25 teams contacted Darko's agent (merged)

Does that mean the Kings were one of them?

Meanwhile, Magic power forward Darko Milicic's agent said Monday afternoon that the club had yet to make contact. Milicic is a restricted free agent, meaning Orlando can match any offer.

The Magic have told Milicic to bring back an offer.

"We have lots of options," said Marc Cornstein, Milicic's agent.

Cornstein said he has heard from "25 teams" since the green flag dropped on the free-agent courting period Sunday.

"There's a lot of interest," he said. "We've had some real offers to sign-and-trade deals . . . everything across the board."

Cornstein seemingly wondered if the Magic were truly committed to re-signing Milicic, a 7-foot power forward.

"We want Darko to go to a team that believes in him and makes him a focal point," he said. "If it's Orlando, great. If it's one of the other 29 teams, then that's fantastic, too."

With 25 of the 30 calling, one would hope. Assume Detroit was out....likely Portland as well (they are set up front), Orlando of course....leaves 25 of the 27 remainder. If Larry Brown still wields any pwoer in Philly, that might be the 4th team, leaving 25 of 26. We'd damn well better not be the 5th team. ;)

But with that many calling it also highlights just what a longshot it would be. There was maybe a chance for us back there a year and a half ago when he was dangling on the market, but now in an open bidding war, coming off of our ugliest season since the internet was still young...rough going.

Thinking best shot really might be Vlade, helping concince Darko that we'll use his skills correctly and Darko and Hawes can be the new Webb/Vlade. Of course we no longer have that coach, or that system, or that talent or....but, you know, same thing. ;)

Unless Vlade is still loyal to the Maloofs and Petrie I don't know if he can honestly recommend us since we're not exactly the same team we used to be. Adelman and Peja are both gone now. The only thing we can promise Darko is that he'll get starter's minutes and he'll have a big role on our team. We obviously can't promise him team success.

The Orlando Magic did not contact restricted free agent center Darko Milicic's representatives Sunday, possibly sending the message that they have no interest in re-signing the 7-footer from Serbia and Montenegro.
Milicic's camp is demanding a contract worth approximately $10 million a season and Orlando has no desire to pay that amount, according to an NBA source close to the negotiations.

We are in running for Milicic

The Bulls, Rockets, Grizzlies, Pacers and Kings lead the pack of teams that might be interested in Milicic.

The Bulls, Rockets, Grizzlies, Pacers and Kings lead the pack of teams that might be interested in Milicic. Chicago is in desperate need of a low-post scorer, but Milicic's lack of intensity might not make him a good fit with Scott Skiles. Houston could use another big, but it probably desires a player with more shooting range. Memphis appears to be setting its sights on Anderson Varejao.

Which leaves us and Indiana......

If I'm him, I'm picking Sactown over Indiana. But I'm not getting my hopes up in the least that we'll sign him, he'll want more than 6mil I'd guess. But this is the thing I like to hear, that we're at the very least attempting to get younger. I'd love if we could get Darko but I can't see it happening.

all we have is the MLE and it don't seem as if he is willing to accept that.
He might not have a choice.

Magic can't do sign and trade and there is only a couple of teams that have more than the MLE to offer. He will field a lot of MLE offers from a lot of teams, with possibility that we are one of those.

I still don't think we stand a lot of chance of getting him. Many more better situations out there.

That system wasn't Adelmans. It was basically Geoff Petrie all the way, that system will remain if Petrie says it will. He's the real Princeton boy, not Adelman.
