I would be concerned. His calling card is defense so he should be passable at the very least considering he'll be 23 and physically developed. If there are problems in relation to size or versatility that might be a bigger problem to do with the multi guard lineups which then becomes a very sticky situation overall.

Yeah, if anyone is going to be an exception to that rule, Davion is as good a bet as any. Sure, it's just G-League/Summer league talent, but dude absolutely BULLIED guards in the Cali Classic. That's exactly what we wanted to see from a dude we're expecting all-defensive awards from.

I have a question:
How do we try to get Vanderbilt who is a RFA?
We have no cap space to make an offer sheet? We do not have a TPE to take him in a sign & Trade?

We have the MLE, which goes up to 9.5 mil. I'd pay that for Vandy, but I doubt you have to go that high. Twolves are in cap hell already, just traded for a small-ball 4 and spent a 1st round pick on Jaden McDaniels who's affordable the next 3 seasons. There off-season moves indicate they're fine moving on.

Can you use a MLE to make an offer sheet to a RFA? I thought you could only use it on a UFA. I think Twolves would have to renounce the quality offer making him an UFA before we could use our MLE to sign him. Capt Fact can you verify?

Also if we guar Metu Jones sign Quetta our roster is at 18 you would have to cut 2 players to sign another player?

The MLE is cap space. Capable of spending up to 9.5 mil however you'd like.

In terms of the roster, you cut James, cut Jones and sign Queta to a 2-way.

I’m ok with your plan if Vandy is a UFA otherwise won’t work Please help Capt!

I had to go back to the CBA just to make sure. I had no recollection of the MLE being disallowed to make an offer sheet to an RFA. Looking through all of the relevant sections of the CBA turns up nothing. It does not appear that there is any prohibition against using the MLE to make an offer sheet to an RFA.

Probably just doesn't happen out of practicality. If a player is good enough for the MLE, the team with rights simply matches and sorts out later. Wouldn't mind doing a sign and trade giving up a less valuable 2nd (think the Kings still have a couple extra).

Everything that I have read says:
"The player can sign an offer sheet with a team that has room under the cap for the first-year salary in the contract"
"The team making the offer must have enough salary cap room for the offer sheet and must maintain that room until the offer sheet becomes official or the original team exercises the right of first refusal."

I read that to say the team making an offer sheet must have room "under the Cap" to make an offer sheet

Your reading too literal. MLE is under the cap in this instance, not that the team has to have available space below the cap.

OK You are right Capt
Larry Coon FAQ says

As with any contract offer, a team must have enough room -- either cap room or room provided by an exception -- for the offer sheet. It must maintain the necessary room from the time the offer sheet is signed until the time the new contract is in place or the player's prior team exercises its right of first refusal.

OK now that that is settled
Even after cutting James and Jones my calc is that for 16 players we would be approx 130m in total
salary, so an 8M offer sheet for Vanderbuilt puts us close to the Luxury tax

My proposal is :

Marc Stein: The Pelicans have expressed interest in Lauri Markkanen and hold a sizable trade exception ($17 million) to take the restricted free agent in on a contract he seeks, sources say. The Bulls, though, are said to want a first-round pick to facilitate. More: marcstein.substack.com

So if bulls want a 1st for Pels to take on Lauri Money using TPE
I would think pels would rather give up 1st and Hart for Buddy
Kings get a SF , 1st and save 10-12M Dollars

Cut James,Jones
Then we make 8M offer sheet for Vandy

We get Hart,Vandy and a 1st for Buddy -- I like it
Hart can play the 2 if one of our 4 rotation guards get injured, move Harkless up
Much more Balanced

Kings end up with:
Fox,Mitchell,Ramsey
Hali,TD
Barnes,Josh Hart,Harlkless,Woodard,King
Bagley,Vanderbuilt,Metu
Holmes,TT,Len,Queta

I still don't understand what's going on with these RFA's. Are they really gonna take a 1 year QO? Are we not involved with any of them?

I have to imagine we're in on some Buddy/Lauri/Hart 3-way trade type swap and that's why these guys haven't even seen a rumor of them linked anywhere for a MLE deal. Diallo and Vandy should also be signed at this point too.

it is odd we haven’t heard a peep on any of them.

as nice as the Warriors draft looks this year (at least in some people’s eyes), it cannot be understated how much they appear to have bungled the 2020 one. Wiseman is perpetually in their doghouse and every single Warrior fan on the internet apparently wants to get rid of him as soon as possible, Mannion already left the team to play in Italy, and Jessup got benched for Kyle Guy by the end of last night’s summer league game.
