Man, kid has one good game in 2 years and he’s a triple double threat now. I want to be wrong. I hope I’m wrong. But you really think they just benched this triple double threat for the better part of two years out of spite and incompetence?

They’re incompetent. I refuse to believe he’s been showing out in practice and they’re just like “Ya, F that kid.”

Cheer up dude, tank lives on and the young guys played a lot and played well. If you cant enjoy this game and result, what's the point?

He didnt have 1 good game. If anything he was off. He was 0-6 shooting 3s. His good games will be when he hits those.

He had a average game for him with good minutes. Everything he did today he can easily repeat.

Nobody said he was the next Westbrook and going to average 30ppg. But he can easily average 12-15 8 and 8. Hes always beena. Great rebounding guard. Lets not act like I said something crazy

Huh, you do know who the Sacramento Kings are right? LOL. The point should be there is no reason to not play him. Or any of the young guys at this point. This is how you find out who a player is and how to proceed in building your team since literally just in terms of the cap you can kick the tires of 5-10 Carters, Cliffords, Cardwells, etc. for every one Zach LaVine. The Kings need to be looking under any and every rock they haven't turned over yet. That's how a team stands a chance of improving long term. They need intel on everyone that is a possible piece moving forward.

They're incompetent, but they couldn't possibly screw up a player evaluation? Let me the first to tell you, yes they can

It was a given he'd get minutes as soon as we got rid of players in front of him. Unfortunate in some ways it was Keon and we're stuck with Zach and to some extent DDR. Maybe there's a small chance Monk gets shipped still. There was never a hurry since we control him for two more years, if he can earn a spot now be happy. Still going to have to go a long way to get past the fact Monte picked him instead of someone that could contribute before we ripped the team he built to pieces.

I don't think he's showing out in practice but I also don't think a competent franchise would have him glued to the bench up until this point either.

It might sound weird but I think he's already at or close to Keon's level defensively. I'll need to see more of him against regular NBA players and not third stringers but he essentially averages the same amount of steals as Keon while being able to stay in front of his man much better. He's a better ball handler and facilitator. Much much worse shooter obviously. Curious to see how things go. I think he has a knack for getting to that line that needs to be unlocked. I just don't know if this franchise even cares since they clearly didn't care about the other guy with similar skills.

I hear people say that coaches and GMs may think Keon gambles too much and so it shows up in the counting stats (stocks) but not elsewhere. Of course his on/off splits show he was a winning player but I guess that doesn't impress them?

Either way I think it was just a problem of Monte stacking us with way too many players that slot into the 2 spot.

It will be funny/sad if somehow Devin winds up better than Keon knowing that the Warriors refused to take Devin and we refused to deal Keon in a Kuminga deal.

Do they ever prioritize defense first players?

He’s more of a defend with your chest defender as opposed to Keon’s gambling style. Hes much stronger and faster so he can guard a wider range of players imo. Only one way to find out

The thing to go back to is the type of defenders they are. Keon plays with his hands, Devin his chest. Can't remember seeing a true lockdown defender that didn't play with his chest. The potential to be a beast on defense is there with Carter.

I'd rather risk that happening over Russ/ddr/lavine lead lineups doing the same to close the year.
Those guys are the ones losing the games though. We almost got the win with the kids. I guarantee Zach would have chucked us to down 8.

Either way Russ and DDR are gone by the offseason and that's fine if we can't trade them. I'm more bummed that we're stuck with another year of Zach. Yes it was always likely but I never thought I could hate a Kings player that much that didn't try to get us moved to Seattle.

Funny how two years ago on this very message board I kept reading about how Davion Mitchell playing with his chest meant he was never going to be anything more than a bit player in the NBA because all he did was stop dribble penetration while Keon Ellis's penchant for hunting steals and blocks made him a defensive super weapon. I call this the "new toy" factor. Or maybe the "we have no idea what we want after all" factor.

For whatever it's worth Keon's style seems to appeal to fans more. But that wouldn't explain why we got so little for Davion.

My issue with Davion was that he was a poor off ball defender, something he admitted himself.

Incompetence? Yeah. Spite, not so much. Realistically, I don't think he's THAT guy, but he can fill a stat sheet. He missed a couple of open shooters on some of his drives, and if Domas isn't around, he'll gobble up more boards. Like I said, it's not THAT unrealistic. I can see a homeless man's Russell Westbrook there.

So far they only have with Cardwell. Perimeter defense has been largely ignored.
we will only know if they "prioritize him", if he has a regular playing time role when they're not tanking. Remember what happened with Keon. We all assumed they would, once he was converted to a full contract. No such luck

Because we have made a habit of sitting players on the bench for a year and then trying to trade them.
Sure but if GMs are smarter than everyone else.

Davion was really inexplicable no matter which side of the coach/GM pulling strings side you fall on. I just don't get why we handled him at all how we did. Oh well its over as all the people responsible are gone.

Hopefully by the time we've decided we aren't tanking he has learned to play offense. But otherwise I'd hope we keep him around at a discount for when we desperately need a stop.
