[NFL] 2025-2026 Thread

Sam Darnold winning a super bowl before the 49ers is absolutely hilarious.
Comes down to better drafting and talent evaluation. Seahawks smartly brought up solid to great DBs, in tandem with their pass rush......and there you have it....49ers neglect their secondary year in and year out.

A good front makes the secondary. The Niners could have Sauce Gardener, Darrelle Revis, Troy Polomalu, and Ed Reed running around in the secondary and our broken front would make them look bad.

I will never understand a head coach's aggressive nature of going for it on 4th down when a relatively sure 3 points is right there for his team's taking. I respect their desire to be so aggressive, but man...Payton and McVeigh deserved to lose.

2 different scenarios between Peyton and Mcvay. Peyton would have been up 10pts in the 1st half if he kicks the chippie when all signs were it would be a low scoring game especially with the blizzard forecasted.

Mcvay was down 4 with 4 mins left. He kicks a FG, there’s no guarantee he gets the ball back with any decent amount of clock left. That was pretty much proven right when the Hawks get a few first downs and punt with only 30 secs left. Shanny in the scenario in the Super Bowl decided to kick a FG in OT, putting the fate of their team on his D stopping Mahomes. We know how that worked out. And Rams gave up a lot of 3rd down plays to the Hawks, Mcvay made the right call imo

Yep, their success was not cuz of their secondary. Their Dline is elite. Emmanwori is their version of Kyle Hamilton playing that hybrid LB/safety role. And they also invested in their oline. What a novel concept, right Niners?

It also helps they had the biggest upgrade as OC going from awful Grubb to Kubiak. And somehow got a major upgrade at QB for 10 mil less a season than Geno. They’ve had less top 10 picks than Niners had over the last 5 years, but they almost always hit on their FRP and Niners didn’t

Thank god the Broncos went for it on 4th in the first half. That game would still be tied 10-10 right now if they kicked the FG. Neither offense was going anywhere once the weather set in.

Looks like the Rams found their version of Kyle Williams.

It wasn't once it was twice for McVeigh during the game I believe......unless within say 3 yards of the goal-line, I'd make it almost a rule to take 3 pts.
Shanahan does a great job with it - one of the best most conservative coaches in the NFL with FGs - perfect example - Campbell is the polar opposite. FGs and timeouts - coaches routinely abuse them.

The point is you want BOTH not one or the other......Looks at the Seahawks defense now - they're elite and will win the superbowl going away because they have both......

I'm not saying the Pats are going to win but your blind hate is showing so hard and making you look silly. The game will be decided by one score.

These modern coaches believe they are other worldly smarter than everyone that came before them. And they fall into the ego trap with their peers believing they always have to be aggressive no matter what. However, pragmatism and patience still have a place in the game.

The NBA and MLB coaches/managers fall into the same trap, relying too heavily on analytics that don’t factor in a large enough sample size of doing it the “old way” because they all coach the modern game the same exact way.

There’s no way the NFL can justify this based upon on any kind of merit. And I highly doubt 14 other more qualified QB candidates from the AFC (not counting Drake Maye) refused the invite.

If this doesn’t prove that the NFL is an entertainment league, first and foremost, versus a sports league — nothing does. And as far as entertainment leagues go, there’s not much separating the NFL from WWF wrestling anymore.

Drake Maye was looking downright shaky in the first half with the Denver pass rush. I discount second half because the weather was so bad. Seattle defense on par with Denver. Seattle might roll in this
