Well i said “behind the scenes” so of course we won’t have any evidence of this. Again, why does anyone need to lie on Devin Carter of all people? I’m not saying the Kings are some model organization but i just don’t see the whole conspiracy of “oh this is Mike Brown’s guy and everyone else secretly wants him to fail” making more sense than Carter likely just not being very good on top of all the smoke we’re hearing from practice sessions and all the other happenings.

How do they know he's not very good though? They haven't even given him a chance. lol. Maybe he's not but it's common sense a lottery pick might be someone they want to invest that time in rather than plopping out the all 30+ lineup they just did to win the game. Nope, this is yet again almost everyone in a decision making capacity being 3 stooges level. That's the problem with almost every single person Vivek has hired, they assume far too often and end up looking the way they do. Might not be a coincidence.

As someone who is philosophically opposed to tanking, this whole endeavor is a lose/lose as a consumer of basketball-as-entertainment. On one hand, I am strongly against the pro-tanking people getting to be rewarded/validated by the outcome of the draft. But, on the other hand, if they aren't rewarded, then not only will this whole season have been a waste of time, but it'll pretty much just lead to a repeat of this same BS next season.

Kayte had a good point earlier, that the fight to make up 20 points of the deficit was impressive but the incredible amount of energy that requires can leave players without a lot left in the (sorry to use this word) tank.

Haha. Yeah, that was a little bit of junk ball by DC. He went with a small ball lineup and played intense ball pressure defense. When you don't have legit defenders it's likely to burn out sooner than later. It looked like Zach might have gone on one of his heaters but he didn't really see the ball much after that. He'll be back to starting so maybe he can set the league on fire heading into the deadline.

"Tanking" if it's done with development in mind and youth building is totally honest and how teams stand a better chance of having assets of value moving forward. At this point going with the young guys might actually net more wins, haha. No, the Kings didn't come into this season trying to tank. Doug Christie desperately tried to win this game tonight. This is a cluster F leftover after a star trade demand and exit that yielded a Hail Mary stay relevant attempt and it's failing. There's still time to salvage something out of this season to build with but it's now ticking down. This franchise for those watching long enough has been through every single stage of inability in almost every facet and this makes 08-09 look genius by comparison.

If anything, this is what the league wants to see. A team at the bottom unintentionally losing games

I think fans just have accept that this is a transition year. Teams don’t generally go from competing for the playoffs to a full blown youth movement, especially when you have bigger contracts on the books. It’s essentially a one year transitional period that is not fun for anyone involved- players, coaches or fans. When the deadline comes, a piece or two maybe three gets moved and you have the beginning of a fresh start.

"Honest" is a matter of perspective, but I get where you're coming from. I just don't agree.

Are you completely in disgust with what the Kings are doing right now then? I mean, they are letting a player who wasn't even going to be in the league this season run their team to this result. It totally sounds like this franchise is running the tank game at a mastermind level doesn't it? The sad thing for us is they aren't. This is just them back to being THIS clueless. Or with the history we've all lived through it's safe to assume the likely possibility.

We shall see. We will know if the Kuminga stuff has legs pretty soon for sure.

Couple things here. First, I imagine it's a lot easier to hold this kind of philosophical position when you don't possess a rooting interest in any particular team, and therefore don't possess any reason to care about whether or not a particular team is able to stock the assets necessary to transform themselves from a losing team into a winning team. Top-tier talent doesn't just magically find its way onto a roster, after all; it must be acquired.

Second, this stance also kind of depends on your definition of "tanking." I see that word used frequently here, but KF.com posters seem to have rather different understandings of its meaning. If what you mean is that you're philosophically opposed to teams willfully losing games for the sake of draft positioning, than I would agree; that's bad form. But that's also not really what's happening with the Kings, is it?

From my vantage point, this team is just a very poorly-constructed, imbalanced mess. It's not a winning roster. They're not employing any particular strategy that suggests they're losing games willfully. They're just bad, and they won't find their way out of the basement until the roster is radically reimagined. And given that Sacramento is generally considered an NBA backwater, or "basketball hell" in the parlance of today's NBA players, the most prudent method for creating a more competitive future is through the draft. I tend to align with Shasta's recently-stated position:

If anything, this is what the league wants to see. A team at the bottom unintentionally losing games

The Kings are just a bad team, and bad teams typically get better by investing in young talent via the draft. I recognize that that's not satisfying for someone who consumes basketball-as-entertainment without a specific rooting interest, but the league is better when bad teams have an opportunity to become... not bad. What those franchises do with that opportunity is its own quandary, and some poorly-run franchises will perpetually struggle to find their way (the Kings among them). But still, as you've pointed out, if there were no draft lottery on which a losing franchise could pin some measure of hope and use to develop something that resembles a long-term plan, this cycle would not end.

Yeh I’m not convinced Kuminga helps us but if it’s Monk and a second rounder I won’t lose sleep over it. I just don’t get how that helps Golden State, seems like a fairly lateral move. Kuminga for Vucevic has a higher potential payoff imo.

This would be a compelling counterargument if it weren't for the fact that I've been anti-tank way longer than I've been not a Kings fan. One of those things is fairly recent, and the other is pretty much my entire sports fan existence.

It’s a flaw in the system that began as a well-intentioned catch-up mechanism but has become outdated due to market expansion and profit sharing between teams and players.

It used to be able to leverage players’ individual motivation to win in pursuit of a major payday.

Today it no longer sufficiently rewards winning, neither for players, who now receive life-changing salary deals before they are fully developed, nor for teams that operate as individual corporations and no longer have to prioritize winning above all else.

Giannis throws Russ to the ground, Schröder throws Giannis to the ground, refs do absolutely nothing
Westbrook would have made Draymond blush with the level of fouling and just dangerous fouls he was commiting out there he should be been fouled out before the 4th quarter where he was just mauling Giannis that was insane the refs did not call like 4-5 blatant fouls, Russ as he's age has become more like his former nemesis Pat Bev. Russ is going to injury someone sooner or later
