49ers v Seahawks

Here's my emoticon recap for yesterday's game:

 - Offensive line. People were wondering, what's wrong with Frank Gore? Does Alex Smith really suck? Why has the offense been bad all season? Then this game happened and it pretty much shoved the entire offensive line to the top of the list. Penalties, confused blocking assignments and overall poopiness were the biggest factor in the loss.

 - Darrell Jackson. Fired up to play his old team that gave up on him? Umm... not really. He made a couple catches, but on several plays seemed to be lazy and uninterested, just standing around while something was happening right next to him.

:) - Frank Gore. Despite two early fumbles that helped set the tone for the awfulness of the game (one of which the 49ers luckily recovered deep in their own territory), Gore has several good runs. Other than the long TD in the Rams game he hasn't been able to get many gains of more than 3 or 4 yards. Yesterday he had several nice plays that keeps me optimistic for the rest of the season.

:D - Special Teams. Recovered an onside kick and blocked a punt in the same game. Nedney, Lee, Lewis, Lewis. Big plays from this group will make a difference in some Niner wins.

Emoticon recap (continued - not allowed more than 4 images in a single post)

:( - Trent Dilfer. Not so good, Al. Apparently he'll be playing at least next week against the Ravens. Hopefully a week of reps as the starter will help him get more in synch with the offense.

 - #59 for the Seahawks (don't remember his name ;)). Talk about a lame sack celebration. If the point of his "dance" wasn't stupid enough, he looked like Elaine Benes dancing with her arms stuck behind her head after having the skill to run unblocked towards the quarterback and record a few sacks. Maybe I'm not so sad he's not on the 49ers anymore.

 - Team. Was hoping for a win obviously, but there are always games where everything falls apart. We'll see if they can ignore this blowout like they ignored the Chiefs and Bears games last year.

Nice recap. At least we didn't come into the season with incredibly high expectations.

:p

You know what made the day even better? I didn't get to my seats until about the 2nd quarter because traffic was awesome. So, having missed the whole 1st quarter, I have NO idea why I'm seeing #12 on the field. Being that my dad is a Bears fan, we were listening to the end of their butt kicking instead of the start of the Niners game while trying to get parked and inside Monster. At least it was a beautiful day in San Francisco and the Latino Heritage halftime festivities were cool. The loudest cheer of the day might have been for the security tackle of the idiot fan who ran across the field in the second half.

The Sac Bee blog for the 49ers says that Smith suffered a grade 3 separation and is out for Sunday's game. Best case scenario, he is back for the Giants game on 10/21. They may look to add another QB to the roster while Smith is out.

Dilfer has to look better next week.

Rust had alot to do with his play yesterday....but, Every time he would make a nice throw and the receiver would actually catch it it got called back for holding/tripping or whatever. That was just ridiculous and pee poor execution. They just couldn't get anything going.

Offensive line was plain and simply offensive to watch...imagine anyone having to play behind it.

Makes sense why Gore hasn't been able to run behind it and I'm betting because Smith's ability to move around and roll out has made the offensive line look better than it actually is.

Having someone immobile in there shows how bad we are.

Watching that mess was sickening.

I think Dilfer will play better next Sunday against the Ravens, he just needed to shake off 2 years of bench rust and adjust to the speed of the game.

 is for my inability to understand how our above average O-line from last year devolved into the JV squad of a Division III school. I have no idea how to fix our O-line.

Ya our rookie has been our best offensive linemen which is rather sad.

Everything on offense is terrible right now and I'm not sure Dilfer will play better, we have to face the Ravens, better defense than the Seahawks have.

Part of me hopes it is just Hostler being a poor coordinator. That would make it an easier fix than something that ran deeper.
