene and Casspi, in whatever proportion is appropriate.

Will also depend on whom we draft. If we land Wall/Turner, these guys are going to lose minutes, though hopefully, we shall be active in the trade market then.

And much as I hope, I fear that we won't be rid of Noc soon. He might end up being the next KT (is probably fairly close already).

too much bs. they are taking a few phrases and spinning it the way they want. is there a full interview that can be read? omri seems like a team player.

I'm very much looking forward to a better Omri next year, and everyone understanding their role better in general.

When will we know if May's been released, together with Udoka etcetc?
